Freaky Friday Rants and Raves 12-2
Rave: This is so good to be true I never thought it could really be true. There is a small town (no stop lights small) here in north central Minnesota called Ashby. They are selling prescription drugs for one tenth to one quarter the price that Wal-Mart and other "discount" stores are sell for. I ordered a drug from them for $6.75. Wal-Mart charges $73.95!!!!. and shipping will be less than $1. Its called Borg Drug. http://www.borgdrug.com. They have a detailed price list for hundreds of drugs. >:D<
Rant: I wish I would have known about this earlier. I would have saved about $600 per year. ((i)) Rave: I didn't get hit by the huge power outages this week. ((s)) Rave: I'm going to get my house set up for a gas powered generator so I'm not stuck in the cold if it happens here. One winter the elect. was off for four days and we had to abandon the house. C:-) Rave: There are no generators left in my area but I found the right one on the internet which is on its way with a click of the mouse. =D> |
Rant: I'm up early enough to be #2! Guess my "internal alarm clock" that woke me up at 3am didn't get the message that I was off today!
Rave: Finally found out who the "other person from Jersey" is at work. Sounds silly, but apparently quite a few people in the warehouse were trying to figure out who we were (saw the license plates) rant: Got the drivers license and insurance taken care of, but still no WA plates, as bank is difficult& slow to send a copy of title to licensing so I can get plates already. Hope I don't get pulled over because I'm not sure how being "2/3 legal" would sit with police. that's actually part of a bigger rant: Vet in NJ doesn't want to send dog's file to new vet in WA,-needed due to his new found enlarged heart and liver and daughter's Dr. wants $1.00 a page to transfer file! holding my files hostage and profiting on my move! Happy Friday! attemting to go get holiday shopping done today-2 weeks earlier than usual! |
Hi and Happy Friday to all. I seem more tired this week. It must be the holiday rush beginning. My company is gone and I have the laundry to prove it!
Rave: My daughter's chorus sang last night and they were wonderful. She really has a nice voice. I can rant and rave for the holidays. I love the magic of Christmas, but hate the shopping and the selling of it. Rant: Put the Christmas back into the holiday greetings. Tired of people ditching the word Christmas to be politically correct. So, I say Merry Christmas and Happy Hannaukah and Happy New Year to all!!! Don't like generics holiday greetings.. RAVE: to keep the theme of travel, I look forward to getting some real Hawaii planning going in the new year. It seemed so far away before, but April will be here before you know it! |
Rave: It's not only Friday, it's my last work day before vacation.
Rant: I purchased Best Western Travel cards for our vacation next week and now the hotel is no longer affiliated with Best Western! (now what?) |
Rave: I've purchased all the airfare and gotten the apartment reserved for my mother's surprise birthday trip to Rome in March.
Rave: I'm flying her first class for a once in a lifetime experience. Of course, sis and I will be back in cattle class. :) Rant: It's been hotter than Hades here for this time of year. Please send some snow this way! ;) Rave: DH and I are both off this weekend, which is a rarity. Other than Christmas decorating, we are looking forward to relaxing together. Rave: Good books set in Venice that neither of us can put down lately. Have a fabulous weekend, everyone! :) |
Rave: Wonderful Thanksgiving in Pátzcuaro, Michoacán.
Rave: Christmas in Barra de Navidad on the Costalegre, Jalisco (actually, the Hot is on the Island in the state of Colima). Gone fishing, lol. Rave: Back to Morelia/Zitácuaro, Michoacán for the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuaries in Feb. Rave: SFO/China in Mar/Apr. Rave: SMdA has two stop lights on the ring road: had to retrain myself to watch for them on the recent trip. jorr, do you know the source of the meds from Borg? Feliz fin de semana. M |
Good morning!
Rant: My leg is still in a cast. And it's so slippery outside. Crutches and ice don't mix well. Rave: I see the ortho doctor on Monday. The cast MIGHT come off Keep your fingers crossed for me, won't you? Rant: No vacation planned :-( Rave: Bathroom and living room are being re-done. I've been putting it off for a long time so that I could take vacations. Hey, you can't have everything! Rant: The houses in my neighborhood are going to be re-assessed and expected to go up up up! Give me a break, I live in the city. Nothing is going up except crime! The city is so desperate for money that they're going to chase away the few of us who stick around and take care of our properties. I'm gonna fight this one. Rave: I have a house to live in and broken legs heal, so I don't really have any problems!!!! Have a great weekend everyone! |
Rave: A wonderful Thanksgiving road trip to Houston with a few days in Hot Springs at the baths on the way down and some time in Memphis at the Peabody on the way back.
