Open question for Fodors Editors.

Last evening I went to the trouble to type out a lengthy recommendation to a post asking for Disney resort recommendations. It was well thought out, informative, and I think very helpful to the poster. Imagine my surprise when I see that this reply was deleted! Why was my reply deleted?<BR><BR>I think you are doing a disservice to the posters here by deleting legitimate information. Why should anyone bother to respond to questions when the editors are going to delete them? Please answer the question and/or but my reply back.

x Mar 28th, 2002 05:10 AM

Sometimes it seems they delete the whole thread if one or two posts are rude.

nina Mar 28th, 2002 05:18 AM

The thread is still there. It's incredibly frustrating to go to the effort to type out a response to try and help a fellow poster only to have an editor delete it. Really makes you want to go out of your way to help people.

x Mar 28th, 2002 05:41 AM

It's funny, they delete some stuff that shouldn't be deleted and other stuff that should be deleted stays on here. Weird.

George Mar 28th, 2002 05:48 AM

I just (last night and this morning) had a lengthy new post about our Keys trip just disappear.<BR><BR>Went into a black hole, and never emerged.<BR><BR>The only possible problem I could see is that I gave an URL for a Keys photo album that I'd put up on the Yahoo photo site. <BR><BR>Interesting...

xx Mar 28th, 2002 05:51 AM

With regard to the Keys posts, there has been some odd postings so Fodors seems to be watching those for anything out of the ordinary. There was one yesterday that mentioned Ron.

ron Mar 28th, 2002 06:06 AM

The problem here is not aggressive deleting by Fodors, it is lengthy posts. There is some unknown size limit for postings; postings that are too large just disappear. Cut your lengthy report into smaller chunks, post them one after the other, and they will appear. See the Took my sister Amy to England report on the Europe Board.

George Mar 28th, 2002 06:13 AM

Thanks for the tip, ron. Will break that monster down later and give it another shot.

xxx Mar 28th, 2002 06:19 AM

I frequently leave lengthy posts and never have a problem with getting it deleted. Why aren't you emailing fodors? They have always been very good about deleting irresponsible replys while leaving my replys alone on the same thread. Deleting the crap is a full time job as you can see from much of the nonsense that gets posted. Board has really gone down hill as tourist traffic has slowed down. Last year this time you just had many more experienced travelers on line. Always had some kids playing but no where near the moronic posts you see now.

nina Mar 28th, 2002 06:24 AM

xxx, When I have emailed Fodors in the past I have never gotten a reply. Have you? Another frustrating experience. No one likes to be ignored.<BR><BR>At least this way I get a response from someone, even if it's other posters who can lend some insight.

J. Fred Mar 28th, 2002 06:34 AM

The office is empty. The door is closed. The lights are out except for the one next to the chortling chimpanzee at the keyboard.

nina Mar 28th, 2002 06:40 AM

Just as I suspected, J. Fred!

Steve Mar 28th, 2002 06:43 AM

Who wouldn't close the door and turn out the lights to all of this? People whining about my thread was deleted, you don't reply back to me, or somebody was rude to me. Everything you get on this site is free so Fodor's owes you nothing in return.

Lenore Mar 28th, 2002 06:48 AM

Yesterday (or maybe the day before) I posted a couple of brief replies to different questions, but they didn't "take". It's not that they were deleted, they just never posted in the first place. I kept hitting my back button and re-posting till they finally posted. It was the only time I've ever had this happen. Maybe it was just a super busy time???

xxx Mar 28th, 2002 06:51 AM

I wonder if you attempted a more professional or perhaps courteous approach maybe you would get better results. I guess I am speaking about tone here. Not meaning to insult here but just look at your last line kind of sounds like a pouting teen. If you are not a pouting teen why would you want to convey that image?

nina Mar 28th, 2002 09:19 AM

Well gee Steve and xxx, perhaps you don't mind it when you spend time to write something in an attempt to help other posters out only to have it erased, but I do. Yes, I'm pouting. I fail to see how my question was discourteous. "Please answer the question and/or put my reply back" is unprofessional and discourteous? I guess everyone has their own perception.<BR><BR>If people's responses start disappearing on a regular basis I guarantee you most of us aren't going to bother to respond, which for the real travelers would be a shame, and Fodors won't have a site to offer anyone, free or not.

Jayelle Mar 28th, 2002 09:29 AM

I also tried to post a couple of replies last night that didn't take. I assume it was just another glitch with the system.

xxx Mar 28th, 2002 09:47 AM

Nina weather on not we would be angry at having our messages deleted here is not the issue. The issue is respect you will not get it if you don't put it out yourself first. Can't really help you if you don't understand how your responses read.

