Freaky Friday Rants and Raves 3-31
Rant: Humm, I'll come up with one by tomorrow!
Rave: "American Inventor" |
Life is good. Life is good. Life is good.
There are some rants, but just don't want to go there. Happy Friday and weekend, everyone! |
I usually post on Europe board but I'm happy and want to share.
Rant: My son did not get into University of California Berkeley, his first choice. Raave: He did get into UCLA, his second choice and is happy. He's happy so I'm happy. Have a good weekend everyone. Barb |
Rant: 40 days and 40 nights of rain now. Get out my ark!
Rant: Car accident today. I doubt the weather was a factor in this one, though. Rave: Never a dull moment!! |
Raves:
Spent Tues/Wed(My weekend) doing absolutely nothing at home with daughter. Never even turned the phone on(only use a cell)No interruptions and great quality time..and I didn't even stress if the bedroom got messy Feeling like I have friends at work and not just coworkers..something I took for granted until I moved across the country Being able to return the citronella dog collar to PetSmart for a refund, thanks to Frankie's apparent attraction to that smell..he like to go to Sister's house,so maybe that's what he was after all along! Rave..or rant? Kaelan informing me tonight that we are going to get a new Daddy tomorrow. No pressure there, huh? Then again, she also said we're going to IHOP for pancakes, and on a cruise to Disney for her birthday...her little 3 year old mind goes a million miles per hour...and even the sad thoughts can bring out a smile and a laugh! |
Rant: My co-workers were on a rant all day!
Rave: I'm escaping from work by going out of town at noon tomorrow! You have a good weekend too Barb. VS |
Rave:
My son visited, we had a wonderful time, laughed a lot and ate too much..he did not get that much of Moms home cooking this visit! We are missing him now but he will be back within the year :D Kids are fine, we are fine, Pup is fine..nothing really rantable :) |
No Rants from me this week either.
Raves: Spent most of the week just having fun. Took advantage of no rain two different mornings sitting in the patio of my favorite cafe enjoying coffee and the fresh air and good conversations. Spent all day Tuesday with my almost 20 year old grandson. We even went shopping as he "needed" silk ties. What a change from the black tshirts and sweatshirts and jeans he lived in while in highschool. A dear friend is expecting a baby. I am so excited. Another lovely friend is coming Saturday night as we are going to our favorite restaurant and will catch up on our lives over fantastic food and good wine. Daylightsavings time starts this weekend. I can hardly wait for it to be lighter for a longer period in the evenings. And I know the rain HAS to stop at some point. It just has to!! Taxes filed, didn't owe any money, I say with a good sigh. Everyone in my life is well and happy. One of my grandsons who is a chef had a beautiful write up about him in his city's newspaper. Got a clean bill of health from my doctor. That always makes one feel years younger. Life is good and spring weather is surely around the corner. Blessings to all of you, have a great weekend. |
Rant: I hate DST.
Rave: I live in Arizona. I don't have to deal with DST. Rave: Going to Kauai in 55 days. I still don't have to deal with DST. Rave: I saw my highest rated member, so far, of the female gender yesterday (9.5). Rant: She wouldn't even give me the time of day. Rave: Going to San Diego in September for a week. Rave: My car hasn't been in the shop at all this month. Rave: Life is good. ((D))8-) |
Rave: Absolutely gorgeous weather here in MA this week. Skipped the gym in favor of a 5 mile walk outside, TWICE.
