Ranch, Cattle Herding/Slaughtering Vacation

I saw a cattle ranch profiled on the Travel Channel (I think it was in Montana) that had a cattle drive followed by traditional cattle slaughtering. I think it was run by a family named Donner but I can't find it listed on the net <BR> <BR>Has anyone stayed here? <BR> <BR>Thanks

whats Jul 26th, 2001 03:48 AM

Are you sure you want to attend a slaughtering held by the Donner Party?

Ugh! Jul 26th, 2001 04:24 AM

Is it just me or does anyone else find the prospect of a 'Cattle Slaughtering Vacation' appaling ?!

ryan Jul 26th, 2001 05:08 AM

I actually find it quite appealing! I can participate in a real old fashion ranch operation from the cattle drive to the butchering process. That's a piece of American history.<BR><BR>People eat fresh fish, why not fresh beef?

xxx Jul 26th, 2001 05:26 AM

Ryan is a BIG TROLL, obviously!

Jim Jul 26th, 2001 08:09 AM

I've actually seen a couple of cattle field-slaughtered (in Montana), and there is nothing appealing about it. Dressing up like a cowboy and riding horses is appealing, but the dirty work of butchering definitely is not.

x Jul 26th, 2001 08:13 AM

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the purpose of the cattle drives to take the cattle to market to sell? From there they got shipped on the rails to the larger cities where the slaughter houses were? When cattle was slaughtered on the ranches, before the days of electricity and refrigeration, it was typically one and eaten fairly quickly. Right?

kimberly Jul 26th, 2001 08:15 AM

Ryan, <BR>You are disgusting! Killing animals is an outrage and any person that does so deserves the same treatment! <BR> <BR>Animals have rights and should not be used for food, sport or testing of products! <BR> <BR>I hope to find out the name of this ranch so that I can put its name on the PETA website! <BR> <BR>ANIMALS HAVE RIGHTS!

OO Jul 26th, 2001 08:21 AM

.....Woe is me....here we go again. Fasten your seat belts folks.

bert Jul 26th, 2001 08:22 AM

kimmie, <BR>don't you and your little friends have anything better to do. I'm bettin your one of them little rich girls that needs a cause becuase mommie and daddie were hippies and made it sound romantic. how about save the people! <BR> <BR>animals are here to be eaten, hunted and used for clothes. they don't have rights, there animals! <BR> <BR>like the man says "if we weren't meant to eat animals then they shouldn't be made out of meat"

Ernie Jul 26th, 2001 08:24 AM

Bert, puhleease!! Aren't you the big macho, redneck!

kimberly Jul 26th, 2001 08:32 AM

bert, <BR>I'm not going to call you a pig because that dehumanizes the pig! <BR> <BR>you deserve the same treatment that you describe. Right wing Republican fanatics like you are the reason for all the social problems in this country. <BR> <BR>I'm sure you'll die of a heart attack from all the animal fat clogging your arteries! When you do, I'll have my dogs pee on your grave as revenge! <BR> <BR>

medium rare Jul 26th, 2001 08:39 AM

we live in america, and if ryan wants to watch animals being slaughtered he has every right to do it without getting a lecture from kimberly or any of her other pinhead PETA friends. <BR> <BR>kimberly, there's nothing like a good steak. you don't know what you're missing.

Tofu Lover Jul 26th, 2001 08:40 AM

Kimberly- speaking as a vegetarian of 13 years, let me just say-- shut up! This is a troll post, not an excuse for you to go on a PETA inspired rant.

Leone Jul 26th, 2001 09:17 AM

Kimberly, I like your fire! The image of your dogs peeing on Bert made me smile. I know someone with a mink coat, but from what I've hear, even PETA disavows any involvement with those mean little critters. Good luck with this Fodor bunch though ... you're wandered into a real beef and potato crowd. Ciao

kimberly Jul 26th, 2001 09:18 AM

To Tofu Lover <BR>I respect your right to criticize. But unless we stick together helpless and defenseless animals will continue to be killed. <BR> <BR>Yes this is a travel site. But, animals don't get vacations but inhuman people do. <BR> <BR>I've already contacted several organizations in Montana and we are going to stop this death camp!

medium rare Jul 26th, 2001 09:26 AM

oh kimberly, get over yourself. <BR> <BR>nobody gives a rats ass about you or your politics.

