Jorr,
I haven't seen any swallows back in our neighbourhood yet but did see a hummingbird sitting on a branch the other day!

Judy24 Mar 17th, 2006 09:17 AM

I also usually don't post on this thread, but couldn't resist after reading CAPH52's great news, so . . .

Rave: CAPH52's husband's remission!

Rant: No Rants. See above.

samschack Mar 17th, 2006 10:36 AM

Rave: All the good news posted here today.
Rant: Our "belated honeymoon" trip to NYC was way too short. Had such a wonderful time. One of these days I'll try to take time to post some of the highlights. One of our best trips to the city yet. Maybe the honeymoon part had something to do with making it so special?
btw: Otto--from your reply last week you certainly did not jinx us on our dinner at One if by Land.
It was a totally awesome experience!
Inconsequential Rave: Gators made it through the first round of the NCAA tourney. Still a long way to go but a win's a win.
Rant: DW is getting frustrated as she had a job interview for a univ. teaching position two weeks ago and thought she'd hear something by now. She got very positive feedback from the hiring committee during one on one interviews and felt very good about it afterward but as time goes by she is getting a little bit discouraged.
Hopefully by this time next week she'll know something one way or the other.
Huge Rave: Great weekend weather predicted for us here in S. Fla.
A pleasant and safe weekend to all!

MelissaHI Mar 17th, 2006 12:00 PM

Congrats to CAPH!

I get the feeling that this week has been full of good news for everyone. I can't get into the details of my rave here, but I'll just say, karma has been working overtime!

Happy St. Paddy's Day to everyone!

edhodge Mar 17th, 2006 12:02 PM

Never posted here before but have followed for a while.
Rave: Caph's DH in complete remission. A blessing! Wishing many more for those in need.

Rave: first bluebird of the season here in Northwest Arkansas

Rave: the people I work with are so much fun

Rave: I love being of Irish heritage on St. Patrick's Day.

Rave: new music (Susan Tedeschi, Aqualung, Willie Nelson and a Tribute to Nicolette Larson).

Rant: none. Okay, some but why focus on the negative?

AuntAnnie Mar 17th, 2006 12:16 PM

kureiff and tpatricco:
I too loved The Time Traveller's Wife!!
rjw_lgb_ca: Your sentiments about the tolerance in this next generation is so true. I am so proud of my daughters and their diverse, loved group of friends!!

CaliNurse Mar 17th, 2006 12:17 PM

RAVE: CAPH...AWESOME!!!!! Oh, the relief for you and your family!! Bet you're on a natural "high."
RAVE: Starrsville, take the white cat!! Animals are such great friends and family members.
RANT: our beloved sweet dog Benny died--I wrote 4 weeks ago here about him, when he was sick. Didn't have the heart to mention it 'til now. We have his ashes on the mantle in a little box with an engraved plaque. We all miss him so much.
RAVE: My daughter last week rescued another dog from the shelter--also WHITE (like Starrsville's cat) This little guy, who was flea bitten and bruised, is now gorgeous and happy--a miniature poodle we named Tater, and call "Tate" when we're in more formal moods.
RAVE: Judy and iw for joining the conversation. Enjoy!
RAVE: FainaA is having a great trip to Israel. L'chaim!
RAVE:The shared-here good news of families, birthday celebrations, beloved children, and other blessings.
RAVE: upcoming first trip to Hot Springs, Arkansas (where I'll meet a wonderful Fodorite in person) and Texarkana, to house-hunt.
RAVE: New method we just learned for chemo administration, which has improved outcomes for what it treats. It's given intraperitoneally.
RAVE: Thinking of of you who are going through chemo for yourself or with a loved one. You're all amazing. Lucy, feel stronger soon!
RANT: Flooding and dam bursting on Kauai, with lives lost.

GSt Patrick's Day to all. Bennie, thanks for the Gaelic blessing wishes.

