Freaky Friday Rants and Raves 3-17

Rant: The week went too fast.

Rave: I cleared out lots of old files and papers.

Rave: More room for new stuff.

CAPH52 Mar 16th, 2006 09:09 PM

Hooray! I get to be first with the world's biggest rave: My husband is in complete remission!

Rave: Our daughter comes home in less than 8 hours!

Rave: It looks like we're going to Ireland a week from Saturday!

Life is good!

Scarlett Mar 16th, 2006 09:11 PM

And I repeat myself here for CAPH....Yay!!!!
I am SO happy for you all.

Rave:
CAPHS news
Rave:
My son arrives in the morning. Everything is ready and waiting, including a fridge full of his favorite foods lol..

No rants at all...annoyances really dim and fall away when there is an abundance of Good News and Happiness around :D

starrsville Mar 16th, 2006 09:24 PM

Rave - CAPH's news. What could be better?

Rave - Visits by Caph's and Scarlett's "babies" :-)

Rave - Family. Had a wonderful birthday dinner with sister. Old wounds are healing. Do we just get too tired or actually smarter as we get older?

Rave - The sadness is lifting. Back in the mood to be productive and enjoying renovation tasks.

Rave - Ever since I moved back to farmhouse I've wanted a white cat - just 'cause G'ma always had one. Received a call today from parents. A white stray appeared at their house. Do I want a white cat? I'm taking it as a sign that things are unfolding exactly as they are supposed to. Trust. Be patient. Believe.

Congrats again to CAPH & Hubby!!!

CAPH52 Mar 16th, 2006 09:36 PM

That white cat sounds like a good sign to me, Starrsville!

klr6773 Mar 16th, 2006 10:16 PM

Congrats to all so far on your wonderful news! Thank God somebody out there is having a good week!
Rant and Rave:
Well, Cristian the now ex boyfirend is back in Jersey where he should have stayed all along...and Jeter my wonderfully adorable new puppy was brought to the Oregon Dachshund Rescue last night. No way to have a puppy and not have someone home with him most of the day.The woman who runs it is wonderful, and I know Jeter, albeit with a new name I'm sure, will be placed with his best interests in mind.I am heartbroken for Pup and my daughter who doesn't understand why Daddy left her AGAIN and where is her new puppy?? Back to single motherhood trying to juggle the circus that I know as my life, but relieved that I was strong enough to put my foot down and realize that it's not worth all of my happiness just to have Daddy in the same house as daughter. My move across the country last Summer was significant to me as a fresh start, and I took a big step back these last 6 weeks.

Rave:Audio books on CD-should have tried them sooner-I love them!I wish I had them for my trip out here. Looking to find unabridged Janet Evanovich's Plum series.

Have a good week everyone!

OneWanderingJew Mar 16th, 2006 10:58 PM

Silly Rant: I'm just no good at bolding my text. Sorry!

Night!

OneWanderingJew Mar 16th, 2006 11:02 PM

Ok, something's screwy...I was able to retrieve my original post by clicking the back button so I've cut and pasted it here. Not sure where it went!!...maybe my comment about bolding will make sense if you read below.

Yay, CAPH, YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! What wonderful news about your husband--and having your daughter come home is the cherry on the top of the cake...Will you be going to Ireland now??

Happy Bday, Scarlett! Enjoy having your son home!

And here's your big ole bday cake, Starrsville Glad things are getting better for ya!

Rave: I have two seconds to myself to check FFRR. It's been a hectic couple of weeks (more about that in a sec.)

Rant: I have so much going on in my head that I keep waking up and not able to fall back to sleep--it's 2.30am folks

Rant/Rave: DH herniated a disk almost 2wks ago and was laid up-- and I mean flat on his back, unable to move! Poor baby. But the good news is that thanks to Mr. Pain Meds and a few shots from our friend the orthopedist, he's feeling better. (Thank Goodness b/c I've realized I make a lousy nurse. That running up and down the stairs wore me out!)