Tofu Lover Jul 26th, 2001 09:27 AM

This "death camp" that may or may not exist, except perhaps in the mind of some guy on a travel forum (who THINKS it was in Montana) and who may or may not be a troll? Okaaaay... Well, good luck!

TWOINONE Jul 26th, 2001 09:30 AM

<BR>People, please wake up! Ryan and Kimmy are obviously one and the same person just stirring things up like a good troll does. Note that Kimmy spelled vegan in her last posting as vagan. At least be consistent in your spellings if you are going to troll. <BR> <BR>

ryan Jul 26th, 2001 09:33 AM

To Two in One, <BR>Actually, its three in one. It is a slow day on the trading floor and thought I would try a little experiment. <BR> <BR>Sorry to waste anyone's time <BR> <BR>Ryan/Kimberly/Bert

westerner Jul 26th, 2001 09:34 AM

This is hilarious!! First off, Ryan, you will find many ranches with cattle drives but you won't find a one that slaughters the cattle right there. The cattle are shipped off via semis to packing plants--that is where they are killed. Maybe you are thinking of a cattle drive/branding. That would be an interesting trip, especially if you're from an urban area and have never seen a working ranch. <BR> <BR>Kimberly, get a grip. Most PETA crazed liberals are so intent on forcing others to their behavior that they forget the true definition of liberalism. I thought you were the party of compassion and acceptance. I'll let you in on a little secret--those of us who live in cattle country privately (because we were taught manners by our mothers) mock your hysterical behavior. I won't post again because I'm sure you'll rant and rave for days if people will respond. By all means, call your congressman, urinate on whomever you feel has offended you in some way and generally behave like a fool--it makes the rest of us seem positively sane in comparison.

xxx Jul 26th, 2001 09:52 AM

The sad thing is the Leone is for real!

Carnivore Jul 26th, 2001 10:05 AM

Kimberly: <BR>"Animals don't get vacations"? I'm STILL laughing at that one! <BR>Leone: <BR>"I know someone with a mink coat" What the hell does THAT mean???? <BR>

Leone Jul 26th, 2001 10:56 AM

Well, XXX (I don't approve but mom calls you "porno), people have branded you as negative, so I shall just leave it at that. Now, Canrivore, confused over a mink coat? If you know anything about those nice rich little pelty things, they have a mean streak a smile wide. So, wouldn't it be fun if mink were the one thing PETA refused to defend. But unhappily for the coat owners, PETA has a rep for throwing red paint, which leaves the Dry Cleaning Institute scratching its head. Now, I just cannot do it with numbers while you try to draw a connecting line. Ciao

Carnivore Jul 26th, 2001 11:48 AM

Leone: <BR>Either stop taking the meds or get on them, cuz, brother, you make no sense. I guess what I find truly scary is how intelligent you seem to think you are. Honey, do us all a favor...sit down and re-read your contributions on all posts...then just sit down.

amentowhat Jul 26th, 2001 11:56 AM

<BR>Carnivore, <BR> <BR>I could not have summed up L/Leone's postings better. The guy's posts just get more and more bizarre. I think all the time he spends parked in front of the computer is really frying his brain. In my book the L he uses as his posting name stands for Lunatic! I am sure he will now come back with some cute retort that will be complete and utter nonsense.

Not Bothered Jul 26th, 2001 12:02 PM

Oh, let's give L a break. He's like our resident Dennis Miller. Most of his posts make no sense, but every now and then, one of them really clicks. I actually think there are several L's inside of L, all fighting for the keyboard. So for me, it is fun to read them and figure out which L is posting this time. <BR> <BR>And at least L is brief, unlike Oaktown, who just prattles on and on.

emmy Jul 26th, 2001 12:05 PM

Not Bothered I think you're right. Either L/Leone is Dennis Miller or Johnny Cash because they all wear black, black and more black.

Carnivore Jul 26th, 2001 12:18 PM

Not Bothered: <BR>Comparing Dennis Miller to Leone/L is like comparing Groucho Marx to Moe of the Three Stooges.

xxx Jul 26th, 2001 12:19 PM

Is Leone male or female?

