Toots Ice Cream in Yarmouth Maine for the Apple Pie Ice Cream made with homemade apple pie chunks or the Brownie Fudge ice cream made with homemade brownies.
Also, North Street Dairy in Waterville Maine for the Cookie Dough ice cream made with homemade cookie dough, or the peanut butter ice cream with chocolate chips! |
Sprinkles ice cream on Poinciana in Palm Beach. Made right there, super tiny shop, but worth the wait to get in.

Peoria, IL -- the Spotted Cow, with cow memorabilia filling the place. Yummy home-made ice cream. They also serve lunch:
4614 N. Prospect Rd. Peoria, IL (309) 682-8120 Sandy |
I don't think I saw AMY'S ICE CREAM on here. Just had some last week in AUSTIN and it was unbelievable - butter pecan. They do the stupid mix-in thing which is a crime because the icecream is beyond super-premium.

Handel's in York, Pennsylvania!!

Ted Drewes' chocolate chip concrete in St. Louis is the best! I am also addicted to Dairy Queen's chocolate covered cherry blizzard. YUM!

Unfortunately we do not have Sonic Drive In nearby but I must put in a plug for their Coconut Cream Pie Milk Shake which I had in Las Vegas.

Whitey's Ice Cream parlors in Davenport, Iowa and throughout the QuadCities, I believe. Homemade, hand-dipped, of course.

I live in Southern Californian, but I am from Pennsylvania. I've been here for over 30 yrs and am convinced that the best ice-cream comes from PA and/or the East Coast. I was thrilled when Bryers came to CA, but it bears no resemblance to my childhood memory. I'm wondering if Arwen is from the East Coast and if she's eating the same Bryers I get here in CA. Perhaps, hers is different than mine, because it used to be fabulous. Bryers' vanilla with the black vanilla bean was absolutely wonderful. I understand it was bought out. It certainly does not taste the same here in Calif as it did in PA many years ago. Even Hagan Das which used to be great (and hardly mentioned here) seems to have declined. It, too was bought out (Nestle, I think?) and does not have that great chocolate taste I remember. I dislike the that new chain, marble slab creamery, or whatever it's called. It's all hype and not much flavor. I would love some recommendations of some really good ice cream places here in Southern California. Alas, I don't think we have very many independent ice cream places that are good enough to sit on the freeway for and the freezer section of the supermarket just does not make the grade. Though when I'm desperate, I settle for Godiva which is about the best I can find! Or I wait until I travel. I agree with the assessment of Bing's in Mexico. It's great. So is the chocolate Carte D'or brand from the freezer on at an ice cream stand in France.I also love the ice cream parlors in France that boast that the ice cream is home made. They are generally very good.

Four C's in Centerville on Cape Cod .. I live in Boston and in general I would say we Bostonians have the best of the best in Ice Cream .. but I will tell you it is worth the drive to the Cape .. Four C's is too die for .. Their peach ice cream is made only for a few weeks in the summer because they only make it during when they can use fresh peaches .. ! I love the peach .. but to be honest .. I haven't had a flavor from 4C's that I didn't love .. ! ! ! ! !

I also can't believe I'm replying to a 6-year old post, but my sickness compels me...
We recently moved from to Texas from Atlanta, and I find myself craving Bruster's ice cream from back home. They have several pumpkin flavors as well as candy apple in the fall; peppermint, eggnog, and cinnamon in the winter; several mint flavors in March; a banana flavor theme in May; etc. Their ice cream is not quite as rich as cold stone or marble slab, but it is by far the best bang for the buck in the Atlanta area. We would routinely see lines 10-20 deep in the dead of winter, all standing outside for their turn at a taste of heaven. I just noticed that we are soon getting a Bruster's in Arlington, TX. They need to hurry, before Texas loses us... Check out their website at www.brusters.com for a list of their ice cream flavors. If you're close to a Bruster's, it's well worth the trip. |
I just tried cold stone. Ohmigosh. It is too much. Almost. I had something with roasted almonds, strawberries, bananas, fudge. The ice cream is over the edge before they add all that but they mix it in and you might as well just shoot yourself. Just remembering it is heaven.
well, what'd you think I'd save you some? |
Tandoori Girl: I respectfully disagree. You're not eating ice-cream. You are eating candy!! Try it by itself without the junk. I found it disappointing. So, where's the good ice-cream places (I'm speaking independent ice cream places, that is) in Southern California?!?
|
Well Tandoori Girl, I have to agree with you. I love Cold Stone. Even my husband, who can take it or leave it when it comes to dessert, loves the place. My personal favorite: cake batter ice cream with yellow cake, hot fudge and whipped cream (Boston Cream Pie). He likes the same but with strawberries instead of fudge. And served in a waffle cup...yum!
That said, I also love 4Cs in Centerville. There's also a place in Whitman, MA, called Peaceful Meadows that makes awesome ice cream. I do think that, in general, we have the best ice cream here in New England! |
