Freaky Friday rants and raves 8-13-04

rant: The coldest summer in recent history. I have had the furnace on for three days...day and night!!!

rave: The price for the furnace fuel oil has not gone up yet.

rant: The price will go up soon

rave: I really do like winter. \:D/

Scarlett Aug 13th, 2004 04:31 AM

Good morning, jor & everyone!

I kinda like winter too, now that we don't have it. :)

All I can think of today, are my friends in Tampa and that area.
So my rant is Hurricanes, big ugly destructive hurricanes.
Stay Safe!!

LoriNY Aug 13th, 2004 04:43 AM

Rant: Another wet, damp, dreary weekend. But nothing like our friends in Florida are experiencing. Best wishes and prayers to all in the sunshine (?) state!
Rant: Very close friend is having major surgery today for an aneurism (sp).
Rave: it's a weekend!

Ryan Aug 13th, 2004 04:43 AM

Rant: As a New Jersey resident, I don't care that the Governor came out of the closet. (That's an issue for he and his wife to resolve.) But, the fact that he placed the man, who was shockingly unqualified, in a position of responsibility as the State's Homeland security director - in a state that was the base of operation for the first attack on the World Trade Center - is criminal.

Rave: My dinner at Felidia on East 58th Street. Fantastic northern Italian in a nice townhouse setting. Go with the 5 course tasting menu. (And try the Osso Buco.)

fun2travel Aug 13th, 2004 04:54 AM

Rave: Heading to a fun getaway weekend with no kids.

Rave: Seeing concert tonight

Rant: The concert is outdoors and I may have to wear my parka!

Rant: Son has "3 a day" football practices and is exhausted.

Here goes:

RAVE: Lost my 13th pound on Friday the 13th! :-) How funny! :-d Over seven weeks, still walking, still losing! Whew....... ;;)

RANT: Friends and family dealing with the storms. Stay safe, please!

RAVE: Granddaughters! They're the best.......

RAVE: Friends here who gave us advice for our trip to Inner Harbor/Aquarium coming up Monday. :-)

RAVE: This cool, cool summer here in Raleigh! A real, rare gift!!!

Have a good weekend, all!

hibiscushouse Aug 13th, 2004 05:10 AM

Rave: I heard from my brother in Key West about an hour ago. He's fine and the hurricane is passing to the West of them. Some strong winds and the boat is rockin' and rollin', but he's just fine.

Rant: Charley's coming our way and it's not tomorrow yet.

Jocelyn_P Aug 13th, 2004 05:29 AM

Rant: Hurricanes.

Rave: This forum (among others, I'm sure) keeps everyone in touch during the storms.

Rave: I've been jogging on the treadmill for the last 4 weeks (not consecutively :) ) and my clothes are fitting looser.

Rant: my knees are killing me. I'm not that old--what do I need to do???

ronkala Aug 13th, 2004 05:30 AM

Rave: It's Friday the 13th

Rant: Jor, furnace fuel is up. $1.579 per gallon in the Northern Shenandoah Valley. $1.529 cash. A big increase over last year.

MarthaT Aug 13th, 2004 05:36 AM

Rant: The hurricane is coming

Rave: I'm getting off work at 11 am because of it. YaaHoo.

Ryan Aug 13th, 2004 05:44 AM

Jocelyn,
In regards to your knees, go see an orthopedic specialist. I've had problems for several years with my knees related to activities like skiing. The guy I went to indicated I had some cartilage damage that didn't require surgery but could be helped through some knee strengthening exercise.

I have friends who swear by the herbal remedy Glucosamine as treatment for problems they've had with their knee. I tried it and it made by knee hurt even more.

The best advice, go to an orthopediac specialist.

caribtraveler Aug 13th, 2004 05:52 AM

Since I haven't ranted in a good long time.
Rant1: Gotta work all weekend.
Rant2: NJ drivers who don't know the rules of the 4-way stop sign.
Rant3: NJ drivers who don't use turn signals. Shame they paid so much $ for their car and it didn't come with turn signals.
Rant4: Politicians, whatever their party. They're all the same.
Hope at least you all will have a nice weekend.

jasper Aug 13th, 2004 05:55 AM

hi all! >:D<

rave: it's the weekend!;;)

rave: plans to see some friends and grandma this weekend.

rave: things are going well at work ((Y))

rave: counting down the days to little road trip to vermont!

rant: can the summer be over this soon?? :-o

rant: muggy, hurricane weather on long island. ((u))

:D

bennnie Aug 13th, 2004 06:03 AM

Rave: Going to the Red Sox game tonight and staying over in Boston!!!!

Rant: Its going to rain. Not enough to cancel the game but enough to cause a long rain delay. The worst of both worlds.

Sad (can't call it a rant because I past being angry): Five years ago today my dad passed away from a rare cancer that was diagnosed way too late. Still miss him every day.

Rave: My mom whose health was always an issue is stronger and healthier than ever. I never thought she would live 5 years longer than my dad and from the looks of things she's got at least 5 more in her.

mikemo Aug 13th, 2004 06:16 AM

rant: Nature's destruction - hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, wildfires.

rave: mild temps and new SEER 19 A/C have electric bills running about 35% of last year even after three rate increases.

rant: next round of H/O insurance premium increases to pay for rant 1.

rave: Caravaggio to Dali at the Kimbell in Ft Worth.

rant: proposed increases in local property tax rates and decrease in H/O exemptions despite a "down" local economy.

mrwunrfl Aug 13th, 2004 06:28 AM

Sad: with bennie

Rant: more rain coming to D.C.

Rave: am going to Chicago tomorrow and the forecast is 70F and mostly sunny for Arlington Heights, Illinois.

Rave: world class horse racing at Arlington Park tomorrow. The Kentucky Derby is interesting, but the Arlington Million Stakes and Beverly D Stakes are about as good as it gets. The horses entered in the Million were bred in Great Britain, Ireland, Brazil, Germany, Canada, and the USA. The fillies and mares in the Beverly D were bred in Germany, Chile, Great Britain, South Africa, France, and USA. At least some of the Euro horses actually came over for these races (this is grass racing and they are to be feared). Am really raving here. The great jockey Lanfranco Dettori is coming over from Paris. This is going to be great.

sam Aug 13th, 2004 06:37 AM

rave: this board and everyone's well-wishes for each other

rave: hoping everyone gets through this hurricane and nasty weather unharmed

rave: going home and packing to go to Plymouth, MA for a few days with my DS and DD, for much needed mom/kids time

rave: family cookout (or cook"in", because of Charley aftermath here in New England), with relatives my children have never met and that I haven't seen in 8 years

rant: none compared to those dealing with hurricanes, wildfires, flooding, etc. - I just count my blessings :-)

Jocelyn_P Aug 13th, 2004 06:39 AM

Thanks, Ryan. I was afraid someone would say that. I've always been active but with low-impact activites--I just thought I'd try something new with the running. I can't believe this is normal--it's not like I'm running marathons. Of course DH just says, "No pain, no gain." Well, this pain is keeping me from going up and down the stairs!

I need a rave to balance this out: great weather again today in OK! We all need to get out and play.

buckeyemom Aug 13th, 2004 06:43 AM

Rant-25th High School Class Reunion. :'(

Rave-With diet and excercise, I look pretty good for an old fart. =D>

Rant-Hurrican Charley. Praying for all of you in Florida that you may be safe.

Rave-The great people on this board!

I agree McGreevy should go to jail for trying to put that gigilo into a job that he had know qualifications for. The man isn't even a citizen.
