I Miss Kal, etal

What has happened to Kal, etal......The last I read he had messed up his knee and was nursing it with Italian gravey!!
Where is Susie and Scarlett and Margo...and Big Daddy??
I know RichnPA is still in Kauai...Lucky dog..
Have yall all gone to other boards or what?

JohnD Aug 5th, 2003 05:00 AM

I do not intend to add fuel to the fire, but someone suggested in a recent post that Kal was but one identity of a single Fodorite with multiple screennames. :?

ccolor Aug 5th, 2003 05:29 AM

Whoaaaa - just a minute there, folks! There's only one Kal and he's not the kind to mess around with multiple screen names. He's a very nice, intelligent man who I really doubt needs to slide in comments and hide behind another persona.

JohnD Aug 5th, 2003 06:02 AM

As I recall, many folks other than Kal were listed in this somewhat hysterical post complanining about recomendations for traveling to a certain town/city in California (a post which I can't find anymore). Furthermore, let me take this opportunity to extend my sincere apology to Kal for any perceived disparagement. #-o

dln Aug 5th, 2003 06:06 AM

iceeu2, Scarlett is on a French adventure and will be back soon. I wish Kal would post again--love his references to Mrs. Kal--too funny!

Suzie Aug 5th, 2003 07:04 AM

While I've been on vacation for two weeks I was astounded to return just yesterday to find no new posts from Kal since his last post in middish July. Where in the world is Kal?

FainaAgain Aug 5th, 2003 08:11 AM

And while searching for Kal... where is Waldo?

JohnD Aug 5th, 2003 09:43 AM

Reply to FainaAgain: I found Waldo ! He is posting here :The most over rated resort area you have been to? (It's a poll-everyone should contribute!)
:S-

FainaAgain Aug 5th, 2003 09:59 AM

LOLLLLLLLLL JohnD you even made me read that post!!!!! And yes, somebody really uses this nickname Waldo!!!!!!! Thank you so much for my laugh of the day! Sorry can't help you with Kal.

buckeyemom Aug 5th, 2003 10:02 AM

I think he posted something about having knee surgery. He posts on the Wine O's thread on the "other topics" forum.

margot55 Aug 5th, 2003 07:22 PM

>:D< Well, my goodness, you guys!!! Sheesh...aren't we allowed to just be out and about enjoying those lazy crazy hazy days of summer?!((#)) ((B)) Ah well, it's nice to be missed! I can personally vouch for the fact that Kal is doing fine, according to e-mails we've exchanged, seems to be on the mend (I can tell he's fine just from all the ranting and raving he's doing over the California recall circus!!!) As for me, iceeu2, upon our return from Kauai ((r)), we were the guests of honor at the 25th anniversary ((l)) party family members threw for us, then had out-of-town visitors, yada yada yada. Have planned an overnight jaunt up to Saratoga in a couple of weeks, and have booked our flights for our late Feb./early March return to Kauai. So, in a nutshell...I'm still very much here, thanks for asking, and hope you're all having a great summer. "See ya in the funny papers!" :(|)

MelissaHI Aug 5th, 2003 10:19 PM

are you sure kal didn't wander into the cocktail party on the europe board? Oh, wait, maybe I had one too many bellinis and started hallucinating.

Kal Aug 6th, 2003 07:23 AM

Alohhhhaaaa all,
Thx for all the off-board contacts informing me of my pre-mature demise.
:-o
Nice to actually be missed. :'(
It would take Mrs Kal a few days to figger' out I'm missing since I'm always so quiet and basically inconspicous! :^o

Been very busy at work. b-(

Plus, since Arnold dropped out of the race, I'm now running (limping) for Governor of California. What could my campaign slogan be? Hmmm. "2 wine bottles in every pot?"
And then with my new knee, I'll try out for Punter with the Pittsburgh Steelers?

Knee surgery tomorrow.
<See,Margot, you NEVER listen![-X > Just a "minor" scoping. We hope!
Luckily, the new surgery center is located a few doors down from my new fave wine shop! ((D))
Suuuz, Secret Cellars rocks!

iceeu2, It's "Italian Chicken Soup"...Red wine! Italian gravey is meat sauce....yummmmmm.

JohnD-one of the reasons I wasn't paying the usual close attention here is because I was being accused of doing the SF/SJ thing. I gave up that thread long ago.
All I know is the times we've been to SF, since '63, we've seen it all and we still feel more threatened walking down Sacto's K St mall around 6:00pm than we ever did in SF's Union Square, so to each their own.

Have I thrown a few "barbs" at SJ, YEP, but always under my own ID.

At first on Fodor's, I was accused of being a Kauaian travel agent. I don't know what is worse? #-O

Can't wait to hear from RichPa.
145 mo' days for us!