Rant: Despite walking on a treadmill 4-5 times a week, walking outside makes a variety of muscles/tendons/joints hurt. Rave/Rant: MCAS testing (state mandated standardized tests)is over. Although I think the whole thing is in some ways a huge waste of time and energy (especially for the school admins.), I did enjoy having the in-school time to get correcting and other work done. Rave: Coworkers that are fun/funny. |
Rave: He's baaack! There is a small, private airport a few miles from our house. One of the guys who keeps a plane there is an amazing stunt pilot and when the weather warms up, he's out practicing/perfoming. As I type, he's doing double loops, flying upside down, diving, making sharp quarter turns. Don't know who he is, but a neighbor says he performs at air shows all across Europe. We get to watch him for free :-)
Rave: brother in law has business in Oxford next week, so he's flying into London today and will spend the week-end with us. Rant: I have to clean the house from top to bottom to make it guest presentable. Oh well, had to do it sometime. |
Big Rave: On Tuesday I passed my first USFSA test!
Rave: This week our 17 year old energy challenged clothes dryer and 10 year old washing machine were replaced with a shiny new matching set. Rant: Yesterday afternoon I was bit on the wrist by the seasons first mosquito--my hands were full so he remains at large. Rave: DH birthday is tomorrow. Curious: The skunk that had taken up residence under the deck has disappeared. |
Minor Rant: My new toaster oven ticks while toasting (like a clock) and dings loudly when done. Why can't it just be quiet in the morning like everything else in my house??
And if that's my biggest rant, I'd say life is pretty dang good! Rave: My dog's surgery went well yesterday and she's back to bugging me about playing with her ball and wanting food. I just love my little girl! :) |
BTilke--I'd swear you lived by me. We have a private airport literally a field away from my little cul-de-sac, and we have been watching our favorite pilot, too. I love showing my 3-yr-old the loops and dives. He loves watching it.
Babs--Congrats to your son. My seniors are all getting their acceptances, so it is really fun to see all their happy faces. I'm impressed with our graduating class this year. klr--Glad to hear that you and DD are enjoying your time together. Keep it up. DS is now saying that he's going to have a baby sister soon--maybe he knows something I don't? :-) Scarlett--I'm happy to know you had a great visit with your son. I hope that you get to see him again real soon. LoveItaly--I loved reading what you wrote this morning. What a wonderful outlook on life. Here's to your clean bill of health. Salut! jamaltay--Maybe you'll meet your 10 soon, and she'll give you the time of day. Heck--let it be in Kauai... AnnMarie--Congrats!!! By the way, it is getting easier as time goes by. I still have some hard moments like when I am driving alone, but for the most part, I'm starting to focus more on the good things rather than the guilt and sadness. Rave: I re-planted flowers to replace the ones killed by the frost. These look even better. Rave: Rains came, so I didn't have to water. Rave: I accepted a job at a new high school. I'll miss the school I'm in now--esp. the kids and staff--but I'm going to a higher paying school district and better benefits. Yea! Rave: The reaction I'm getting from all my students. It is reinforcing the reasons I love being a teacher. No rants...have a beautiful and blessed weekend, everyone! |
Rave: LoveItaly's clean bill of health.
Rave: AnnMarie's skating ability, and passing her test. Well done!! Rave: klr, good luck finding a new Daddy today. :-) Rave: starrsville's life is good. Rant: MelissaHI's accident. :-( Rave: Daylight Savings Time. I don't like the adjustment to DST, but I sure like that extra hour of sunshine in the evenings. Rave: I finished my taxes this week and didn't have to pay. We're getting back a whopping $91!! Should we spend or invest it? :-? Rave: As some of you know there has been some turmoil in my family lately. But things have calmed down and we are now in a holding pattern until further notice. Therefore I have decided to carry on with my plans for my London/Madeira trip. I'm leaving a week from today!! WOOHOO!! Of course I will post my R&R's before going to the airport. :-) stw, I hope your son is feeling better and I hope you did not get sick. I am rantless today. Happy weekend, all!! |
Rave: This weekend is my niece's Bat Mitzvah! Wonderful accomplishment for her and tons of family and friends in town for the special event and celebration.