Rave: Weather in the 70's and 80's during vacation!! Rant: Snow, snow, snow this morning all over my porch furniture that I did not bring inside for the winter before leaving on vacation. Statia what a great gift you're giving your Mom! Jorr, those meds sound too good to be true....you'll have to keep us updated. Happy weekend to all. |
jorr,
Just checked with Borg Drug: my single RX is $145. + $10. S/H for 90 tabs from CanadaDrugsOnline.com Borg wants $284.15 + 2.5%CC H/$3.00 shipping. I have high deductible indemnity health insurance, so I pay small expenses out of pocket. Not so great afterall. M |
BuffaloGirl, keeping my fingers crossed for you!
cd, I figure it's the least I can do after all the years she spent raising me so well. ;) |
mikemo, I assume the drugs come from the same maufacturers that other drug stores get them from. The owner sells them at low prices as his way of protesting high drug prices and makes up for the losses with high volume. It must be working because he has been in business for six years.
I should be getting my meds in the mail this afternoon and will compare with empty bottle from the chain drug store I have used and post with the results. |
Rant: Due to high fuel costs my school office is a moderately frigid 67 degrees.
Rave: I've lost 8 pounds just in time for DH's office holiday party. |
rave: thanksgiving was great! it was family and friends, in the new kitchen. a light hearted thanksgiving! food was great, and i met otto's little sister, our kitten lola!
rave: the holidays. i so i am not one of those people who complain about christmas shopping! i love it. i love the music, the decorations, choosing the perfect gift, i put alot of effort into it...i was shopping first thing last, friday morning and i'm sure i'll be shopping christmas eve. looking forward to the snow! (just not messy, slushy snow!) :D |
Rave:
Christmas parade and tree lighting in the courthouse square tonight in Woodstock. Another + for small town living. Rant.... 2113 |
Rave: Atlantic Canada is basking in mild temperatures for this time of year.
Rave: Hubby had to mow the lawn yesterday. Grass looks lovely and green. Rave: Christmas shopping done ! Rant: Dad diagnosed with aortic anuersym. ( spelling ? ). It's at the stage where it needs surgery. Rant: Stupid doctor who tells my father he's "walking around with a time bomb...". Had him terrified to move, until another, more empathic physician explained he would be ok until surgery happened. Rave: We are keeping positive that everything will be fine. |
Rant: Its been a bad bad bad week. Two friends have been injured (1 car accident and 1 fall both resulting in broken bones) and one friend lost her 17 year old son very suddenly and tragically. My friends' bones will heal but how do you get over the loss of a child.
Rave: Again I am reminded of how blessed I am. |
I forgot this rant: 3 degrees this morning and a cold front is moving in this weekend.
|
bennnie, so tragic to hear of your friend losing their son. I am sure that nothing could be worse. So incredibly sad for them ...
Wagonwheel, I am sending best wishes for your Father, that his surgery goes well and that he will be back full-stride before you know it! RAVE: My Fodors friends who have been so warm and kind as I let my sweet brother go this week. I wanted to let you know that his Wake was so appropriate for him ... there was a Memorial Table set up which included a beautiful painting that he'd done of the historic Mabry Mill, a huge tray of perfect vegetables in celebration of all the lovely gardens he's grown, photo albums depicting his family life and his musical life. His banjo stood near the head of his casket, and the floral tribute from our family contained a miniature violin/fiddle. (My brother had taught himself to play all the stringed instruments by the time he was eight, a talent inherited from our father.) Bluegrass gospel played throughout the evening ... and it was all such a perfect tribute to a truly outstanding human being. I know I will hear his music in my heart always. Thank you again, for your support through this time. ((l)) RAVE: Three weeks or so until Christmas ... I hope this season will be really festive and fun for all of you! Have a good weekend, everybody in Fodorville! :-) |
Bennnie,
Truly every parent's worst nightmare...I can't bear to think about it and am so sorry for your friend. Rant: Even with better eating, exercise and light dose of medication, my blood pressure's been way up the past two weeks. Very disheartening, considering I'm 'only' 43. I tend to be a worrywart and know that's partially to blame. Rave: My husband will be home tonight after spending the week in Minneapolis on business--the house seems empty without him--even the dog is mopey! Rant: That we had a marvelous Thanksgiving with both sides of the family and a fun trip to Boulder, Colo. to see Nebraska beat Colorado in football last week. Rant: That two sections of Colorado fans had to be removed from the stadium for throwing bottles, etc. onto the field. For awhile I wondered if we'd get out of the stadium safely. What a black mark on their school. Rave: No work today--it's 8:10 a.m. and I'm still in my jammies :-) Happy weekend, everyone! |
oops, I always do that. My Thanksgiving should have been a 'rave,' of course!
