Maui Countdown!

Seventeen days for me!

Anyone else headed to this pit of an island?

How long until you go?

Aloha ((H))

Barbara5353 Mar 18th, 2009 04:33 PM

I am envious. Love Maui, but going to Kauai this time. My countdown is 28 days. Where are you staying on Maui?

iamq Mar 18th, 2009 04:46 PM

Hi Barbara,

We are staying the entire time at the Hotel Hana Maui. Love it and can't wait for my hot stone massages, the horse back riding, the hiking, and the incredible views at sunrise. Have yourself a great trip.

iceeu2 Mar 18th, 2009 05:17 PM

Traitor! Glad to see you are still a rich Kal-ifornian and can afford hot stone massges and horse back riding!

Hey, you guys wanna hear something????? On the day that I turned 56, I looked at my calendar and I only have 56 days left until we leave for Kauai!!!!

Barbara, have you been to Kauai before? If so, you know how wonderful it is....if not, you are gonna love it!

I was going to suggest the morning tea and scones at AKL but it looks like they discontinued it. But you still might enjoy this if you have never been. Enjoy

iceeu: Yes, I have been to Kauai a few times. The first time was about a year after Hurrican Iwa. Just googled Iwa to check the date...1983! OUCH!! I was VERY YOUNG!!

My favorite Kauai trip was when I stayed in a cottage in the verdant countryside above Kapaa. It was one of those special times when the weather was perfect, the seas were calm, the flowers were in bloom, and all the restaurants served great food.

mnisann Mar 19th, 2009 05:38 AM

We went to Kauai last year (April) and fell in love! It's a great place for R&R.

This year we are going to Maui (first time) and we leave on 04/04/09-so our count down is...19 days. We'll be there for 7 days and then back to Oahu for 3 days... Can't wait!

mnisann Mar 19th, 2009 05:38 AM

Oops-I knew they added that preview button for a reason... :)
My date is actually supposed to be 04/07/09...

mauigirl50 Mar 19th, 2009 07:15 AM

iamq - I'm so jealous! I'm going back to Maui (last trip was 2006) Feb 2010. I can hardly wait. This trip will be different than any of my others because my daughter, s-i-l, and 2 grandkids are coming with. This trip will be focused more on the kids who will be 5 & 7 at that time. I always say that I live in Minneapolis, but my heart & soul live in Maui!

JohnD Mar 19th, 2009 11:39 AM

Well there you go again...
We'll scout the %%-bushes for the official (monk) seal of turtletown :S-

iamq Mar 19th, 2009 12:42 PM

Love Wailea and Makena. Gonna miss em this trip. Marteen is pissed, as we aren't even taking our snorkeling gear this trip. "It is going to rain all day, there's no decent beach, no place to snorkel, and it going to be COLD!" Blah, Blah, Blah.

NeoPat, the hotel does one trip up in the hills and another one down along the coast. They are an hour each or you can combine them.

Can't wait to trudge up the hill to Fagan's Cross for a view to die for. Will trudge carefully as there are cow patties everywhere!

rncheryl Mar 19th, 2009 02:13 PM

Well, two months from tomorrow we check into our condo in Hanalei. Still seems like just research; can't actually imagine us on the lanai overlooking the ocean. And DH is doing his usual "you plan and let me know" routine, so no one to discuss it with.

Except you Fodorites, of course!

iceeu2 Mar 19th, 2009 04:15 PM

cheryl, my DH does the very same thing. And, then he is so animated when he tell everyone what we did and bores them to death with our pictures!!

bullyboy, tell Marteen he better just straighten his act up...lest, I must come and not snorkle with thee!!

I must tell you that just today I loaned an acquaintance my guide books for Maui. He and his DW are planning their very first trip to the islands! If his DW is as excited as he is, they are going to have a wonderful time!

((r))

iamq Mar 20th, 2009 04:59 AM

Okay...Who else is going to this overcommercialized, floating-in-the-Pacific version of California?

Any fodorites want to have a GTG in Hana on the 8,9,10 of April?

JohnD Mar 20th, 2009 05:16 AM

Darn by that((o)), we'll have passed((A))over you for good (Friday) back on the mainland, Aloha.

Grammie56 Mar 20th, 2009 06:53 AM

IAMQ...Greetings! I am going back to Maui for the first time in 10 years...and staying at the Mana Kai, also...27 days til paradise! What can you share about the Mana Kai? We'll be on the 8th floor...

MelissaHI Mar 20th, 2009 07:20 AM

Are you venturing away from Hana at all? If you go to Macy's, say hi to my cousin!

http://tinyurl.com/btpdo6

I still say a visit to Oahu is in order! ;)

iamq Mar 20th, 2009 05:51 PM

Hi Grammie, All I know about the Mana Kai is the location is great. It is at one end of a fantasic beach. Never been inside any of the units.

Hi Mels, No we are staying put, but we have a few hours to kill in Kahului on the way back. We'll get a cab, hear over there and take her to lunch...that is if she doesn't mind being seen with a couple of haole queens who will be grumpy because they are going home. :-d

Why don't you come out to Hana? You and Martenn could go for a run while I lounge by the pool. Then we could all get hot rock massages and end the day with dinner on our deck watching the waves crash? Come on!

gyppielou Mar 20th, 2009 08:11 PM

Funny, in my younger more svelt days I never would have thought to spend a day in Hana with two gorgeous haole queens at nekid beach, never once bothering to check me out.

Now, knowing they're not interested in looking is kind of reassuring! LOL!!!

Funny how things change!!!

MelissaHI Mar 20th, 2009 11:15 PM

She's originally from the Bay Area!

Oooohhh I couldn't run with Marteen. He's too fast for me. I don't think I could even last a 5K alongside him.

iamq Mar 21st, 2009 06:24 AM

Ok then, you and I could lounge by the pool and he could run to his heart's content dodging cow patties as he goes! 3:-O

enzian Mar 21st, 2009 08:15 AM

Have a great time, iamq! Can't join the GTG because we'll be in Marin County then, trying not to get lost on the Dipsea trails on our hike.

Is there really good horseback riding on Maui? Beach or grassland? I loved riding on Molokai---through tall grass up high on a ridge, with views out to the ocean and another island far off.

iamq Mar 21st, 2009 08:28 AM

The horseback riding I've done (once, 15 years ago) is on Hana Ranch land I believe, but I don't know about other parts of the island. I don't believe there is acutal beach riding in Hana, as there aren't many beaches and it is mostly rocky and rugged ocean bluffs.

gyppielou Mar 24th, 2009 10:21 AM

Bula!!!

Bully for you strutting around in your sulus from Navini like the cosmopolitan world travellers in the know that you are!!! You will be the talk of Heavenly Hana!

Good times!
