Amy,

You must be from Newark!!! haha We were transferred out of Dallas and I MISS it big time. Great people, a town with a lot of class, world class shopping, top notch restaurants, I'd go back in a New York minute.

Careful dear, might get your wish and believe me, you can do a heck of a lot worse than Dallas. But then, there aren't a lot of people there using the oh so tired "puhleeze" so perhaps you are out of your element.

This is such a mean-spirited and totally useless thread.

xxx Aug 29th, 2000 11:03 AM

Lighten up, kimmy...it's either this or do some work.

kimmy Aug 29th, 2000 01:35 PM

Aw, shut up, stupid. You must be from one of these gawd awful cities.

???? Aug 29th, 2000 01:42 PM

Kimmi, please tell us all where you live so we can stay away. You log onto this thread solely to say it is mean, and then call someone "stupid?" Uh, whatever.

Got to agree with Amy on Texas. Spent some time there, too, and found the arrogance of the residents to be unbelievable. The nicest person I met was someone from Malaysia!

I agree with the poster who voted for 'any Florida city.' I think Florida is terribly overrated.

Okay . . . nobody has voted for my "worst" yet, so I'll be the first.

I vote for PHOENIX, ARIZONA. I had the misfortune of living there for 2 years, and thought it mirrored Hell beautifully.

This place is not fit for humans. Intense heat for over 6 months (and don't give me that "Dry Heat" crap), wildly violent and destructive Monsoons in the summer! Whoever decided to build a city here should've been sedated in a nice, soft, padded room somewhere.

And the city is completely lacking in character. It's basically identical subdivisions, and strip malls; very ugly and very monotonous.

The houses are built on top of each other, and are surrounded by high concrete walls. Hmmmmmmm . . . what a great idea! Let's surround all the yards with tons of concrete. It will get Fry-an-Egg-Hot during the day, maintain the heat all night and keep the area stifling, and will prevent all pleasant breezes from passing through the properties providing no relief! IT'S BRILLIANT!!

When I lived there, Arizona was among the highest in the country for high-school dropout rate . . . and it shows!

The residents are slow, both physically (never in a hurry for ANYTHING) and intellectually. But cut them some slack, because they've been heat-fried, too.

Phoenix is an "L.A. Wanna-be," but they just can't pull it off.

If you want to go to Arizona, skip Phoenix, and just head north. Northern Arizona is actually quite beautiful.

My worst places to live are:

Tuscon, Arizona--HOT, nothing to do, no culture, HOT!

Bakersfield, CA-urban sprawl, nothing around for miles, ugly

WORST OF THE WORST (per personal experience):

- Miami

- Newark

- Dallas

- Seattle (overated!)

Seattle Lover Sep 22nd, 2000 12:10 PM

What is everyones gripe with Seattle? What is over rated? I grew up in Redmond and absolutely loved living close to the city. Seattle has SO much to offer and has done SO much for our economy and our way of life...MICROSOFT...need I say more? Is it that people are bitter about all the successes that come out of Seattle? I am starting to think that the people that are slamming Seattle have never lived there and/or lived in So Cal at one point and can't open their mind to another big city that IS safer, cleaner, and much more attractive to the naked eye than The City of Angels. Atleast you can actually see downtown form the freeways in Seattle. We don't get that "marine layer" AKA:SMOG. Have I made my vote clear yet for the worst of the worst?

WeLoveIt Sep 22nd, 2000 01:12 PM

Not to nitpick, Seattle Lover, but the marine layer is not smog. It is simply the moisture trapped between the ocean and the mountains underneath high pressure. Machine-generated pollution gets trapped within it.

Enjoy the rain.

sammy Sep 25th, 2000 05:45 PM

Anywhere in Minnesota with an exception to Minneapolis. Minneapolis is the best place to live in the US. That would be the case if there wasn't a place called San Diego.

Heather Oct 2nd, 2000 01:39 AM

Sammy, surely you must jest! Minneapolis? It's become so overcrowded the highways are like country roads. Tornadoes and 100 MPH straight line winds. Mosquitoes, humidity worse than Central America. Grumpy people who are so mad about the traffic and weather it makes "Minnesota Nice" a misnomer. The only things to do are fish and drink beer. Okay, the Mall is pretty great and Hey gotta love those Vikings!!!

Rebel Oct 2nd, 2000 05:37 PM

Any place that doesn't fly the confederate flag.

ME Oct 3rd, 2000 04:33 AM

Rebel,
I've been to places that fly the confederate flag, and unless you like trailor parks (which you probably do) and large, rusty pick-up trucks, those places have very little to offer.

Donna Oct 25th, 2000 01:51 PM

Houston, without a doubt (or for that matter most any city in Texas). I speak from experience. Too conservative for me.