|
Rave: Only a few more days until my downtown Chicago vacation.
Rave: Time with my parents- never thought they would make it to 60. Their 60th Wedding Anniversary is this week. They got married on a 3 day furlough in Dec. in Chicago. The photographer (my uncle) had to go get treated for frostbite hands after the ceremony. My father was a handsome blonde devil in his dress uniform. They borrowed all the bridal clothes, and couldn't be married on the altar (ceremony was in the outside vestible) because he wasn't Catholic. It's just as cold on their anniversary. jorr, it's 14 degrees today and failing. Rant: The beautiful church is no longer there- it was demolished as was most of the block it was on. Rave: I did get my driver's license renewed after dealing with Cook County Motor Vehicle problems, MUCHO problems. Not mine; theirs. 6 hours wasted on the only day I had to do this before the "right" place had computers all working. And then a 2 hour wait in mazes before my number came up for the test. All else done in less than an hour. Aren't you glad you live somewhere else! Rant: The written test was hard. Polish and Mexican girls crying all over the place. More questions about changing DUI laws and levels and signs on moving vehicles etc. These are not even displayed in the Rules of the Road book. More trivia then the things that are evident in driving every day and that you NEED to know. Grrrrr! Rant: Bureaucracy- this is supposed to be MY government, working for ME the citizen. NOT! Rave: Generators and FreezeGuard units that let you know when temps go below freezing inside any enclosed space. Rant: That you can't buy any temp units or Freezeguards that don't need an additional phoneline hook up. ANY entrepreneur out there who wants to invent one that will have calling capacity of 2 or 3 calls (all contained in the same one price unit)? you will be a zillionaire! It's possible now with strong cells and getting a network to support it on a one time fee basis. Rave: Shared trips and activities instead of more "stuff" as gifts. I give out "this is good for one day at Six Flags with Grandma" sort of tickets. Have a good weekend. Decorating, baking in the works for me. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all! |
Rant: ice (Sunday), ice storm (Sunday night), snow on top of that (Monday).
Rave: we didn't lose power as many people did. Rave: power companies asking us to conserve electricity so no more transformers would go down. Rant: people who had their Christmas lights on when we were supposed to be limiting power use. Rave: no wind and bright sunshine (yesterday and today). Belated condolences, Bonniebroad. Your brother's memorial service sounds like an appropriate tribute. |
rant: it is really really cold outside
rave: I'm still on vacation rant: I have to return to work on monday rave: I've finished my christmas cards rant: the shopping is still not done |
Rave(s) Great trip to Providence Place with daughter this week. Lots of Cristmas shopping done.
Spending weekend with daughter in Ct.and more shopping at West Farms Mall. Nothing like helping the economy along. Love the season- taking youngest grandchild to see The Nutcracker next weekend. The boys said "yuck", but she can't wait! May this season lift the spirits of those saddened by loss. |
capecodshanty, I don't know how old your little grandchild is but I hope he/she will be more thrilled with "The Nutcracker" than my wee granddaughter was a couple of years ago. We got all dressed up, went to a beautiful old theater in Boston, sat down, and the ballet began!
I was enjoying it so much, but about ten minutes in, my just-six year old GD gently nudged me and said, "Granny, something's wrong! Nobody's talking ..." :-d So I said, "Sweetie, that's how it's supposed to be. But just wait, it will get much better." I let her crawl onto my lap for a better view, she snuggled down for about ten minutes, then gently nudged me ... "Granny?" I said "Yes?" She whispered, "It's not getting any better ..." :-d (MORAL: Never let your grandchild watch The Nutcracker Barbie Movie before she sees the real thing! :-) ) |
Rant: My youngest son and his WONDERFUL wife are getting a divorce. He revealed this two nights prior to Thanksgiving. Of course, that meant a very somber holiday. I've had several sleepless nights over this, as I don't understand it! They seemed so in love! She 'just doesn't want to be married at this point in her life'.