Rave: Wonderful young woman who babysat my kids when she was in high school, college and even sometimes after she started teaching kindergarten (from when my kids were babies till almost teens) just had her first child yesterday!! A healty 7 lb. 4 oz. baby girl - can't wait to see her. Maybe my teens can now babysit for her and her husband. :-) Rave: Great time visiting sister and BIL in LA last week with younger son (12). Rant: Stressful week trying to do so much for so many and feeling a little underappreciated. Rave: My dear DH is so supportive! Rant: I seem to have the same new toaster as travel_addict ....it is driving me mad! #-O Rave: I LOVE Spring. To all of you with too much rain, please send some to us in VA....the driest March here on record - since at least 1917. BabsB - Congrats to you and your son! klr6773 - You sound like you are hanging in there. Good for you! MelissaHI- Hope all is ok from the car accident. Scarlett - Glad you had such a great time with your son. LoveItaly - So much wonderful - from the big to the simple. divingaggie - Congrats on new job. Glad to hear you are doing well. viaggio sempre - Enjoy your weekend away - sounds like you could use the break. Everyone: Have a great weekend! Life is good, and I feel fortunate.((#)) |
RANT: I turned 35 yesterday...ugh! Why is this such a painful milestone?
RAVE: Planning a litle pink party for my soon-to-be 2 year old daughter next weekend! RAVE: The gorgeous weather we are having here in Colorado-springtime! (Sorry Mellisa!!) |
Ani - Oh, Baby! The best is TRULY yet to come. Enjoy your 35th year to the fullest! :-)
|
Rant - We no longer have a back deck.
Rave - We no longer have a back deck because we tore it down to make room for a new family room addition! Rant - The dog is confused by the absence of the deck. She now has to go out the front door which she previously had been trained not to do. So now she stands where the steps of the back deck used to be and cries. Poor thing! Rave: MCAS testing means no homework for DD and we are loving the extra time together. Babs - congratulations to your son. Jorr - I'm enjoying that show also though I only watch half because then I have to watch The Office. MelissaHi - I hope no one one was injured in the accident. Divingaggie - good luck with the new job. fun4all - congratulations to your niece Ani - I remember the weekly posts before your baby was born. Time flies! JJ5 - you haven't posted yet but I hope all is calm with your family. Prayers are going out for you. To all planning trips - have fun and enjoy these opportunities. Eeva - MCAS testing is a mixed bag. I like the validation that it provides but the stress it places on some kids is overwhelming. My kids excel so I don't have to worry but special needs kids struggle unfairly. |
Ani-Turned 35 last week-I feel your pain!
Rave-It's finally nice out here in Chicago and it's DST! Yeah! Rave-Can get outside and take my little girl for a walk. Rant-FMLA runs out in a month and back to work-wow does time fly! |
Happy Friday!!
Rave: Another beautiful weekend here in SW Florida. Mild temps and sunny skies. Rant: Another week with no rain. We are having a serious drought and need rain badly. Rave: Gators are still in the big tournament. Would love to see them get to the final game but regardless, they have gone much further than most expected early on. Rant/Rave: Nephew serving in Iraq was in an armoured vehicle that was hit with an "IED" earlier this week. The rave is for the fact that he was only superficially injured and the others along with him were not seriously hurt either. Have a great weekend. Pray for peace. |
fun4all--thank you. And we appreciate you!!! I look forward to your FFRR every week. <<:-)>>
bennnie--thank you, and good luck with the new addition! Home improvement is always a fun (and challenging) experience. |
Raves.
The George Mason Patriots basketball team. :)>- UMD womans team in the final four also, but overshadowed in the DC area by the unexpected success of GMU. |
rave: spring is here, in n.y. there are buds on the trees (what few trees there are) and everything.
rave: i'm on my own in the department here for 2 days! rave: sister set wedding date! thats 2 siblings in september, and 1 cousin in october! rave/rant: had a very good, promising interview this week! haven't heard anything, but at least i went! if i started this month, i would have to put the ireland trip on indefinate hold. rant/rave: bf is on a spring ski w'end, but it will be nice to have the place to myself. :D |
Rave: Today is the last shift I work for over two weeks and we leave for Hawaii on Sunday. Yippeeeeee!!!!
