Glad you liked the tropical photos page Susan. Hope they make people feel a little warmer on the inside. The Bora Bora and Aitutaki albums are my favorites. Bora Bora is the most beautiful place I have ever been, but Aitutaki was pretty terrific too - 80+ degree crystal-clear water (sigh).

Ken

In Santa Barbara today it was short sleeves and sunscreen weather- beautiful, in the 70's. I'd like to see snow here though, just for a day!
|
Just got in from jogging around Ala Moana Beach Park here in Honolulu. Yep, it is pretty nippy tonight and I will have to use two blankets! But the sunset was wonderful and mostly clear skies.

Postal, that is exactly what my brother does with his family! When it dips into the lower 60s, the family gathers round the oven like a makeshift fireplace.

I wish I could help you. I live in normally sunny Tampa, FL. But, right now it's 28 degrees.
|
28 in Tampa at 6:30 AM. We've got half our landscaping covered in sheets. The news is not all bad though. This is the first time in 5 years the temp has fallen below 30 degrees.

What the heck going on? I'm here in mountains of NC; its -3 and warmer than Maine, Montana and Alaska!! Did the earth flip?
|
Frozen you have to see the Hudson and East Rivers they are freezing up in large ice chunks. We never see this.

It's been -10 f or less every morning here in New Hampshire for the last week, -25 last Saturday AM! We also have 4 feet of snow on the ground. We are used to cold up here, but this is the coldest, snowiest January in a while - a real 'old fashioned' winter!
|
It's -6 this morning in southern new Hampshire; the only bright side of this 12-day cold wave is that the sky has been cloudless--bright blue sunny days. But if you're one of the people coming to NH or VT to ski, please dress appropriately, or they won't let you on the slopes--if they're even open.
|
I think we feel the cold here in NYC worse than anywhere else because almost all of us take public transit to work...so we've got to WALK in it every morning...brr...

Fashion goes out the window as we pull on our thick socks, warm boots, big fat mittens and hat...and wrap a scarf around our heads 5 times with just our little eyes peeking out...
|
Dem aint ice chunks, they "old friends" so to speak.
|
it's like -6 degrees with the windchill here in nyc! and all of us that dress in black look pretty funny in our big coats, hats, scarfs...but ny'ers are tough. we'll handle it. pina colada anyone?

Another report from New Hampshire.

My wife and I spent Tuesday and Wednesday at Waterville Valley with the intention of skiing and relaxing.

Tues: -12F on the summit w/35mph winds
Weds: -17 on the summit w/25+mph winds

They closed the mountain on Wednesday. Dangerously cold. Frostbite within minutes if skin is exposed.

We did not ski but spent a lot of time in the hot tub, eating, and drinking.

Today it's above zero and it seems comfortable.

MM

Here in San Diego it's sunny and 68F. The weather for the Superbowl should be a couple of degrees warmer. So, if you watch the game on Sunday, you might get lots of lovely pictures of warm, beautiful San Diego.
|
Here in the Ft Lauderdale area we had record lows this morning and our high temps for the day are expected to be record lows as well. A little warmer tomorrow, but we've had a very cold January this year.

My tropical paradise fantasy is lounging by the pool at our resort in Wailea Maui, sipping a Blue Hawaiian and watching the whales play in the beautiful sapphire blue Pacific. Pure Heaven!

mm: Maybe you can help me out here. My family of 4 (2 boys-16&9) do 2 vacations a year. We do a summer trip & a winter trip; for example in 2000 winter we did Yellowstone, San Francisco in summer, then Manhattan in winter, etc.. We plan about 6 months in advance and love the "spur of moment" choices. We stay within continental U.S.. New Hampshire has come up a few times. What can you suggest? Doesnt matter if winter or summer, we average 5 days, we like the outdoors, like history, like to eat!, and like "tourists traps" so to speak. Can you recommend some ideas? Thank you so much.