Rant: ...that means we are having to assist DS financially. He is a full time student until the end of May...when he was planning on going to Grad School...but now he will have to get a full time job instead. Rant: They had ff tickets/accomodations (hers) to New York (son's dream) to check out Rutgers for grad school, but that's off now....what a waste of potential travel! Rave: I've finally had some sleep! Rave: Christmas parties tonight! I'm not the proverbial 'social butterfly', but it often seems that events come in pairs...either making me choose or requiring a 'juggling act'! Rant: Dread the Christmas tree decorating. It's sitting in the living room awaiting me now! It's alittle more than the usual dread as my joints, esp. hands have been bothering me lately! The right one is slightly swollen today. Guess I'm going to have to break down and go to the Dr. soon, but being a PT, I don't hold out much hope of significant relief...have tried Celebrex and Vioxx and do not want to take corticosteroids...ugh! I'm SOooo sorry to hear of the loss of the child and the all broken bones! A friend lost her son a few years ago, just prior to HS graduation (my youngest was also in the class). It was so unexpected and they never did really come up with a cause...just dropped dead...supposedly asthma, but he'd had no prior incident or history! Rave: Happy for you jorr!! I do LOVE a deal!!:) Bonniebroad: I'm sorry for your loss! But it sounds like you had a most beautiful and remarkable service! Hope you can focus on all those good memories. JJ5: Hurray! I'm so glad for your parents successfull marriage! It don't come easy! Ha! I'm proud for you and them! I don't really understand the reason you were having to be tested again...did I miss something? Glad you made it though! Have a good week! Belle |
Another little rant:
This week on Fodors, I stumbled across a post of a house with Christmas lights and it had been coordinated with music...it was quite spectacular! I got off the site in haste,so DH could look something up, but I cannot find the site again....anyone know what I'm talking about?? Belle |
BonnieBroad- that's a wonderful story!! Fortunately she has not yet seen the Barbie version- (she's just 4/12).Her older brothers had seen a local rendition,on a field trip for their elementary grades , which was why the "yuck" comment! I will read her the story before we go, and let her know it is told in "dance"!

Rave-Bermuda bound in five days!
Rant-sad things happening in folks' lives during the holidays Rave-familiar names still showing up on this board Rant-waiting five days to be Bermuda bound. Happy holidays. |
Rave--Had a really nice trip to Seattle last weekend. Saw old friends, family, and played tourist.
Rant--Son ended up with bronchitis. Rave--Went with girlfriends to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert the other night. Great show! Rave--Going to the Singing Christmas Tree show tonight with the family. Rant--No Christmas tree yet. Did not get back from Seattle in time to do it while it was dry out. Now trying to find the time. Rave--My rants are minor. Bennie--So sorry to hear about that child. Truly a parents worst nightmare. Wagonwheel--Sending best wishes for your dad. Glad that another doctor was able to put his mind at peace a bit. Bonnie--What a sweet tribute to your brother. JJ5--Congrats to your parents! OSB--Sorry to hear about your son and DIL. Just remember, you never know and things may still work out. Still, I can imagine that it must be very stressfull for everyone. BTW, that house/light show site is at http://members.cox.net/transam/lights.wmv The music is from the orchestra I saw the other night! |
Greetings all my FFR&R'ers ~
Statia dear ~ I think you are incredibe. I wish you such enjoyment this spring with your Mom & sis. Glad to see you 'found' and booked your Rome bungalow! I think what you are doing is beautiful. Safe journey. CAPH ~ Thinking of you and how it went after your DH's last chemo, and how he held up last weekend... sending him (and you!) strength. Wagonwheel ~ Sorry for your Dad, and the doctor that stated what he did. I am sending you Dad good health wsihes and his doctor a bed side manner and some good old fashioned common sense! No rants or raves really, just a thought... Ever answer someone's post and then realize that you kind of missed the boat on what their question was? There was a post on the Europe board that was asking Fodorites ages 30's and 40's to answer where they have traveled to, I thought "Oh, this is a fun question, my DH and I are right in the middle of that age group, I'll answer" and my fingers starting flying on the keyboard. But then after I posted I realized the OP put Europe in the header, and wanted to to know where in Europe only. Oops. I felt a little foolish. :@ I love those types of threads, where are you traveling to, where have you lived, I find it so interesting, I guess I just kind of 'went' with it, lol. Peace to all. A hug to those who need one. ((L)) |
So many were posting while I was getting tea and posting!