Rave: We're going out w/our closest friends Sat. night for 2 of the girl's bdays. Wasn't sure we were going to be able to join them, so this is good!

Rant: I'm in the midst of my busy season--tons of IEPs to write (special ed paperwork), extra meetings, grades due, other stuff going on at work. Can you say, "Stressed?"..and I'm a stress eater which stresses me out...

Rave: Only two more IEPs left to write and it's not the day before all my meetings!

Rave: This work stuff will lighten up after March 28th!

Rave: My Spring Break is in two weeks!!

Rant: No travel plans for my Spring Break--might have to fix that!!!

Rave: Started planning a trip to the Pacific NW (Seattle, Vancouver, Vancover Is.) Found 1st class tickets and it will cost us 10k less miles than if we went coach! Really! Delta has two 'pricing' levels, Skysaver and Skychoice. Skychoice costs double miles. I was able to find Skysaver 1st class seats (45k miles) but only Skychoice coach seats (50k miles). Go figure!

Am heading back to sleep, Happy St. Patrick's Day everybody!!

OneWanderingJew Mar 16th, 2006 11:04 PM

Ok, I give up! I had cute bday cake icons and a shamrock attached to my messages. Where did they go?

This is a sign I need some sleep, isn't it?

April Mar 16th, 2006 11:42 PM

Good news, CAPH52!

Rave: WAY more money is going out than is coming in. Enough already.

I can't find a shamrock so this will have to do.
%%-

April Mar 16th, 2006 11:46 PM

Oops, that was supposed to be a rant. Guess I need more sleep too.

BTilke Mar 17th, 2006 01:21 AM

Rave: Caph's good news and happy family news from other Fodorites

Rant: Husband took up swimming at health club to get in shape and promptly developed a skin infection from the pool.

Rave: Just finished 2+ weeks in Vienna and Krakow. Spent a day at Auschwitz/Birkenau, which was incredibly moving. Seeing it on a cold winter day really brought home the desolation and despair. There was a surprisingly large number of visitors from many countries, which is a rave, because the more people who see it, the better for humanity.

marigross Mar 17th, 2006 02:13 AM

Caph!!!! Wonderful news!!!

Rant: my project at work is at the critical phase and the vendor is NOT cooperating...feels like I have been pushing a wall for the past four weeks

Rave: a long awaited promotion seems to finally going be happening in the near future

Bigger Rave: going to Switzerland in July not only to visit DH's family but to actually see Switzerland

Rant: prices in Switzerland are so high that the hotels are going to eat up whatever salary increase I get with that promotion ;)

Major Rave: I am the mother of a teenager...DD is 13...and still nice...and still talks to me (most of the time)...and sometimes she actually sits down for dinner with us and converses...hope she stays like she is!

wagonwheel2 Mar 17th, 2006 03:28 AM

Rave: Congratulations and all the best for many happy days to CAPH and her husband.

Rave: Spring is ALMOST here !

Rave: 28 more days until we take our son for his first trip to Disney. I'm just as excited as he is to see the magic work it's wonder on him, and my husband, who is also visting Disney for the first time !

fun4all4 Mar 17th, 2006 03:59 AM

Rave: My first ever post on FFRR.

Rave: CAPH's good news!

Rave: Scarlett's son home for visit

Rave: Younger son (12 yo) and I leave for LA tomorrow morning. My sister and BIL moved there in August (from NYC - we live in Virginia). This will be our first visit to LA. So excited to spend time with sis and play tourist in LA. :-)

Rave: Older son (14 yo) played in his first HS soccer game on Tuesday - he played great and team won. A big thrill for him even though he has played for 10 years.

Rant: Same older son woke up Wednesday sick - miserable for 2 days and missed school and practice. Still just recovering so I have been "Mom nurse" all week.

Rant: Really need to get some "spring" cleaning and organizing going - need to do the closets and files.

Rave: Spring is coming!

Rave: My rants are minor

Have a great weekend everyone.