Leone Jul 26th, 2001 12:59 PM

Well, so my posts don't make any sense to you? My god, I thought they had, and talk about a Major Fret. Meds? Come on, now, you can do better than that ... what a tired old slur. Male or female? Asked and answered, XXX, but what's still unclear is why you're so negative ... notice that particular descriptive never shows up with me. And Carnivore, what a charming name for posting ... and your message is so consistent, LOL ... to quote you to you, "sit down and re-read your contributions on all posts .. then sit down." Gee, didn't you drop a stitch in there somewhere, Carnivore? My posts more bizarre ... Lunatic? May I refer you to the Bereavement posting or Carry-On Luggage, and consider my ideas and thoughts in the context of the crazies gnashing their teeth over the major issues of our day (like, doesn't that overhead belong to the seat below?). And no, my brain is not fried or fatty or any of that ... I take it rare, Amentowhat (excuse me, but what in hell does your name mean?). And Not Bothered, try patronizing one who needs it. And Emmy, thanks for paying attention to the b, b and m b, but outlaw I'm not, but rings of fire I loved. I assume you get it. And for the theory there are several L's ... of course there are ... all working in harmony. You know, I think I now understand ... ever since I began this response, I've had this vision of aluminum siding ... hey, it's not emanating from me. One of you must be two dimensional. Who is most bothered by the multiple L reality? But now, must run, but remember, if you come to dance, first take a lesson. Otherwise first thing you know, you're out on the floor and embarrassing yourself. Have a good afternoon, and it has been a real gas exchanging ideas with you, but I imagine our paths will cross no more. Ciao, L

Not bothered Jul 26th, 2001 01:40 PM

So much for L being brief. <BR> <BR>Aw, L, I wasn't trying to insult you. Read my post again, and you'll see. <BR> <BR>L is a mystery man, I think, and (I'm going out on a limb here) he might work in the government regulating some aspect of safety, like Consumer Product Safety or some such. I actually think he's got a pretty good size brain, and I like that in a man. <BR> <BR>L, how did I do?

Troll Buster Jul 26th, 2001 01:48 PM

Ok, now we're really trolling. Brilliant, Ryan, an especially creative and downright chilling troll. <BR> <BR>How do we know it is a troll? I checked the Travel Channel's program schedule for the last few weeks. No such program was broadcast. <BR> <BR>Ryan, please try again, as you have a real talent for trolling rarely seen on the board. I'll be waiting. <BR> <BR>Toodles!

ryan Jul 26th, 2001 02:01 PM

Thanks Troll Buster. I though the Donner reference would be a sure give away. <BR> <BR>I have to mention a hilariously funny book called "Letter's from a Nut" that inspired me to this stupidity. <BR> <BR>This guy, some think it is Jerry Seinfeld, wrote these absolutely bizarre and entertaining letters to Hotels/Restaurants/Retail Stores that are just brillant. <BR> <BR>One example, he wrote to the Nordstrom's store manager in San Diego asking to purchase a mannequin in that look liked his dead next door neighbor to present to his family as a gift. The responses from Nordstroms are equally amusing in their seriousness. <BR> <BR>Honestly, it is one of the funniest books that I have ever seen.

whatadull Jul 26th, 2001 02:18 PM

Ryan, Thanks for livening up an otherwise dull Thursday here at Fodors. (And I was just about to go off on the PETA people) Nice try though!

Lhasreallylostit Jul 26th, 2001 02:24 PM

<BR>L, <BR> <BR>Earth to L! Earth to L! Let's just cut to the chase L - either you are a complete idiot or you are insane. Quit polluting this board with your senseless posts. It is obvious that you get off on the attention that you get on this board - good or bad. Otherwise you would not keep arguments going and respond to every single post you come across. <BR> <BR>I can understand the confusion over whether you are a male or female - I have not run across many men with the name Leone who use the word ciao constantly-not exactly a manly image you are conveying there sweetie. <BR> <BR>Oh and to what Not Bothered said in your defense - I agree that you are probably a federal government worker because you obviously have way too much time on your hands for goofing around on the internet during the workday.

Tofu Lover Jul 26th, 2001 02:59 PM

Ryan- <BR> <BR>I was pretty sure you were a troll from the beginning, and "Kimberly" was making me suspicious, but you totally got me with "Burt"! <BR> <BR> <BR>

tammie Jul 26th, 2001 04:51 PM

I cannot understand why any of us would be interested in this crap. Is this a travel site or are we just here to insult each other? What a worthless thread this is. Why do you people respond? I'm new to Fodor's and not coming back. It's just garbage.

x Jul 26th, 2001 05:23 PM

<BR>aw, c'mon tammie. we're just havin' a little fun. don't go away - we're all very nice people. well, most of us anyway.

topper2 Jul 27th, 2001 04:53 AM