Susan Mar 28th, 2002 09:53 AM

I had similar problems yesterday trying to post a reply, and it didn't take. Tried a few times on a few different threads. Nina, I don't think your posted was deleted by Fodors editors, they were just having some kind of system problem that wasn't adding posts. I know it is frustrating! I suggest if you have lengthy and well-thought out post you could copy and paste it somewhere else (like as a note in Outlook or a Word document) until you are sure the post has "taken."

Keith Mar 28th, 2002 09:57 AM

She is not really looking for answers here Susan just a place to be angry. You are the others have mentioned this to nina she only comes back on to argue. Also think her attitude is over the top.

jess Mar 28th, 2002 10:06 AM

I have e-mailed Fodors in the past about rude posts and have received a form letter back. After a few more e-mails to them asking why I was only getting form letters did I finally get something signed from Danny Mahgin. Maybe you just need to be persistant.

Arabella Mar 28th, 2002 10:08 AM

I agree with you, Nina. It is annoying to take the time to answer a question only to have it deleted. I've also had the problem, which others on this thread have noted, of not having my post "take."<BR><BR>

nina Mar 28th, 2002 11:14 AM

Okay then Arabella. Maybe it's the glitches and not the one sentence in my response where I happened to say hello to my old and dear friend Kiel***. I thought it was the mere mention of his name which caused the hasty removal of my otherwise very legitimate post. <BR><BR> Is there such a thing as Fodors paranoia? If so I think I may have it.

catharsis Mar 28th, 2002 11:21 AM

Gee - you think it might be because your name is Nina, and the fact that they probably auto-scrub all submissions with the word, "Nina"? And if anything is slightly objectionable they pull it? (considering your past behavior, sweetcheeks.)

nina Mar 28th, 2002 11:38 AM

Yes honeybuns, that's it exactly. Objectionable behavior? Moi?<BR><BR>Hey, at least I don't post anonymously like some of the chickens**ts on this thread, and you know who you are darlings.

Obs. Mar 28th, 2002 11:47 AM

Nina, Nina, I hope you don't count all of us among that group - some of us like to think we've got syncopating rhythms. Take care.

nina Mar 28th, 2002 11:50 AM

Oh no RnR, not you, never you sweetie! (Am I perceptive or what?)

keel Mar 28th, 2002 11:52 AM

From KIEL*** himself: <BR><BR>The funny thing is, my lambs, is that my Kielbasa posts have been completly innocent and clean. It's the editor imagination that "makes" my Kielbasa posts "dirty." <BR><BR>Ok, I did slip once. ONCE. But other than that, my posts have been fun, exhilariting, full of energy, and I've included some travel tips in there lately too. Don't see why they keep gettin the hook!

nina Mar 28th, 2002 11:55 AM

What could anyone possibly find objectionable about the innocent kielb***? Those editors need to get their minds out of the gutter! (T minus 10 seconds and counting).

Obs. Mar 28th, 2002 11:58 AM

Nina, you're the best - and perception, wow, you are the best. Made my day! Have a good afternoon. Sunny where I am, and spring is roaring in.

nina Mar 28th, 2002 12:08 PM

Obs, and they say blondes are dumb. Have a good one too, I'm heading out for a run, nice weekend everybody!

ddd Mar 28th, 2002 12:13 PM

Gee Nina where do you find all the time to answer your own post under different names?

nina Mar 28th, 2002 12:26 PM

I don't work, so what's the big deal?<BR>It's lonely here with my 10,000 tv and empty house. I have to post all my personalities to make my life worth living.

xxx Mar 28th, 2002 12:29 PM

<BR>just might want to pick up a book and read. Being interesting is not a birth right you have to invest some time and experience for it.

stopobsessing Mar 28th, 2002 01:19 PM

Yeah, and if you believe those last few posts were from nina I've got a bridge to sell you.

xxx Mar 28th, 2002 01:25 PM

Grow up and come to forum when you have something to offer about travel.

avy Mar 28th, 2002 01:25 PM

I bet that last "obsessing" post was from Nina. Any takers?

yyy Mar 28th, 2002 01:36 PM

Why does anyone care? xxx, don't you have anything better to do?

Spoilsport Mar 28th, 2002 01:56 PM

You could only wish you were as obsessed as jess to email fodors. Talk about obsession! Probably the same person who looks up the past history of past fun posters like killjoy and bitterpants (one and same) and made them leave.

xxx Mar 28th, 2002 02:01 PM

because I care about the quality of this forum think posts like Nina’s alienate intelligent responses and consequently engaging stories about travel.