OSB ~ I am sorry! I hope it all works out for your DS. He is lucky to you have. My cmcfong ~ Sweetie, Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! Can't wait to hear all about it! Bennnie ~ I am truly sorry about your friend's son. How tragic. Tess ~ I SO know what you mean, our little Sophie, we can tell when one of us is not here, she is such a love, and acts differently, your word 'mopey' is a good one. Hope your DH didn't freeze too much in our city. Glad he will be getting warmed by you soon! Bonniebroad ~ what a beautiful tribute for your brother, again you and yours are in my prayers and thoughts. What a hard time of year to lose a loved one. A hug for you, my dear! |
Hi, Tiff. Thanks for the good wishes. I promise a trip report when I get back. I love Bermuda!
|
|
Rave: meeting with CaliNurse.
Rant: December is the busiest month at work, won't have as much time for Internet, will have to work during some days off. Rave: I will be paid overtime, just imagine how many additional falafels, fondues and souvenirs I'll be earning :) Rave: air, tour, hotel reservations are done, now I can take my time, relax, and search for everything else for upcoming March vacations! Rant: not going anywhere till March... Rave: hopefully Chanukah will get "unstapled" from other holidays, why can't they understand we are all different, and don't want to be a part of a political or religious "salad"? Rave: no more rain in San Francisco! BonnieBroad, BuffaloGirl: syber-hugs! |
Thanks so much for the sweet well wishes, Tiff. I do believe it is going to be a very special trip. :)
|
OldSouthernBelle, they are doing re-tests now every so many years, especially if your address changes counties (as mine did). But besides that they make EVERYONE who has had a ticket and not gone to traffic school for it, retest as well. It's stupid as most of the facilities are called "express" and don't have that capacity. So everyone is driving long distances etc. to get to a place that has it. Mine was the next county over. I had a traffic ticket for going 37 in a 25 about 10 years ago. LOL! a total farm trap. But that and the county change probably kicked me out into the written test pool.
Divorce is so common. I'm sorry for your son. Be especially kind to him. We see many instances here of very short marriages now. Even less than 2 years length. Don't you wonder why people do get married when their psyche and belief systems are totally mired in the root belief that they, themselves, are "entitled" to individual happiness and maximum growth? Marriage isn't necessarily on the same page as that even in the very best of times. So easy to do, so hard to undo that kind of hurt. It's an epidemic with wonderful young women, I'm afraid. Losing a child, IMHO, is the worst thing. No words really work but being there in quiet is good too. We've had several friends lose children. One also just dropped during CrossCountry at 17. One that was the best hockey player I every saw at 16, od'd at 20. They are very missed. Sorry about your brother, Bonniebroad. You have all given me renewed energy to get the decorating going. I'm starting tonight. |
JJ5, congrats to your parents and their 60th.
Yes, I'm glad I do not live in Cook County. I lived in Bexar County, Pop. over a million for several years and everything like that was more difficult. My parents had one of those temp. alert things hooked up to their phone line when they use to winter in Arizona. It did not require a second phone line. Maybe you should research it more and find the brand which they had. I don't remember the brand. Good health to everyone, and sorry for those who do not have good health. I'm still going to post when that drug delivery comes about an hour from now. Opps! I mean Prescription drug delivery. |
Tiff,
My husband LOVES your city! The company he works for is located there so he travels to Minn./St. Paul every few months. He stays downtown and 'has' to dine out with others every night--last night was Ruths Chris. Poor guy--the kids and I had leftovers sloppy joes, on the other hand. LOL. |
Rave: I am finally finally FINALLY going on vacation! I leave tonight for Australia & New Zealand for two weeks!
Rave: Contracts are signed - we've sold our Brooklyn condo. Rant: Closing date is Jan 13th, and we have no idea where we're going to live then....not even sure if we're going to stay in NY. ?: BF hopes we really like Sydney :) |
