Are private schools out on break this week (I know public ones were last week)? If they are, that would explain quite a bit of the activity here...
|
Wow! I never thought much about rainforests specifically until now!
According to my Yahoo search, temperate rainforests are rare (more common are the tropical rainforests) and occur in only seven areas around the world. The North American West Coast contains a large percentage of the remaining temperate rainforests, stretchng from Alaska to Northern California. Multinomah Falls in Oregon, for example, is located in a temperate rainforest. Supposedly even some of the redwood forests in the far north of California are also considered temperate rainforests. Temperate rainforests are very critical, but are being cut at an alarming rate. Temperate rainforests turn carbon dioxide into breathable air. They also provide for a lot of rainfall (ergo the rainfall in Seattle!), because only 20% of the rain remains on the ground. The rest of the water is in the plants and is evaporated into the air (thus forming rain). Do your own google/yahoo search into this fascinating subject! I now understand why the logging around Wrangell Alaska had to be stopped, despite the severe economic consequences to several thousand residents in that area. Preserving those trees are much more important! Help preserve these wonderful forests which are so essential to the earth's total ecosystem! |
Another temperate rain forest in Washington: Ohanapecosh in Mt Rainier NP. Also the area at Cape Lookout, jutting into the ocean on the Three Capes Loop (near Tillamook) in Oregon is a temperate rain forest. I'm sure there are more. Just about any old growth forest on the coast or in a wet inland area in the PNW is a temperate rain forest.

At www.weatherbase.com it confirms that Seattle only has an average of 71 clear days a year!! That's right!! Only 71 clear days!! Less than 2 1/2 months!!
My point is proven!! And I am done with this topic. The rest of you all who don't believe it's true, can enjoy living in denial. |

Personally I DO hope you are finally done with this topic, but your point is most certain NOT proven quoting weather websites...
I'm sitting here looking out my window and the sun is shining and skies are clear in Seattle right now. Do you even live in Seattle, red_dog? |
I haven't seen red_dog answer any direct questions. But I think he must live in Portland---on the east side.
|
Geez, red_dog, you're a bit slow aren't you? I gave you that stat 5 days ago - and compared it to Duluth. The differences between the two aren't as big as one would think.
Point not proven. You have your right to your opinion, but you are demonstrating your "facts" aren't accurate - just your opinion. Wish is fine for this board 'cause it is an OPINION board. Just stop asserting yourself as the expert - and discounting other Fodorites. |
so true enzian. red_dog won't talk TO us, he only talks AT us.
his 'facts' are merely his own skewed opinions stated loudly and repeatedly. gawd i wish he'd move to Duluth and leave us in peace. How the heck did he find Fodor's anyways? And can't we get him banned with the "this post isn't about travel" criteria -lol. |
Red Dog-
I think Duluth is tossing you a bone. Go fetch. woof |
Scarlett,
Enjoy Alvin Ailey in Portland! I saw them there twice, more years ago than I choice to remember. And all of you here in the PNW--enjoy this glorious SUNSHINE! |
red_dog?
Don't you have any friends? Why do you just choose to cause turmoil? Don't you have anything better to do? Go to a ball game, dude! |
Did anyone see Rainier around 5 pm? The top half rising above the (dare I say it?) clouds around the base. . . it was lovely.
|
I'm mystified and confused.
This thread seemed to be a discussion about the rain in Seattle, but there seems to be a lot of negative comments against red-dog. Is he/she a troll? In another thread, red-dog praises Seattle as a "fantastic city", so not all his/her comments about Seattle are negative. What's going on? |
Red_dog is indeed a troll. We are keeping this going because of one person's observation that the sun came out on the day this started, and it has been out ever since. . . If you live in Seattle, you will understand.
|
Yes, Rainer was amazing today...and yesterday too with the (yes) cloud formation by the side almost appearing as another mountain.
Hi, easytraveler! When are you going to come visit? |
another sunny day (reporting from downtown Seattle)
|
Oh Pleeeezeee. It is overcast plenty in Seattle and those of us who live here know it. So, it's sunny today. Sunny today, rainy tomorrow. People who don't like overcast skies should stay in sunnier climes. Traffic is bad enough. I love this troll!
|
Traffic is horrible in Seattle. If you want to complain and find a reason not to move here, there's a legitimate problem we can all agree on... the traffic is more of an inconvenience than the weather, imo.
|
suze, AMEN!!!
