Fly Your Flag Monday
Don't forget to fly your flag Monday in honor of those killed in the 9/11 attacks.
Mahalo |
This is a wonderful way to memorialize the heroes and losses of those dreadful attacks.
Excellent idea, and thanks for the reminder!

I live in downtown Toronto and the US flags have started to go up to commemorate the date here. We lost so few of our citizens compared to you who live in New York, but we share the sorrow at this time. There is a ceremony here on Monday.
Wow, LJ, that's a beautiful thing. I remember seeing all the USA flags in Paris after 9/11. So touching. Truly it was a tragedy for all the world.
We fly the US and MX flags together here for all of September.
Are any other nations more closely connected? M (SMdA,Gto.) |
We normally have our flag out 24/7, but it got caught on a hook and tore a week or so ago. Have not bought a new one yet. Besides the one in the shadow box, all we have is the one from the carrier...too bad we don't have a large enough flag pole for that! Guess we need to get out and replace our flag tomorrow. Thanks for the great idea:)
I bought a flag for July 4th and continued to fly it 24/7 until the end of July when someone took it and threw it in a dumpster! across the street from me. Didn't realize it was MY flag as I watched someone else fish it out and take it. Not sure what the message was. :'(
jbass, that's horrible, and weird. Does stuff like that happen often in your neighborhood?
I live on a corner near a lake with LOTS of foot traffic; people feel entitled to "help themselves" to anything in my yard or on my front porch. I have a replacement flag now so will launch it just for Monday. :-d
I saw mention of flying the flags on 9/11 on Snopes. The article said they should be at half-staff. If you are interested see here http://www.snopes.com/rumors/tributes/flytheflag.asp
My staff is about the same size as my flag, so that will have to do.
Ah sundowner, you answered my question. In reading through all this I kept wondering if they should be at half mast.
It would be very touching to see them all at half staff, but most people have the smaller poles on their homes that basically just accommodate the flag itself.
That Urban Legends article says that if you cannot fly your fly at half staff, then hang a black ribbon or streamer the same width as a stripe on the flag and the same length as the flag from the top of the flag.
That is such a great idea, thank you for speading the word.
If you haven't heard the George Washington Bridge is addorned with the largest flag made in honor of the World Trade Center. I wanted to go out tonight and see if the "lights" are on. There will be many ceremonies in the City and the surrounding areas this weekend and on Monday. You might do a moment silence at 8:46 (I think is the moment the first plane crashed into the North Tower) I posted this earlier, but anyone interested who will be in the city, there is a Community sing of the Mozart Requium at Carnegie Hall at 12:30. The concert is being presented by the Juilliard Chorus and Orchestra, and the audience will be invited to sing. It should be a moving tribute to 9/11, and it is so healing to be in the audience and have music going on all around you. The tickets for the concert are FREE, (2 per person) but you must be in line early to get them. I will be one of the singers and plan on getting there around 8am, as I am sure there will be a long line. |
My son will be flying home from weekend trip to NYC Monday on an American flight. He was wondering if the pilot would make any mention of the event.
