From Carolina to Buffalo ...

Are you guys ready for *Hurricanes* .... if you know what I mean??? :p

GO 'CANES!!! :-d

BuffaloGirl May 16th, 2006 05:32 AM

Bonnie, Bonnie, Bonnie........We don't get hurricanes in Buffalo, just remnants.....if you know what I mean??? :S-

I guarantee your 'canes will blow into Buffalo and lose strength quickly, just like a real one.

GO SABRES!!!!!!!!!!

bonniebroad May 16th, 2006 06:00 AM

BuffaloGirl, BuffaloGirl, BuffaloGirl .... I just don't think so! :-d

You know, our teams play so much alike ... this should be fun, fun, fun! ;;)

GO HURRICANES!!! :-d

SAnParis May 16th, 2006 06:09 AM

I reside in Charlotte but have been a Sabres fan for a very long time. Go Sabres !! & of course I'll root for the winner in the finals.

BuffaloGirl May 16th, 2006 02:53 PM

Bonnie, enjoy the game Saturday!

LET'S GO, BUFFALO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

KathyK May 16th, 2006 06:04 PM

I have tickets to games 3 and 6 in Buffalo. Let's go Sabres!! I hope that all of the Buffalonians who have moved to the Carolinas go to cheer on the Sabres and wipe out any home ice advantage for the Hurricanes.

bonniebroad May 16th, 2006 06:27 PM

KathyK, don't get your hopes up there ... You haven't been in a "Hurricanes house" here! The loudest in the NHL, I understand. We'll be nice to the (handful of) Buffalo transplants, but ....... you'll never hear them! :D (The great Martin Brodeur said last week that it was really difficult to play here! :-d )

It should be a fabulous series ... I'm really looking forward to it! ;;)

BuffaloGirl May 16th, 2006 06:30 PM

KathyK, you lucky girl!

garyt22 May 16th, 2006 06:32 PM

Yes Bonnie, I know what you mean...

In Buffalo, we get BLIZZARDS... BLIZZARDS equals ICE... ICE equals FREEZE... FREEZE equals HOCKEY...

In Carolina, you get Hurricanes... Hurricanes equal WIND BLOWING... WIND BLOWING equals SLUSH... SLUSH is hard to skate on....

Therefore.... SABRES WIN!!!!!!!!

I know that's what you meant...

BuffaloGirl May 16th, 2006 06:40 PM

Bonnie, I don't know.........I think KathyK and I would argue with you on that claim!

Buffalo and hockey are synonymous. It's a way of life here!!!!

Raleigh and hockey? Sigh.

You are right...this should be FUN!

:-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

KathyK May 16th, 2006 06:50 PM

Bonnie, I predict more than a handful of Buffalo transplants. You'd be surprised how loyal Buffalonians are. And what's with the Hurricanes limiting sales of tickets to buyers only in N.C. and border states?

bonniebroad May 16th, 2006 07:32 PM

KathyK, the only thing I've heard regarding play-off tickets is that people who put down deposits toward season tickets for next year get priority on the best seats for the play-offs. Otherwise, there is no restriction that I'm aware of.

BuffaloGirl, actually it's the national broadcasters who come here (and the teams themselves) who've proclaimed the Hurricanes' house the loudest in the NHL, not me. But you're right about it not being hockey country here ... people are just getting used to having a hockey team, and they're far more interested in college basketball and NASCAR! BUT ........ every play-off game has been a sell-out, and the fan base is growing. And, you see, we know how to make some noise here ... think ACC basketball!!! :-d

Now if I can just get my husband to buy me that Rod Brind'Amour jersey ($289) for my birthday ... :p

GO 'CANES!!! :-)

KathyK May 16th, 2006 07:46 PM

Bonnie, According to the Buffalo News, there was a message on the Carolina Hurricanes web site to buy tickets for the first two games as follows: "Sales to this event will be restricted to residents of bordering states, with residency based on credit card address. Orders by residents outside of this area will be canceled without notice and refunds given."

bonniebroad May 16th, 2006 08:06 PM

KathyK, it isn't on their website now, and I didn't notice it when I searched for tickets a couple of times since the weekend. I haven't heard anything like that so I can't comment ...

BuffaloGirl May 18th, 2006 05:52 PM

Bonniebroad....word has it that Buffalo fans were able to buy tix to the Raleigh home games....Impossible here, because they sold out in 14 minutes!!!