GoTravel Mar 17th, 2006 12:24 PM

Cali, I'm so sorry about Bennie!

A new pet will steal your heart and then heal your heart!

Super-Duper Rave: CAPH's husband is in remission!!! I am so thankful! :-d

Rave: Scarlett and Caph's children are visiting. Mine too! ((l)) Had lots of laughs with the two last night -- wishing the same for the both of you.

Rave: My oldest son and his girlfriend (and a couple of their friends) ran their first marathon together. They were so cute together. We really enjoyed cheering them on =D> =D> -- there were really only a handful of us on Memorial Drive -- so many people thanked us for being there. It was a pleasure. :) Now the oldest tells us that he wants to run the 50 mile Virginia marathon next year -- Yikes!!! O-)

Rave: My FIL did something very kind and unexpected for me this week -- it was a nice surprise. Thanks Dad! :)

Rave: Three weeks from tomorrow we will be in sunny Florida! ((H))((#))

Rave: The new posters of FFR&R! Welcome! :)

Rave: I think we are going to see "Cosmic Collision" at the Hayden Planetarium tomorrow. I just loooove going to the Planetarium!!! :D

Rant: Those of you who are dealing with difficulties and sadness my thoughts are with you. ((f))

Lucy: I didn't know about your treatments. Wishing you good health and a wonderful trip!!

OWJ: your poor DH! I hope he is on his feet again soon. Sending you a BIG hug -- do you ever sleep!?! :)

Klr: I'm sorry for what you are going through. You sound like a very strong women -- hang in there!

rjw: Your sister is inspiring! Have a great trip!

Samshack: I hope your DW hears something soon -- the waiting is always tough.

JJ5: I'm glad to hear your DF is doing well. I hope YOU feel better soon.

Cali: I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your pet.

Starrsville: growing up, I had a white cat -- her name was Moolie. I haven't thought about her in years and years.

Only a tiny rant for myself this week: My husband leaves for Charleston on Sunday -- I can't go along with him. :( BUT...it looks like this summer I will go to Toronto/Montreal with him. I just miss, miss, miss him when he's gone!

mikemo Mar 17th, 2006 12:52 PM

Ceud Mile Failte!

Rant: If I said that here in MX, they might think me certifiable.

Rant: The US Trade and Budget deficits.

Rave: China next week.

Rant: Our UA first/business SFOPEK/PVGSFO backups are way oversold.

Rave: Instead of our traditional St. Patrick's 7 course dinner (a six pack/Negra Modelo here and a boiled potato), we're doing Thai and white wine. Actually, just took the dry chiles out of water and put them in the oil, washed my hands, but ran a finger x my lip and got seared. Dumb.

Rave: State of the art diagnostic medical imaging.

Feliz fin de semana from SMdA, Gto.

OK, Scarlett, you can imagine my voice sounds like whoever you like:

Happy birthday, dear Scarlett,
Happy birthday tooooo yoooouuuuu!!!!!

Rave: My 16 yr old son is so appreciative of things I do for him. He doesn't take me for granted...gives me a kiss and a hug out of the blue and a thanks for things like taking him out for practice drives to get him ready for his driving test and for taking him to tennis lessons.

Rave: A local woman (grandma to some of my students) just started a home cooked meal business that I love. She emails a dinner menu for the week, I order, she drops off the dinners at my school. Hooray! For $12.50 I get an amazing dinner for four. I couldn't make it for that and she does all the work and she's waaaay better at it than I am.

Rave: DH is enjoying a bike ride in AZ as I type. He was sick while we were there at Christmas and didn't get to try out his new bike then.

AnnMarie_C Mar 17th, 2006 02:03 PM

%%- Happy St. Patrick's Day %%-

starrsville, interesting and sweet story about the white kitty showing up. "They" say we don't choose pets they choose us--would love to know how it turns out.

Happy Birthday, Scarlett! Hope you enjoy a wonderful visit with your son!

