I do believe maribethp meant to write pet "friendly" rental, not pet rental. What a difference a word makes.

Hello. It's me again. People who travel with their pets constantly know what pet rental means. At any rate, well, not any rate, I need advice on the best southern FL beaches for pet inclusion. Or nice pet friendly towns.I am glad so many people were amused by my post, however.

Maybe it is a geographical thing, I have been traveling with a large dog for the past 8 years and 18 before that with a cat...we never called it pet rentals..

Fort Myers or Sanibel come to mind from something I read somewhere a long time ago.

Just checked my Fodor's Florida 2008 here on my desk... we praise a particular park outside of Fort Myers, Lovers Key State Park. A google search yielded these dog rules for that park:

Not sure that helps the rental question exactly but I assume that were there is dog friendly beaches there are dog friendly rentals.

Perhaps someone with dogs can confirm these two recommendations?

See now, I would have thought pet rentals would trigger the conceot of rentals that allow pets before one would think of actually renting a pet, but who am I to say? Anyway, thanks to all for the suggestions.

Actually, I recall reading a story about hotels that &quot;lend&quot; dogs to people who stay there--I believe it was in Vancouver BC. As a doglover with two German shepherds (who I couldn't rent 'cause they wouldn't go with anyone other than me, DH, or DD), I can understand how someone would want to do this. I for one would.

Rosemary Beach in the panhandle offers some pet friendly rentals. If you search their site for property availability, one option is for pet friendly.

One other thing to check is whether the county where you are staying allows pets on the beach without a license/permit. In Fort Walton, pets on the beach have to have a license/permit; however, to obtain a license/permit, you have to be a resident of the county.

Nice suggestion, but I think the panhandle is not warm enough in February.

Actually, lately I've read several different articles and even the local t.v. news did a story on folks actually renting pets - so that's what I thought (as well as ohter posters did) when I read your title. I agree that &quot;pet friendly&quot; would probably get more responses of the type you're looking for.

And who would ever really want to rent a pet - how sad it would be for the poor kitty/pooch - they bond with their owners and feel loss when they (the owners) leave them so even if it's a touchy-feely thing for people I think the pets would get the bad end of the deal having to get used to a new person every time they got rented.