Are you in the mood for a "friendly" bet? I believe (in a previous post) you asked me what sponge candy is. I'll send you some if we lose......... are you game?

Good luck Hurricanes, but............ GO SABRES!!! :-) :-)

kcapuani May 18th, 2006 05:58 PM

I just had to chime in - Bonnie, sponge candy is so heavenly, you should definitely consider a friendly wager. What could you send to Buffalogirl if the Hurricanes lose though? Barbecue sauce maybe?

Go sabres!

KathyK May 18th, 2006 06:05 PM

Sponge candy is THE favorite of every female in my family (My Mom, her daughters and grandaughters). While I hope that Buffalo Girl doesn't have to pay her bet, I hope that some day Bonnie gets to experience it. Go Sabres! I have to go to a bridal shower on Saturday from 12-3 and am trying to figure out how to leave before the 2:00 faceoff.

bonniebroad May 18th, 2006 06:36 PM

Okay, BuffaloGirl!!! You're ON! Will let you know what I'll send you if .................. well, you know :-< ................. but that would NEVER HAPPEN! :-d

I'm going to the Yadkin Valley Wine Festival Saturday afternoon, so will set my DVR for the game, then try to get back to Raleigh without accidentally hearing what happened!!! (Well, of course, the 'Canes will win .... I just don't know by HOW MUCH! :D )

Be creative, KathyK! You'll think of something ... :-)

GO 'CANES!!!!!!!!!! ;;)

bonniebroad May 19th, 2006 05:17 AM

BuffaloGirl, as to what I'll send you from Carolina ... do you look good in red and white? ;;)

Have you started packing that Sponge candy for *moi* yet??? :-d

bonniebroad May 19th, 2006 06:01 AM

Yikes! What I meant to say above, BuffaloGirl, was IF I were going to send you something, which, of course, I will not need to ... :p

Here's a link to an excellent article posted on espn.com (though you won't agree with the last few sentences, I think you'll agree it's a good article about the teams ...):

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/playof...amp;id=2448988

cmcfong May 19th, 2006 08:43 AM

Bonnie, will you be eating at the Festival? If not, Shelton Winery has a nice lunch at the Harvest Grill and Wolf's Lair in Dobson does as well. Have fun at the event, I hope your weather is good...we have sure been getting the rain for the last two weeks!

Diana May 19th, 2006 08:52 AM

Bonnie, We went out to eat last Sat. night and there was a limo out front with Hurricanes flags on it.

Inside, there was a VIP room with several people with 'Canes jackets on.

I felt sorry for them later that night when I found out that was the only game in the series that they lost, and it appeared to be a big night out for 'Canes bigwigs.

They are a client of my husband's, but he has only to one game - enjoyed it immensely.

I'm sure you WON'T have to do this, but just in case, you could send peanut brittle, Duplin Wine Cellars wine, boiled peanuts, Moon Pie, pecan log, or maybe half a hog! ;)

ncgrrl May 19th, 2006 09:49 AM

I'm seeing a lot more Canes flags and car magnets. And I know Bonnie will enjoy the sponge candy.

Bonnie, radio station 102.9 has the games. I know it's not tv, but maybe you could listen to the game on the way home from your trip.

Rachel May 19th, 2006 11:01 AM

Will be travelin' (we have to keep this travel related) to my family room on Saturday to watch the Sabres win! Have tickets to game 6 and something tells me it's gonna take the Sabres 6 or 7 games to win the series.. It should be a great series and whoever wins has home ice advantage for the Cup!

Hey Buffalo Girls---any of you interested in playing hockey? I played a few years ago and its a blast but I can't round up enuf women to play. I played on a mostly men's team and its a little too rough for me, especially when you have to get up and go to work the next day.

Go Sabres

KathyK May 19th, 2006 01:52 PM

Rachel, Sorry, I have never considered hockey, although I do like to play and watch sports. I'm too old at this point to take up something like hockey!

BuffaloGirl May 19th, 2006 04:25 PM

Do I look good in red or white? Bonnie, you should have been rooting for the NJ Devils....I can't help but think that you are one yourself!!!!

Sponge candy is so delectable. You can only get it here, so chances are you'll never experience the little piece of Heaven that it is.....but perhaps, in the true Buffalonian spirit of kindness, I'll send you some anyway :-)

Special note to KathyK and kcapuani: BuffaloGirl to sponge candy is like a fly to cow poop....I've been known to eat it for breakfast! I think Watson's has THE best sponge candy. Really!!!

