How can a thread remain for 4 years?

Anyone know?

arjay Jun 23rd, 2003 07:25 AM

Top Ten Reasons Why A Message Can Last 4 years:

10. Our taste buds are the first part of our bodies to know it's summer.
9. Ice cream is timeless.
8. Almost nobody doesn't like ice cream.
7. Hot fudge, fresh strawberries and
whipped cream.
6. Ice cream for dinner is one of life's best guilty pleasures. (We did it last nite...)
5. The flavor list is seemingly endless.
4. We do best in life when we have a goal...and what better goal than searching out reallly good ice cream?
3. Did I mention hot fudge...?
2. Texture. Taste. Totally tremendous.
1. Because I scream, you scream, we alllllll scream for ICE CREAM!!

Thank you, Arjay. I never thought of most of those!

A post like this can last four years because a really good ice cream place is probably still in business!!

Hamilton's Dairy Barn on Route 201 between Augusta and Waterville in Maine.

Also the Boothbay Harbor Ice Cream Factory (ignore the Ben & Jerry's that they put up right in front of it!)

My vote goes to Baskin Robbins.

Not about to read all 200 some messages, but my votes go to Leiby's in South Tamaqua Pennsylvania and their Hot Fudge, cashew banana split. 2nd choice is any of Lapperts Ice Cream on the Island of Kauai.

Van Dykes, Glen Rock, NJ

Anybody going on a sweet trip to all these places? What a tasty vacation it would be!

MMMMMMMMM. My favorite dessert. Braum's is fantastic in locations throughout Oklahoma. Applewoods in Oklahoma City has the best Vanilla I've ever had.

Nothing beats the ice cream in Italy - and I've eaten a lot of ice cream!

Rusty's Frozen Custard in Norman, Oklahoma.

Giolitti in Rome, Via degli Uffici del Viccario. After Eight Mint or Bacio. I still remember it after 20 years.

dolciani Jul 15th, 2003 02:46 AM

It used to be Gifford's in Washington D.C. area - They had a swiss chocolate and a lemon custard to die for. (They've since gone out of business). Lapperts (out of Hawaii) and located in Rehobeth Beach Delaware is pretty good

I'm always glad to see this thread re-surface. YUMMM!!

Mr. Whippy's in Chincoteague Island, VA. There is no other. Great ice cream, great tee-shirts!

I have put a lot of thought (and travel) into this:

1. Kimball Farm - Littleton, MA - a kiddie ice cream cone is the size of a child's head. The coffee oreo will keep you awake from the caffeine. Outstanding in every way.

2. Goodnoe Dairy - Newtown, PA. To me, a Norman Rockwell portrait of America - kids in little league uniforms late on a Sunday afternoon, with cones dripping all over them. Special mention to the Peanut Butter Cup.

3. Dr. Mikes - Monroe and Bethel, CT. Dr. Mikes can be the number one depending on what flavors they have that day. With only 8 flavors at a time, you have to call in advance. If there is Coffee Mud Pie, it's #1. The #3 rating is based on chocolate, which they have every day.

4. Rich Farm - Oxford, CT. Ice cream is pretty good, but what really makes this place stand out is the setting - a shack between a corn field and a dairy barn. You get your ice cream cone and can walk over the barn to thank the cow who likely provided the milk for the ice cream.

Los Italianos Geladeria in Granada, Spain. Because it's cheap, the portions big, and on a hot Andalusian day, nothin' beats ice cream!

YUM! YUM! MUMMMMMM!

I, on the other hand, could not leave this thread until I had scanned the entire lot of messages! Thanks to all who have so generously shared their favorites!

Mine are:
1) Ghirardelli Square, San Francisco, I have to come home and just have a fix of their ice cream (good not great). I go for the atmosphere and, other times, to watch a bunch of little kids dig into a gigantic "Earthquake" dish! So much FUN!

2) Emack & Bolio's, Newberry Street, Boston - for the best chocolate raspberry ice cream this side of the moon

3) Any cold stone/marble slab ice creamery where they mix your ice cream - I like mine with gummy bears, etc.

4) Anywhere in Europe for a vanilla ice cream with HOT raspberry sauce

5) At home, Breyer's Coffee Ice Cream

Ice cream - morning, noon, and night! YUM!
