Rant: my TV is full of Simpsons: Ashley Simpson, Bart Simpson, Jessica Simpson, Homer Simpson...

Joselyn, have you tried MSM? They sell it in every drug store OTC.

Rant: sorry for everybody in the hurricane zone

Bennnie: hugs...

Rave: everybody at work seems to be so quiet, I asked, they said it's Fri the 13 LOL

Rant/Rave: airfare went down, AA won't credit my CC, but promised to mail a voucher

Rant: no plans for this weekend

Rave: yesterday volunteered at a Thank-a-Thon, we were calling people who made a donation to the charity just to thank them. Wonderful reaction from them once they understood we are not asking for more!

LoriNY Aug 13th, 2004 08:46 AM

Missjanna and jasper - another LIRR rider here from Massapequa!
Rant: They want to raise the fare again!!! MY salary should go up so much!

missjanna Aug 13th, 2004 08:53 AM

Lori, don't tell me that!! I'm already budgeting the $250 monthly pass I gotta pay because I'm in Zone 10 and that's with the $100 I get in Transit Cheks!! Augh!!
They're also talking about hiking up the fare on the MTA trains and buses again to $2.50 because they're pleading poverty. Didn't we already prove they couldn't justify the last fare hike??

phitnessphan Aug 13th, 2004 08:57 AM

I love this thread!

Rant: Hurricanes! Everyone, stay safe!
Rave: Leaving tomorrow for Jamaica
Rant: Yesterday's Brazilian- ouch!
Rave: lost 27 lbs. in 3 mos.
Rave: Will be able to wear new bikini
on vacation

jasper Aug 13th, 2004 08:58 AM

uh-oh! can complaining about the train be travel related? ;) i live in patchogue, and take the ronkonoma train. i can't believe they want to raise the fare again. for what?? how much higher can it get???

Ryan Aug 13th, 2004 09:05 AM

"How much higher can it get?"

Depends on what happens with any attempts to reign in medical costs. The cost of medical coverage for employers has been skyrocketing. Until some significant reform happens, get used to fare increases to cover the LIRR/MTA's budget problems.

Jocelyn_P Aug 13th, 2004 09:21 AM

Faina,

What's MSM?

FainaAgain Aug 13th, 2004 09:28 AM

Joselyn, a quick google for msm gave me this site:

http://www.msm.com/ArticleDetail.cfm?AID=19

I remember from prior searches when I was looking for herbal help with arthritis MSM was especially recommended for people with knee problems.

I tried not for knees, for other joints, felt improvement.

Rave: Oldest son's family's cruise missed Charley in Grand Cayman by 1 day, ship was not diverted from its Mexican ports either.

Rant: They are all going to end up in Tampa aproximately 1 day after the last of the storm is over, and will be caught in the aftermath getting back home to O'Hare. (Just a small rant compared to those in Florida that may have to clean up in a much bigger way.)

Rave: Bears won in overtime last night.

Rant: Game didn't really count and 11 penalities in first half stunk.

Rave: It's Friday and the weekend holds sunny gardening weather, with tons to pick- and all looking goregous/
at its peak with the cool rains we've had. Perfect to get my mom's wheelchair out there to get her in the swing of things.

Rant: Won't get to go to my place in Michigan and get on the lake this weekend although it's 80 degrees and sunny there. No extra time off from work either as semester starts in one more week.

Really don't have any true rants, just wish I could divide myself in two because I have to be "here" and love "there" too.

iamq Aug 13th, 2004 10:18 AM

Rave: D'ya ever just look around at your house and go, "I love this place"? As much a I like to get away, I just love it at home too. I feel very fortunate.

Rant: The Back to School ads (I'm a teacher).

capri767 Aug 13th, 2004 10:30 AM

Rant-being involved with a pilot
Rave-the great temps the South has been getting, usually August is terrible

tpatricco Aug 13th, 2004 10:35 AM

iamq, know exactly what you mean! I've had that feeling - it's so good! My house is not my dream house, it has many projects on it's list and we are slowly making the changes we want, but I love it just the same. Maybe it's because I love who lives there too...and that's what makes it HOME! :)

annesherrod Aug 13th, 2004 10:50 AM

Happy Friday!!
Rave- the COOL temperatures!!
Rave- we take my oldest daughter to her first year of college tomorrow.

Rant- it is a 12 hour drive to Dallas to take her to college.:(
Rant - now I am broke and cannot afford any vacations..But it is for the BEST cause..

Statia Aug 13th, 2004 10:52 AM

Happy Friday, Everyone!

Lori, I hope everything goes well for your friend.

Bonnie, way to go, girl!

Bennnie, sorry to hear about your dad.

kcapuani, happy anniversary!

Rant: Charlie threatening all my Fodorite friends in Florida.

Rant: Have been so busy at work today that I haven't had time to check in with my Fodorite friends.

Rave: I'm now off and the weekend is here.

Rant: I have so much to get done this weekend that there won't be much time for fun.

Stay safe all you Floridian Fodorites and let us know how you're faring when you can.

GoTravel Aug 13th, 2004 11:45 AM

Jocelyn, NEW SHOES!

If you are running, you should buy new running shoes every six weeks. Running tears down the shoe so then your knees, hips, and back must absorb the shock which is why your knees hurt. Try new shoes before you go to the doctor.

I taught aerobics for 5 years and this was always the culprit. I never once had a student with an actual knee problem.

Rave: New Jerseys Gov. I don't think he needs to step down but I feel awful for his wife. Who wants to bet she was the last to know he was gay?

Rant: This storm.

caribtraveler Aug 13th, 2004 11:57 AM

GoTravel: You do realize NJ taxpayers paid for the six-figure salary of the boyfriend, right? He's a poet from Israeln yet gets a job as homeland security advisor and because he's not american he cannot get briefings from the fbi. You still don't think McGreevey should step down?

Jocelyn_P Aug 13th, 2004 12:08 PM

GT: AHA! New shoes! Thanks!

GoTravel Aug 13th, 2004 12:16 PM

carib, every state employee in NJ makes six figures :-D and I don't think he should step down because of his personal life.

His appointment is a whole other story. Boo hiss, he should step down.

Jocelyn, glad I could help.

razzledazzle Aug 13th, 2004 12:17 PM

JocelynP:
Rave:New shoes helped me alot!
BUT,
go to a store that specializes in
FIT- a place that has trained sales people that will watch you walk.
(Not one of those huge chains.)
I started with
the ortho pod who wanted me to get
a shot in the spine and I said whoa,Physical Therapy first.

OK! My PT sent me off to said shoe store and I got fitted with "motion control" cross trainers
(they primarily support your arch).
My hubby got fitted for shoes that helped with his heel pain,BTW
Next, the PT taught me these really cool lunge type excercises for core
strengthing and some other strengthing
excersises I can do on a Bow-flex.

Well, in 10 days i noticed a HUGE
difference-(and I have 3 flights of stairs so I know what you mean!)
I didn't tolerate glucosomine or MSM.
I switched to Omega 3 (fish oil) and
have noticed much improvement!

Good Luck!
R5

caribtraveler Aug 13th, 2004 12:21 PM

GoTravel: I don't think anyone is saying he should step down because of his personal life. I think people are saying is that he should step down because he used his position to appoint a boyfriend with no qualification and had NJ taxpayers, like myself, paid for it. :-)