Wonderful news, CAPH! I am very happy for your and your DH.

P_M, your waiter experience sounds like an episode from W&G! Sorry that happened.

mikemo, I hope you enjoy an amazing trip to China. It is my dream to go there. Will you write a trip report? Enjoy a safe journey.

Rave: The last of the Waverly wall paper previous home owners installed is gone from the house! It was pretty but not my taste.

Rave: Party at the neighbors house tomorrow night to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

Big Rave: My dear, sweet, funny & crazy girl friends.

Hmmmm: Our skunk was milling about the yard yesterday afternoon--aren't they nocturnal?!?

MelissaHI Mar 17th, 2006 02:03 PM

How did I miss lcuy's post??? Hope you feel better! Got lots of travelin to do!

sunbabe Mar 17th, 2006 02:20 PM

GREAT NEWS, CAPH!!! I love to hear those survivor stories. The big "C" has a way of bringing people down, but a positive attitude goes a long way in the fight.

Rave: family
Rave: friends
Rave: innocence of children
Rave: sunshine
Rave: newly emerging flowers
Rave: good health
Rave: Jorr's FFR&R

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Fodorite018 Mar 17th, 2006 02:26 PM

Welcome to iw and edhodge!

kureiff--I have only done two dish clothes so far, lol! I started a new scarf that I hope to have done by next week so I can wear it to Victoria though.

Lucy--I hope you feel better!

Scarlett--I know you are enjoying DS! Happy Bday to you:)

RJW--Best wishes for your sister...and great attitude!

Starrsville--I agree, pets choose us. When my DH was deployed once, our cat passed away. Not even 3 weeks later another cat showed up at our door. You never know how these things work out.

Cali--So sorry to hear about your pup. New pets do help though, enjoy.

GoTravel--Still thinking about you.

seetheworld Mar 17th, 2006 02:36 PM

mms, welcome to the knitters club!!! I love to knit, but I'm not ready for bingo, yet lol. ;)

chicagolori Mar 17th, 2006 02:39 PM

I post all the time on the Europe board but never hear till now. I dont even know CAPH but I read her post and started crying. I add to all the raves about this wonderful news.

Rant: I had to return...

LoveItaly Mar 17th, 2006 05:04 PM

All the weeks seem to go by to fast Jorr.

Raves: So much wonderful news this week, what a nice way to start the weekend!

And of course CAPH'S news goes way beyond wonderful.

And OWJ2 back is getting better! Fantastic, have a lovely dinner OWJ, you deserve it and also your spring break. And good for you getting those FF tickets, that is awesome.

Scarlett, the best birthday present of all, having your wonderful son home with you for awhile! Enjoy.

Jorr, the contractor I hired that did the exterior painting on the house plus lots of other work just received the local Chamber of Commerce "Business Of The Year Award" for outstanding customer service and all the community work he does. Do I know how to pick a General Contractor or what ;;)

Starrsville, your little white kitty knew where it belonged, enjoy many long and happy years with him.

PM, a well meaning friend I am sure but remember the old saying about "the road to h*ll is paved with good intentions", sigh. Will keep my fingers crossed that everything works out. And the waiter, I have had some goofy ones but your waiter sounds the worse ever, LOL.

A thank you to all you teachers, you are my heros, I wish your salaries were in line with the important work you do.

And how great to read about all the parents that enjoy their children. That always is good to hear! Enjoy every moment, even the frustrating ones, they grow up so fast.

JJ5, you know, I hope, that you and your family are in my prayers and thoughts. I am sorry that everything is so difficult, you have my admiration as you carry on. Wishes that you have better days soon.

To anyone that has worries, a heartbreak or concerns, I wish you peace and better times.

And thanks to all the Fodorites that give us a chuckle here and a giggle there along with fantastic travel advice and wonderful trip reports.

Happy St. Patrick's Day and a good weekend to everyone.
