Patrick,
I'm so glad Lee is fine and that you both don't have far to go for the GTG.

emcash Jun 13th, 2008 04:37 AM

Patrick- I'm so relieved to read that all is well. I know first hand of what you speak- both my parents having been afflicted with dementia and alezheimers. It is really wonderful how you're able to travel and do such nice things with Lee. I hope the rest of your trip goes smoothly!

Patrick, what a scary experience. Reminds me of when my little kids would get out of sight for a few minutes, and how panicked I'd feel. And Lee was gone for so long! You must have been terrified. He's lucky to have you.

Does he carry a cell phone, so you could call him or track him with that? Or maybe he'd lose it?

skatedancer Jun 13th, 2008 08:47 AM

Patrick, have you always found it easy to get a table at the After Party? If we don't get there until 11, will we be alright? DD always likes to hang out at the stage door after shows, so she is begging me to see if I need to get there ahead to get a spot!

I called, and they said there's always room for everybody, but just wanted to doublecheck with you!

NeoPatrick Jun 13th, 2008 10:34 AM

We usually get there before it starts. Last week we took a table for four right down front and the other two seats remained empty the whole night. There were a few places all evening. People tend to join up --communal table style. And I was mixed up last week. I was thinking it started at 10:30 and got there then, but that's just when they open the doors. Nothing starts until 11 or a little after, and I think there are always still plenty of seats at 11.
When are you going, skatedancer? We'll probably be there every Friday this month -- we could save you a couple places.

skatedancer Jun 13th, 2008 12:16 PM

Patrick, that would be great! We are going on June 27th, after seeing "Passing Strange." We are "pulling a Patrick" and seeing three shows out of our four nights in the city. We will also have just seen "Gypsy," so when i tell her she can meet a friend of Mazeppa's she'll be thrilled!

This may sound weird, but because my kids have been warned ad nauseum by me and the schools about the dangers of the internet, I will not want to share any of our personal info, such as where we live, while I am with DD. This is not because I picture you in a nefarious way, but I need to model this behavior for my kids. I hope you understand where I"m coming from....

It certainly will be fun to meet you! Just let me know how to recognize you.

When I saw the report title, my first thought was "I hope Lee hasn't gotten lost this trip." :-)

I'm so glad you found him fairly quickly - thank goodness for the NYPD!

Looking forward to more of your delightful report.

Lee Ann

I hope to be able to take advantage soon of some of these wonderful recommendations.

And so glad being lost was only a terrible short scare.

Mamaw Jun 13th, 2008 03:32 PM

NeoPatrick Wow, talk about a hectic beginning. I'm so glad it all worked out. Lee is blessed to have you...

Looking forward to more.

Theresa in Detroit..

NeoPatrick Jun 13th, 2008 04:06 PM

Skatedancer, we'll be easy to recognize. Probably the oldest two men in the room! My white hair stands out. Are there just the two of you?

That's cool about the "setting the standard thing". We had a friend, a single mother of a teenager, who used to have come pick her up at our house when she came for dinner. Since she didn't want her son to drive after drinking, he had to be the "designated" driver to come pick her up if she went out drinking.

But I think you're confused. I'm not Mazeppa's friend; that was tuscanlifeedit.

LoveItaly Jun 13th, 2008 09:09 PM

Hello Skatedancer, I just want to say although I understand your not wanting to give personal information on a public forum I can tell you that our Patrick and his dear Lee are two men that I would trust with anyone. I say that as someone who was fortunate enough at Patrick's invitation to spend a good part of a day in San Francisco at a restaurant and afterwards at the wonderful apartment in SF they had rented with them. You could not find more lovely gentlemen in my opinion.

skatedancer Jun 14th, 2008 05:07 AM

thanks, LoveItaly. It's not a matter of how I feel about Patrick, but I will be with my teenage daughter, and I feel that I need to set an example for her. The reality is that we are meeting a stranger from a chatroom, and if I expect her to continue to be responsible about her behavior, then I need to "walk the talk" about the lessons I give her.

My daughter is a total theater nut, so we will have plenty to talk about with Patrick and Lee without divulging our personal data!

Patrick, I see now you said you have a friend in "November," not "Gypsy." In either case, we still look forward to seeing you!

NeoPatrick Jun 14th, 2008 06:08 AM

You missed the BEST night at After Party last night. I'll be adding it in my week report maybe posted tomorrow if I find the time, since today wraps up week 2.

Oh, and here's a picture link from the NYC GTG yesterday if you want to recognize us. Lee's the one in the pink shirt (we wouldn't have lost him yesterday!) and I'm the white haired guy in the light green shirt. There are more pics on the thread about the NYC GTG.

Thanks so much for taking the time for this report. I love Roberto Passon!
You are a terrific partner. My heart rate's not down to normal yet!
And instant mashed potatoes are terrifying as well.

cd Jun 14th, 2008 07:57 AM

Thanks for the pictures Patrick, looks like you all had fun.

rncheryl Jun 14th, 2008 08:12 AM

Patrick: I can only echo what others have said. My Mom had Alzheimers and only wanted to stay home. It was so hard on my Dad, who was a vivacious people-person. But his first duty was to his partner of 53 years.

Anyway, you are my Source of All Knowledge Of Dining and Drama in NYC so definitely looking for more.

By the way, we were in Coral Springs the day you were there..where did you end up eating?

MomDDTravel Jun 14th, 2008 08:30 AM

oh ((((Patrick and Lee)))))

Thank goodness all is okay. You must have been beside yourself.

Hope with the excitment over you are enjoying your month in NYC

bfrac Jun 14th, 2008 09:07 AM

Patrick, I can only imagine the panic you felt over Lee and am so relieved you found him as quickly as you did. I admire your strength and devotion to Lee and it is so wonderful that you can both still enjoy your travels. Great photo, you have a lovely smile.

Your reports are great, please keep it coming about the food and theatre. We will be in NY in a couple of weeks and definitely want to try your favorite Roberto Passon.

laurelee Jun 14th, 2008 09:59 AM

Patrick..I've taken your NY advice before....my husband and I loved Roberto Passon. This time I'm going with my sister and elderly mother...we are going to Spamalot. Can you make a recommendation for a nice restaurant that will serve good but some plainer options for my mom? Location for minimal walking is a must...nice setting and food are what I want!

NeoPatrick Jun 14th, 2008 01:58 PM

mcheryl, we ate at Big Bear Brewing Company in Coral Springs --really quite good -- I posted it on that thread where we had asked.

laurelee, I don't usually recommend Sardi's for dinner, but in your case it might be just the ticket -- right across the street from Spamalot, so couldn't be easier, and it has great atmosphere. I've always thought the food is very plain, but in this case, maybe that's a good thing? A little pricey, but I guess you pay for the "atmosphere" and "tradition".

Down the street in the same block is Angus MacIndoe, quite a theatre hangout with a varied menu.

Really casual, right outside the doors of Spamalot is Juniors. The cheesecake is special.