Ccolor-Thx. Where do I mail your beads?
;)
Margot-NYC in May is nice, no? ((^))

MelsHi, I'm CRAVING Loco Moco!!! As well as a muffaletta, deep dish pizza and a walkaway shrimp cup.
Why is it you're always the hungriest when they tell you nothing 12hrs. before surgery?:@)

dln-I could write a book on "My Life With Mrs Kal". If I wasn't married to her, I should would like to be able to have her as a friend. :-X

If anyone ever wants to drop me an
off-board line, feel free. [email protected]

"Safe, Confidential and Clean! Sanitized for you protection!"((Y))

Kal "One Man-One Name-A Legend in His Own Mind" Kahuna :)>-

Suzie Aug 6th, 2003 08:17 AM

Hey Kal, glad to hear you've visited Secret Cellars. Wine tasting there? I glanced at it yesterday as I made my getaway from the miniature golfing I was NAGGED into doing. My question is, what were those grown men doing golfing through windmills without the required young-uns?

So many choices for governor now perhaps your slogan IS the best but then again there is Larry Flynt!

Kal Aug 6th, 2003 08:36 AM

Suuuuuz, I may try the Barrell Tasting on 8-14. Since I bought about 5 bottles of wine there last week, I was given a free ticket, sooooo.

Flynt for Gov? Hmmmmmm. Think of all the "First Ladies" in Sacto!!!

So far I've been able to dodge ANY event held at the Golf/Splash place.
As a friend used to describe "Chuck E Cheese Pizza Parlors" applies here..."the closest thing to a living Hell on Earth". ((6))
Kal

Suzie Aug 6th, 2003 08:47 AM

Kal LOL,
It could be a true hell on earth if I was forced to go during the 100+ degree days that are thankfully gone for now!!!

FIL had one knee replaced last fall he's doing so much better. Prior to that he did have some scraping and other oogy-type wording done to him. Didn't last and led to the need for replacement. Hope he has the other one done. Improved his life. Hope your outcome is good!

JohnD Aug 6th, 2003 08:55 AM

Hey Kal, good to hear from you ! Sorry to learn about the knee, b-( I feel your pain though, as I have had a scoping myself after a skiing mishap :O in Vermont-did my share of ACL damage. Hope everything comes out OK ((#)) !

Kal Aug 6th, 2003 09:05 AM

Thx, JD.
Fortunately, no ACL involved. Said all ligaments were stable.
Wish I could say the same about my mental health at times! 8-}

Kal

OliveOyl Aug 6th, 2003 09:07 AM

Good luck tomorrow Kal! Mrs Kal will be right there with TLC so enjoy it while it lasts and use it to the hilt!! :) My dh had a torn meniscus repair in Feb...they gave him crutches to leave the surgery center..he tried to use them for two steps, figured they were too much work, so put them under his arm (heck, he'd paid for them in the cost) and WALKED out. Hope yours will be no worse. Sweet dreams tomorrow.

Kal Aug 6th, 2003 09:15 AM

OO, Thx!
"TLC" Totally Lacking Concern? :-?

I call her Nurse Wratchet <sp> whenever I have an injury. Has the compassion of a rattler with a tooth ache!

She has gotten better since she almost died about 5yrs. ago due to a misdiagnosed sneaky torn appendix. A very close one. ;;)

We don't know what we'd do without each other....'cuz nobody elese would have us!!! :-))

ellen_griswold Aug 6th, 2003 09:18 AM

Hey Kalmeister, i missed ya, too! All the best tomorrow; be sure you're on good terms with your anesthetist! ;) xo

Suzie Aug 6th, 2003 09:23 AM

Hey Kal we know all about those sneaky appendix at our house too. Not everyone exhibets the same signs. Now my son thinks everyone should have it removed as a precaution. His scar is so tiny it only bothered him last summer until he noticed a really cute girl with the same scar holding her hand over it. ;) or it could have been the bikini he noticed, hmmmmmm

margot55 Aug 6th, 2003 11:10 AM

Hey Kal, whaddya want from me??? I have to listen every work day "for a living" - OK, so every once in awhile, in "real life" I tune out - so SUE me!!! ;) But seriously...lots of luck tomorrow, try not to give those people attending you TOO hard of a time, and yes, NYC in May (usually a lovely month, except for this year!) for Mrs. Kal's ((^)) celebration is a splendid idea whose time has come! ..."Break a leg" tomorrow, eh fella!!! ;) ((L))

iceeu2 Aug 6th, 2003 11:32 AM

Good luck tomorrow Kal. Glad to see you got everyone back in the groove again. Sure have missed your humor.

As for Mrs. Kal being nurse Rachet....well, it has to do with this man thing....they can be oh so whiney!! She probably ran out of cheese to go with the whine!!

I'll tip one for you on Friday. Myself and 5 of my college buddies are going away to celebrate meeting each other 30 years ago.

In all honesty, good luck, and be sure to POST your results!!

Barbara Aug 6th, 2003 01:07 PM

Kal, Hope everything goes as planned tomorrow. Be sure to file your papers in time...that "two bottles in every pot" sounds like a big improvement! Pittsburgh Steelers?!?!?

bluefan Aug 6th, 2003 02:14 PM

Best of luck from me as well Kal!!!