P_M Mar 17th, 2006 04:20 AM

MAJOR RAVE: CAPH, that's the best rave of all times in the history of this board!! I'm singing, dancing, yodeling, and wiping tears from my eyes. WOOHOO!! Enjoy your trip to Ireland, my friend. What perfect St. Patty's day news, you have made my day a joy already. :-)

Rant: A well-meaning but misguided family friend is posting BIL's bail. I'm glad FIL will be able to spend some time with him, but we fear that BIL will do something stupid while he's out.

Rant: Drunk/Stoned waiter last night!! We went to a fancy new restaurant and the waiter was sloshed, or something!! He talked endlessly in slow, slurred speech about really weird stuff, mostly none of which had anything to do with dinner. He spoke about the Hungarian uprising in 1956, how he was part of Cirque du Soliel, how he's a comedy writer, yadda, yadda. Thoughout the meal he kept butting into our conversations like he was part of our group, then talking about himself. At one point he came to the table with his shirt completely unbuttoned and his tie slung over his shoulder. The owner soon came by to apologize and she offered to comp our meal. She said she planned to fire him at the end of the evening, but she was afraid to do it while the restaurant was open for fear he'd make a scene in front of customers. DH asked her to make sure he doesn't come back to our table, and thankfully he didn't.

At the time it was happening this was really maddening but later we were laughing about it. I kept expecting Alan Funt to come out and tell us we're on Candid Camera, and this guy was only pretending to be a drunk, annoying creep. It didn't happen, but we'll be laughing about this guy for a long time.

Rave: I'm going to the DFW area to visit a friend for the weekend.

Happy St. Patty's Day, all!!

SuzieTrue Mar 17th, 2006 04:26 AM

Rave: One more week until family heads to Florida for our cruise.

Rave: Down to the weight I want for cruise.

Rave: Good medical news from CAPH.

Rant: Still need to get through the Michigan High School Skating Championship that I am chairing. Thank God it it tomorrow!

Rant: Parents who only complain about non-academic concerns like Safety Patrol, while ignoring poor grades, late work, missing medications, etc.

Rave: It is a sunny St. Pat's Day.

bennnie Mar 17th, 2006 04:56 AM

Go mairir an céad, is bliain chun aithrí!
(May you live to be one hundred and one year for repentence!)

Happy St. Patricks Day. I hope you enjoy the great craic! Slainte!

ethel Mar 17th, 2006 05:27 AM

A humongous RAVE for Caph and husband and family. I am so very, very happy for you. You truly deserve this great news. (I posted on your other thread but for some reason it is not showing up).

I am going to not rant about anything this week, because life is too short to bitch about the little things (remind me of that next week).

Rave: It's my dad's birthday and I'm having a bunch of family over tonight for my famous lasagna!

Rave: Fiance and I have finally decided that we are going to Vegas for our honeymoon. We love it there and it has so many things to offer for both of us...Now, if only we could decide on hotel. Suite at TI, Bally's, Barbary Coast or Flamingo. We may consider staying in a nicer place for 4 nights and then Barbary Coast for 2 nights. Who knows.

Anyway, guess that's all. Hope everyone has a great St. Patty's day. I've always wished I was Irish. I do have the red hair and hazel eyes, and pale skin, though, so I guess I'll play one today.

ronkala Mar 17th, 2006 05:31 AM

Starrsville, go for it. There's nothing like a cat to add warmth to a home.

Rave.
Heading to Savannah on Sunday for a couple of days. Can't wait to eat the fresh seafood. We miss that here in the valley.

Fodorite018 Mar 17th, 2006 05:33 AM

CAPH--That is SUCH wonderful news!!!!!

Scarlett--Enjoy having DS home!

Rave--DD won her first tennis match.

Rant--Got our taxes back from the CPA yesterday. OUCH!!!!!

Rave--I am learning to knit, lol! Taking a class with friends and we make a day of it...class, lunch and shopping. Of course the kids are teasing us about being "old" and asked when bingo was, lol!

JJ5 Mar 17th, 2006 05:43 AM

Rave: Caph52's good news and her upcoming trip. I knew it was just in the cards.