Rave: It is a gorgeous day here in Ontario Canada. It is supposed to be around 70 degrees. No rants today. 8>) |
bennie, Thanks for thinking of me and to all who give good thoughts. Things are very poor on all fronts- and there really is no end in sight. I hope none of you ever have to go through this with anyone you love or even with any you don't love. A dog or any pet wouldn't be put through this kind of outcome, and there is no end in sight. The wound care alone is getting to be beyond the hospice people and I really don't know where we will end up. My sister has also more "interesting" news, now they are pitching another year of chemo AFTER the next 12 weeks regime is done for a 2% difference in prognosis. And she's a real follower and will do it. She'll have all kinds of long term organ (heart especially) damage risk and all of my medical friends are telling me to keep her from going this route.
Rave: Opening day at Sox park is Sunday and youngest son will represent us there. Rant: Dan Ryan is going down today for THREE YEARS - now we can get there re Iowa or Wisc or Ashland Ave. (HA HA HA HA) Rave: DST Rave: Oldest son's family coming home from California today. I can't wait to hear about the trip from my grandkids. I'll tell you how the 11, 9, 6 year olds liked SF. These are the same kids who were in crowds of 20,000 at the ball park and in downtown Chicago when they were 5 days old- so it should be fun to hear. RANT: MY CAR IS DRIVING ME CRAZY. Now it is intermittant brake lights and they were OUT the whole way to work. Car shopping is got to get into the priorities for this summer. Rave: Someone else is using my MI house for fishing this week and next week. It is absolutely beautiful there- and RANT: I'm hearing about how beautiful it is there and I'm not there. I'm looking at starrsville's "Life is good. Life is good." and just repeating it to myself. |
JJ5--stay strong. My thoughts are with you.
Rave: My best friend, also maid of honor, and I are going to get her dress tomorrow. Then we're going shopping and spending the night in Albany. It's been so long since we've had a moment for just the two of us. Cocktails and talking--it's going to be great! Rave: Spring is finally here. It's supposed to be in the 60's today. Of course, followed by rain tomorrow and cooler next week but I'll take it. Rant: Got warned at work to watch my internet usage. I feel so disconnected from everything now. I had to sneak on to ready the FFR&R though. I'll end with a minor rave--another pound bites the dust!! Making it 20lbs gone since 11/7. That's 4 bags of sugar! I hope everyone has a great weekend! |
Rant: My grandmother is in the hospital.
Rave: She checked in with her maid and her own private nurse. She's funny. Rave: I already one the office pool for the NCAA Tourney because three of my picks are in the final four. There were over 100 people in this pool and I won with three games left to play! (I work with all golf pros, starters, etc.; they won't let me into the Masters pool) Rave: South Carolina won the NIT! Go Cocks! Rave: Spending a long romantic weekend with Mr.GoTravel! Whoopee! |
Rave: Leaving for spring break in FL with the gang in 6 hours and 42 minutes (but who's counting).
Rant: I'll be in the thick of PMS on Wednesday when my OCD father in law will be with us for the day and I'll be "visited by my little friend" for the rest of spring break. It seems like every time I have vacation plans involving a beach or a bathing suit its THAT time of the month! |
Crap.
I already Won the office pool not one the office pool. |
Rant: Work in a small town whose major employer is Delphi. Actually, it's the biggest employer in the county. The bankrupty proceedings, rumors, threats, etc. are making everyone crazy. Latest rumor is our plant stays open, however, at the same time a new rumor about moving all of the work to Mexico. No one knows if they will have a job or at what pay. They can close the town down if the plant closes. then we wont have to worry about whether or not to allow a Super Wal-Mart to be built because there wont be anyone left with money to shop there. Although I originally though I keep my job for about 2 years to get experience, I've ended up staying her for 20+ years.
