Oh lets see, you or someone you know smokes, cigarettes are KILLING them and you are more concerned about someone being RUDE, in all due respect lady get a grip.

How do you come to the conclusion that it's ok to be rude, as long as you are a non-smoker?

No wasn't implying ok for non-smoker to be rude, its not, only that rudeness was a CONCERN of hers. Being defensive is a trait of most people who smoke Michael?

I'm still puzzled. Rudeness is not ok, whether you are a smoker or not, but CONCERN about rudeness is not ok if you are a smoker - Right?

what a shame CA was/is so very very concerned about smoking but cared less about having an inspector check elect. company holding tanks for proper construction (i.e. liners) & doing on-going ground water testing in the water shed areas around electrical plans. Maybe a different focus would have saved thousands exposed to toxic chemicals.

There are plenty of smokers who live in California, and there are outdoor restaurants who have the patios where you can smoke. Don't let any of the pompous remarks make you think this is how most Californians are. We do welcome you. Toni

I agree with Toni - come to SF, enjoy your vacation, and ignore the rude remarks. Plenty of people in CA smoke, they just don't do it at the tables inside restaurants. <BR><BR>As a smoker, you will actually meet plenty of people while you're here. The smokers tend to congregate outside building entrances or on patios, so you will have the opportunity to talk to lots of people while you are out for your smoke.

Don't be confused Michael, from a medical standpoint and as a general rule smokers minds can be in a "fog" so to speak. You are a smoker I would gather.

maybe they should outlaw driving in california as well; people who drive are for more likely to kill or injure a person in an accident then a smoker is with their second hand smoke. you should probably ban hamburgers, french fries and cheese too as heart disease is a far bigger danger than cancer

smokers should congregate outside of the bars and restaurants in large groups so that it pisses off the owners and they'd have no choice but to let you smoke inside. That's what's going to happen in NYC.

There are restaurants that have outdoor patios that permit smoking...and outdoor cafes allow it as well.

i hope nobody has gotten the wrong idea from my posts.<BR>smoking is bad!!! however, i do believe <BR>the government should stay out of the debate. If restaurant owners want to ban smoking in their establishment good for them. If they don't then people who don't smoke can make up their own minds about going or not. I just believe you can not legislate the peoples health, if you ban smoking in restaurants cause its bad for the health, what's to stop them from banning cheescake. And if its about other patrons safety when will they ban alcohol, because anywhere alcohol is served violence is 50 times more likely to erupt than someplace that is dry.

These topics sure get everyone polarized. I think it's pretty sad! Some people even seem to choose their friends only if they're none smokers. This is sad! In someways, things were better in the 60's I guess when non-smokers weren't so much on their high horses. I'm probably more tolerant of smoking because my Mom has smoked for as long as I can remember. My Dad, my sister and myself have never smoked. By the way, my parents have been married for 50 years in December. Smokers and Non-Smokers CAN live in harmony!! I think more of a live and let live attitude as in Europe would be beneficial to all of us. Lance

Can people not accept that this thread is not about the rights and wrongs of smoking - it is simply asking IF smoking is allowed in restaurants in San Francisco.