RAVE: My best friend's heart valve replacement is over and 48 hours later all is going pretty good. Her husband called me last night and talked for 1/2 hour. Now he says he can put away the casket/service directions. Yes, that's how organized she is! Hope they don't need them for decades.

Rant: I have a lot so I'll make it short. Mom is horrendous, Dad is falling apart, my guy has had flu for the entire week, and now I feel like I'm getting it too, just when they need me at two places. Will miss the St.Patrick's Day party tonight too, I know I will. Food looks obnoxious.

Rave: Everyone's good news, children's visits and klr6773 herself. I've been there klr6773, better now than later, always.

Have a good St.Patrick's Day everyone and on St. Joseph's Day on Sunday, please say a prayer for my family. God, give me a fast heart attack any day.

Rachel Mar 17th, 2006 06:00 AM

G-R-E-A-T N-E-W-S CAPH! Its a rave for all of us. Enjoy your trip. You and your DH deserve it.

RAVES: Its been a good week. Surprise meeting with an old friend-we were both getting take out lunches so we dined in together instead. We met as young pregnant lawyers (waiting to see a judge) and our babies went to day care together. Those babies are both in college now, and both doing well. Good evidence that kids of working parents can turn out ok after all. The young lawyers did ok too-shes a judge, and I'm, well, not a judge, but happy doing my thing, helping my seniors and consumers through their legal mazes.

Green Bagels for St. Pat's Day!!! Corned Beef to go on the green bagels!!!

RANT: DH has to go on Lipitor. the poor guy watches what he eats, exercises plenty, keeps his weight down, and just has lousy genetics. He's so disappointed. But at least its better to know and hopefully live a long life ( so I can annoy him for a really long time) instead of all the lives cut short in his family because of heart problems. In the big picture, having to medicate something isnt that big of a Rant.

RANT or RAVE: The Doc told me to drink more fluids...does that mean I can double my Jack Daniels intake? Just kidding....off to the water cooler.

Have a great weekend all. Enjoy St. Pats and March Madness. Go Pitt!

otto Mar 17th, 2006 06:00 AM

rave: last saturday (glorious in ny) walked across the brooklyn bridge and had grimaldis pizza! it was great.

rave: st. patricks day! only that much closer to ireland trip in may.

rant/rave: friends going through tough times, but we have each other to see it through.

caph...that is the most fabulous news!

starrsville...i couldn't agree more. things in life come to you, in their own natural time. even when i think otherwise, i get proven wrong. ;-)

btilke...that must have been amazing. you made me think of this book i read years ago, by a buddhist dr.(converted from jewish) who ran retreats to the concentration camps. of course the people who went were from all backgrounds, but it was the only book that has ever made me cry.

CarolM Mar 17th, 2006 06:09 AM

Rave: I get to travel to Austin, Texas this upcoming week, for a conference.

Rant: It's doubtful I'll be able to see much more than the inside of the hotel and convention center! Cross your fingers I can escape and experience some of the city, which I hear is great.... maybe for some late night fun. Texans, all suggestions are welcome!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
((B)) =:)

GoTravel Mar 17th, 2006 06:11 AM

Rave: CAPH's husband is in remission!

Rave: 400 slip luxury marina being built on Lake Worth (Palm Beach area) and developer called Mr.GoTravel and asked him if he would be interested in opening a restaurant there. Don Shula's is already going in.

Rave: I really really wanna live in South Florida.

Rave: I'm alive and well and have my health.

Rave: The love, support, and prayers and family and friends CAN get you through your darkest hours.

Rave: Miz Scarlett's baby is coming home!

Rave: Winter has left my part of South Carolina even though we still have a cold snap at night. I can tell by the shadows the sun makes and by the humidity. Spring IS in the air.

Rave: Spring is a time of new beginnings.

Rave: starrsville's new white kitty cat. Nothing like a kitty purring in your lap to make you feel loved (ahem, except if your kitty is like mine was last night all sweet and cute in my lap and kept passing gas).