I was wondering where you were on this Hawaii "bored" as well...ain't the same w/o u pal!!! ((R))

Save the knee for your next Kauai trip instead of the Steelers. Heinz Field turns all kickers into ketchup!
8-)

Kal Aug 6th, 2003 03:31 PM

Ahhhhh...QUITTIN' TIME!! Almost CUTTIN' TIME!!! :-((

Margot-You KNOW what I want! O:) Yep. A bottle of free "Silver" that I will collect in 2004!

El_grissy, I'm starting to self-medicate as we type!
Nahhhh...last time I did something like that was about 22 yrs. ago when I pounded down a few pitchers of beer and a shot of Jack before going in for a vasectomy.
Doctor told me afterwards he never saw anybody bleed as much as I did during the operation...and here I thought all the nurses were coming in to take a look at my ....welllll...nevermind! :-"

Suuz-Mrs Kal's scar is down from her "who who" to the top of her "ho ho" line. They didn't know what was up as all tests, CAT/CT, MRI etc were negatory so it was basic exploratory surgery! Cut or she dies! Phew!
So her scar at one time looked like the beginning of the Panama Canal. My sis has been an RN for over 30yrs now and she was squeamish when she saw all the "staples".

Other than a few meniscus tears and floating objects he says my knees are in good shape for a big fat guy! :@)

iceeu2-Tip :)>- . I'm thirsty!

Barb-If I don't run, I'm thinking of voting for the comedian Gallhagher! "A smashed watermelon in every pot".
"Vote for me-At least I know I'm stupid".

B'fan-I hear ya, bragh. I had to extend our Kauai visit this trip due to the NFL Playoffs over Sat/Sunday. We now fly home on a Monday. Steelers will ((U)) again.

Speaking of missing people, every time I think of New Orleans, I wonder what ever happend to that dear sweet gal from NOLA, Meg?
And all the helpful DC people, "the lisas" or alisa?

Life does go on. Dammit! >:D<
Growing older but not UP! ((B))((B))
Kuttin Kal

ccolor Aug 6th, 2003 05:45 PM

And I thought you weren't that much of a Buffett fan Kal - "Growing older but not up" is a staple!! You been scammin' me this whole time and I shoulda realized that anybody that looks that good in an Hawaiian shirt has to be part Parrothead.

Thinking of you, buddy - we'll be talkin' before N'Awlins!

orchid Aug 6th, 2003 06:57 PM

Good luck and very best wishes, I enjoy your comments about Kauai. I, too, love Hawaii.

Betsy Aug 8th, 2003 07:30 PM

Holey Moley, fella! What on earth WERE those pre-surgery meds? Welcome back to the site! It's sure as heck been dull around here.

I was also accused of having a dual (or more) identity on the site. I consider it an honor that I was on the same list as you!

PamSF Aug 9th, 2003 10:44 AM

Kal~two days post op and I hope you're still medicating for pain. Given your sis is an RN she has probably advised the same. Get better. Someone's gotta run this great state of ours!

MelissaHI Aug 9th, 2003 11:23 AM

:O OK so Kal....what was the fuss about, again? Knee surgery...........or a new tattoo?? hee hee :D

Hope you are feeling better. I'll eat a loco moco tomorrow and raise my fork to you! :*

GoTravel Aug 9th, 2003 11:49 AM

Kal, hope you mend quickly and enjoy the meds!(>

Kal Aug 12th, 2003 08:05 AM

Back in the saddle. :)>-
Doc found some addtl. old damage and some stuff he didn't expect. Not serious and I had my first glass of wine last night.
I had a pretty good nurse take care of me during the past few days of recovery. And if Mrs Kal finds out, I'm a dead man! :))

Ahhhhhhhhh.

Scarlett Aug 12th, 2003 08:15 AM

YAY \:D/ Happy to hear you are fine Kal!

Scarlett Aug 12th, 2003 08:18 AM

PS*
Thank you iceeu2 for noticing my absence :) unless it was a relief to have the boards not so cluttered up with Scarlett-isms ~
dln had it right, my darlin Yankee took me away and we had a lovely French adventure..now here we are back again! Ready for a new one!
((F))

iceeu2 Aug 12th, 2003 09:08 AM

Thanks for reporting in Kal and glad to hear you are well enough for a glass of wine.
Scarlett, yes, I have missed the Scarlett-isms!! Was it you that was going to Atlantic City and concerned about dressing properly???
If it was....did you go???and did you dress according to all of the instructions from this board??
Anybody heard from RichnPA?

Scarlett Aug 12th, 2003 10:20 AM

LOL, no, I haven't been to Atlantic City :)
We just returned from a week in Montreal. Tres jolie and all that stuff! and BTW- I was dressed quite well at all times:)

TravelerGina Aug 12th, 2003 11:12 AM

Scarlett: Sounds like you had a good time in Montreal.

I live in Michigan and one of the best things is that, if I can't get to France very often, I can always go "next door" to Canada for a little French fix!

JohnD Aug 12th, 2003 01:40 PM

Kal,
Glad to hear your back in the saddle again! With regard to that biking quest through wine country was that to be powered by manpower or horsepower? Suggest you rev up your wheels they are after you (and Suzie too) again according to this post:"In the USA, I narrowed down to this.."
I guess some people have too much time on their hands. :?
