When did the Carnegie Deli close? I love their sandwiches.
Is the term "samich" some low-class pronunciation of sandwich? I don't believe I've ever heard that. |
The new restaurant Ditch Plains, owned by a couple of Australians, features an incredible lobster roll that is worth a visit. It's on Bedford Street in the Village.

I thought the lobster roll at Pearl was way better than Ditch Plains...and I hated the chips that came with it. And Lenny's is not just any corner deli...it's WAY better than most corner delis. That's my two cents:-)
There is a fantastic place on Sullivan b/t Spring and Prince called Alidoro. It's a tiny Italian deli with one table in it. The best meat, cheese, and bread, and the sandwiches are enormous. They aren't cheap, but they easily make two meals. |
Has this thread been edited? One of the posters stated that the Carnegie Deli is closed - and that post is now gone.

When I was a wee lad, I couldn't pronounce sandwich, so I said "samich." I have noticed that a lot of little kids pronounce it the same way.
I am going to be around Prince St. tomorrow. Maybe I will have a samich at Alidoro. |
Sue, PamSF said the now closed Second Avenue Deli not Carnegie.
BTW, I agree with Pam. |
Mistake ... Carnegie is open, 2nd Ave Deli is now closed.

I was going to answer your question by telling you to go to Manganaro's Hero Boy on 9th and 38th (for the best chicken cutlet sandwich in the city), but then I realized a guy who still calls it a "samich" is probably ok with just your everyday PB&J.