OWJ; I hope your husband's back gets better.

Rave: Jorr for starting the FFR&R

Vicky Mar 17th, 2006 06:18 AM

Happy for CAPH's news - have a GREAT trip to Ireland.

Rave - Leave for Switzerland Tues
Rant - Weather supposed to be bad but how often is the weather report right anyway!
Rave - Work has been so much fun that I fall into giggling fits all day. My spirit feels pounds lighter (and body is getting lighter too - down to 108. I have such a long commute though that gas and parking fees really eat up my check so I was looking for a transfer to another state agency closer to home witih free parking. well one came open - a lateral transfer... still in HR but different area - but suddenl I dont' want to leave. I know what i'm doing, am good at it, my boss thinks I'm great, my co workers think I'm great and amusing; I have a nice boss; I can wear whatever I want, jeans on Fri... the other job sounds so 'serious' and I have trouble acting grown up for any length of time... Job is open until Mar 29 but I will be out of country the 21 to 29 so really no time to decide and bid on it. guess there will always be another opportunity - and I am planning to move to the SW in the fall anyway.

Tess Mar 17th, 2006 06:21 AM

GREAT news for many on the board--we can never hear enough good news!!

klr6773--I'm sorry about your pup and the turmoil your family is going through. Things WILL get better.

fun4all4--glad to hear your son's first soccer game was a winning one! I'm still checking out Bolton games and a trip to England for 2007. Think it would be a perfect graduation gift/family trip and it was fun hearing about your family's experience.

Rave: DH turned 17 on Wednesday. We celebrated by attending his National Honor Society induction then had cake and presents afterwards. Had a good mommy weep in the bathtub later--where did my little baby go? Now he's 6 ft. 3 and almost grown up--we feel blessed, though. What a great kid. First high school soccer game of the season is tomorrow and DS is starting. LOVE soccer season!

Rant: This week my mom found out that she has melanoma. They're going to take more skin samples next week to stage it. Very scary but we're thinking positive.

Rave: Going shopping in Colorado today with DD and mom--girls day out and it will keep our minds off of scarier things.

Happy St. Patrick's day to fellow Irishmen! (isn't everyone Irish for today at least? :-) )

flygirl Mar 17th, 2006 06:31 AM

CAPH - great news!

My rave - my little niece came home from the hospital late last week - she's a preemie, her due date is April 3 but she was born January 27!

I am back from Florida, had a great time, my house in SC is framed in and looks great - likely will be done in 2 months now.

everyone in the family is happy and healthy.

no complaints!

iw Mar 17th, 2006 06:47 AM

I have been reading this post for close to a year, but have never responded. What great news for CAPH52! :)
OneWanderingJew....I feel your pain with the IEP's. I teach, also. Today is #124 of 183 in the school year for me. I am already thinking of my vacation to St. Kitts/Nevis/St. Martin in late June/July!
Rave: taking a day off to celebrate DH's 40th
No real rants...only house cleaning is the worst.
Happy St. Patrick's Day to all!

AuntAnnie Mar 17th, 2006 06:50 AM

CAPH: YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!! Celebrate life!!
Tess: So sorry to hear about your Mom. Good luck!!
OneWanderingJew: I have a Special Ed degree but am currently teaching in School Readiness. I well remember the IEP blues!! Good luck!

Rant: We got over a foot of new snow this week in 2 separate storms. Schools were closed on Monday and Thursday here. It is pretty but I am sick of shovelling and I want Spring!!

Rave: One week from today I will be on the beach in Galveston!!

klr6773 Mar 17th, 2006 06:54 AM

Happy St Patty's everyone!!

Rave:At 3 yrs old,Kaelan thinking that bringing cupcakes in for her little schoolmates to celebrate 'her day' today is the coolest thing in the world!

If only life could stay that simple!

kureiff Mar 17th, 2006 06:56 AM

Yay for CAPH! And I'm so glad that P_M is dancing and yodelling!

Scarlett: Happy Birthday and enjoy the time with your boy. And thank you for the wonderful Portland suggestions.