Rachel: Thanks, but no thanks. I like to ice skate, but play hockey? Not that my butt couldn't use the workout. I broke my leg six months ago and I'm still having a hard time with it. Sigh. I wish I could join you.

Bonnie, have a wonderful time wine tasting tomorrow.

GO SABRES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bonniebroad May 20th, 2006 04:43 AM

Happy HURRICANES-BEAT-THE-SABRES Saturday to everyone in Buffalo-land!!! :-d

I won't be going to the Wine Festival, as one of our little group that planned to go has gotten sick, unfortunately. So now I WILL be in front of my wide-screen, dressed all in red-and-white, and ready to rumble at 2:00 PM.

Watch out, Buffalo, there's a HURRICANE(S) coming!!! ;;)

GO HURRICANES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)

bonniebroad May 20th, 2006 09:54 AM

Oh, yes, BuffaloGirl, speaking of *moi* being devilish, in 2002 when the 'Canes beat Montreal in the semi-finals, I wrapped a gift with the Sports section from the Raleigh News & Observer, (which was, of course, plastered with big old shots of the 'Canes in their Red & White) and mailed it to a friend in Montreal who is a RABID Canadiens fan! :D (Yes, she did laugh, she really did ... :-d )

wsm2004 May 20th, 2006 12:46 PM

Buffalo 1
Carolina 0
Three more!
Go Buffalo!

KathyK May 20th, 2006 01:07 PM

1 down, 3 to go. LETS GO BUFFALO!!!!!!

kcapuani May 20th, 2006 01:20 PM

Looks like it's going to be a Sabres sweep to me... :)

bonniebroad May 20th, 2006 03:20 PM

Giving credit where credit is due ... Congratulations, Sabres ... (But we'll see you Monday ........... You can have JUST ONE!!! :-d )

BuffaloGirl May 20th, 2006 05:31 PM

Buffalo Sabres: =D>

Carolina Hurricanes: :((

BuffaloGirl to bonniebroad: @};-

GO SABRES!!! ((R))

bonniebroad May 20th, 2006 05:44 PM

Thank you, BuffaloGirl! ;;) Your rose, along with two Margaritas, a big glass of wine and a filet mignon really cheered me up ... :-d (I am happy that you're happy ... but I have to admit that I hope you're not THIS happy Monday night! :p )

BuffaloGirl May 20th, 2006 05:56 PM

You should see me do the "happy dance!"

BuffaloGirl May 22nd, 2006 05:54 PM

Scooby Doo: "Ruh roh, Raggy!"
Velma: Jinkies!
Shaggy: Zoinks!
Daphne: "Jeepers!"

Carolina Hurricanes: ((Y))

Buffalo Sabres: #-O

BuffaloGirl: ((U))((D))((N)) X( ((B))

(I have to get one dig in...the 'Canes should have been called on tripping at least 8 times but weren't!!! Hmph.)

The 'Canes are coming to our house next.....GO SABRES!!!!!

cmcfong May 22nd, 2006 06:13 PM

Go Canes!!!!

bonniebroad May 22nd, 2006 06:24 PM

CAROLINA HURRICANES 4

BUFFALO SABRES 3

:-d :-d :-d :-d :-d

Now, now, now, BuffaloGirl! You are seeing things!!! :p (Actually, I thought the *bad* calls were pretty evenly split tonight ... but maybe we're all guilty of only seeing what the OTHER team does! 8-| :-) )

For you ... @};- ((b))

I thought both teams played pretty brilliantly, really. Buffalo is the best team we've played in ages; I will give them that! OMG, the hitting tonight! Can you imagine how black and blue they'll ALL be tomorrow??? =-O

((L)) GO 'CANES! ((L))

KathyK May 22nd, 2006 06:25 PM

I can't wait for game 3 (I have tickets). I hope the officials bring their whistles out for some Carolina penalties. Somehow they missed quite a few tonight. Carolina played a good game, so congratulations to them. They are about to enter a very hostile environment. LETS GO BUFFALO!

BuffaloGirl May 23rd, 2006 04:01 AM

Things are definitely heating up, Bonnie. They were all pretty aggressive last night. Of course, my husband and son were wrestling on the couch between periods, so they're probably black and blue, too. :-) (Boys, big and small, just gotta horse around).

KathyK...hostile??? Sabres fans aren't hostile, just dedicated and spirited. Yeahhhh, that's it. :$