Rave: DH business (in a different town and county) is growing rapidly and doing great. I wonder what it would be like to be a stay at home mom for awhile. Does it count if your kids are in college and high school? Well, the dogs are still puppies and they would love to have me around to take them on walks and play catch! Rave 2: Dad's stress test went great, almost 81 and still going strong! Rave 3: Great weather in western new york. trees budding, crocuses blooming, daffodils and tulips growing, robins and ducks everywhere. It's so lovely every morning when I walk the puppies. Prayers to those in need of healing. Kudos to those enjoying good things. Thanks JOrr for this thread. It always makes me reflect on my week, and each week I realize how lucky I am...great husband, great kids, great family and friends. Relatively good health for all. what more could I want? (besides a trip somewhere) Have a great weekend all. |
Ethel--20 pounds? That's awesome!!
Bennnie--I had to laugh at the thought of your poor little confused pooch. The antics of our basset just make my day--she's so funny (a huge RAVE). JJ5--Your family is in my prayers. Rave: DD turns 14 tomorrow--our little April Fool! The great thing about her birth is that she was 2 weeks early so NO ONE believed us when we called to announce her birth--on April Fool's Day. They're all like, 'Sure. Right.' Us: 'No, really!' She is a blessing--funny, smart, sassy and beautiful. I could do with a little less eye-rolling, but hey, that's okay :-) Can't believe my baby is 14... No rants--happy weekend to everyone! |
RAVE: A hostage was freed, today is my niece's 1 year and my best friend's 28th birthday....
RANT: none.. the sun is shining, life is good today ! |
JJ5--I'm praying for you and your family. I know how hard it is. Take care of yourself, too, though.
GoT & amwosu--y'all make me laugh...thanks. Another rave: Half of my students are gone today for athletics and UIL competitions. It's a good Friday. |
Rave: I am posting this from Corolla, NC since we are here celebrating DH's 40th.
No rants!!! |
samschack..
Thank God your nephew was not seriously hurt, or the other soldiers with him. Be assured that Prayers do go out each day for Peace and the end of this war ( speaking for this home) .. ((F)) Scarlett |
a Rant :(
I gave advice on a trip to NYC and I was wrong. I have been away too long~weeping~ Something will just have to be done about it... |
Long time reader of, but first time poster on Rant & Raves ...
Rave: My niece is pregnant, has one child but lost the next two, and this was a high risk with many problems on watch until she got thru second trimester - and yesterday got great news that she is now 'in the clear' - so happy she can finally begin enjoying her pregnancy !! Rave: Daughter who has been recovering from bad case of mono (Iv's, steroids, etc) seems to finally have turned the corner after 6 weeks...we are waiting for final liver function tests hopefully today to give us good news so I am being optomistic and calling this a rave....she is at least showing signs of getting antsy and thank God her boss is being a doll and holding her job for her in NYC.... Rant: None, counting my blessings - only Rant would be for all of you dealing with something worrisome.... and especially JJ5... unfortunately been in your position too many times with family members...praying for you.....take care of yourself, or you will be no use to others....you have my prayers... As Lewis Carroll wrote in Through the Looking Glass.. " Alice laughed. "There's no use trying," she said. "One can't believe impossible things." - "I daresay you haven't had much practice," said the Queen, "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." I'm entering this week, believing in the impossible. |
Good thoughts for you and your family JJ5.
Ethel: Way to go! Escargot: What exciting news! Rave: Just got back from my daughter's 2 year old checkup. She's healthy and fun and beautiful. Rave: Mannequin jumping at our local ski area tomorrow. It's so much fun to sit on the deck of the lodge and watch the crazy mannequins fly and crash over a big ski jump. Rave: Crocuses are blooming in one of my flower beds. Rave: It's Friday and I'm excited to have a Friday night poison. :) |
Rant?? got rained out of our Santa Barbara week-end.
Bright side!!They need the rain.:-B |