Ethel: I love hearing your wedding plans.

MMS: I'm a beginning knitter, too. I've completed one scarf and three hats for my toddler (but only one of the hats really turned out *embarassed smiley*). May I join you at Bingo?

Rave: A beautiful day!

Rave: I'm finally reading the "Time Travellers Wife" and I love it so much.

Rave: More cross country skiing tomorrow.

Rants: None. I'm so happy for CAPH's news!

Rave: CAPH52 How wonderful! I can't imagine the joy and relief you and your family are feeling. So happy for you.

Rave: Life in NJ is good.

Rave: 56 days 'til St. John vacation! ((#))

Mini-rant: Pulled out summer clothes for assesment for STJ trip. How did my clothes shrink over the winter? :O I guess I'd better get myself to the gym!

Happy Birthday Scarlett! ((^))

Kureiff - I'm reading "The Time Traveller's Wife" too. I'm more than 3/4 through and don't want it to end!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! %%- ((B)) Trish

kamahinaohoku Mar 17th, 2006 07:12 AM

Rave: I finally got up the nerve to post a rave on a Friday!

Rave: CAPH - You and Mr. CAPH are truly blessed.

Rave: My renewal passport FINALLY arrived yesterday! 14 days til Tahiti! :))
((S))((*))

lcuy Mar 17th, 2006 07:29 AM

Rave: Five hours till I fly off to Portland, Or, Boston and then NYC!

Get to celebrate my best friend/college roommate's 50th birthday with her, then visit both my daughters at their colleges, and meet some Fodorites in Boston!

Rant: I've been sick all week. For some reason chemo hit me hard this time, or maybe I'm actually sick from a real flu! Not sick today, but feel drained after staying in bed so long. Thank goodness HNL and PDX airports are both small.

Congrats Caph and strenghth to klr6772!

Best wishes to Scarlett and your baby boy! I'm not going to try and contact you in Portland, Scarlett, cuz I know your time with DS is so limited.

And I gotta RAVE about my DH, who never grumbles when I pay for yet another air ticket and fly off for two weeks to satisfy my travel and social "needs". I am so lucky!

Happy St Patrick's Day everyone!

Lucy

rjw_lgb_ca Mar 17th, 2006 07:44 AM

Rave: Caph's great news. It sure feels good when you hear those words, doesn't it?

Rant: Another rainy, nippy weekend. So now we're paying for the days in February in the low 90s...! Winter's last grip. But WHY on Saint Patrick's Day...?!

Rave: My sister's sense of humor. She will be starting a new Phase 1 drug made by our good friends at Imclone. Her observation? "Maybe I should call Martha for some advice!" Her doctors won't give up, she won't give up, and dammit, NO ONE is giving up!!!! She's been off chemo for several weeks now and feels wonderful, so now's the time to start up again while her overall health is excellent.

Rave: Next weekend we'll be up in San Francisco! Short trip, but we deserve it.

Rant: Hatred and intolerance still keep us from making the world better.

Rave: A new generation is coming up that ignores the stupidity of its elders and just says: "Everyone's cool, everyone's equal. What's the big deal?!"

Rave: Happy St. Patrick's Day!! %%-

jorr Mar 17th, 2006 08:13 AM

iw, Glad you posted. Everyone is welcome and everyone who posts was a newcomer at some point!

CAPH, Yahoo. I got some very good health news about a year ago and it felt so good.

jorr Mar 17th, 2006 08:24 AM

How could I forget this?

Rave: I saw the first Robin and the first Gold Finches this morning back from their winter vacations.

Rant: Those three pesky squirrels ate the last of the sunflower seeds in the bird feeder yesterday and the Gold Finches didn't get anything. I hope they don't fly away to look for a better restaurant.

Kinch500 Mar 17th, 2006 08:31 AM

Rave: I am going to post on this thread finally.

Rave: We are building a swimming pool and construction has started. YEAHHHHH!

Rant: Hubby installed some new front doors to our house and hasnt quite finished them yet.
