The "Butcher Shop" in Longview Texas. They serve their 1/3 pound made to order burgers on home-made buns. Drool Drool

Can't seem to find any really great messy burgers in No NJ. Whie Manna is ok but want one that is big juicy & messy with lots of sauted onions.

Old Town Bar on 18th (or is it 19th?) Street in Manhattan has the yummiest, juciest burgers ever...

As a cheeseburger afficianado for over 50 years, may I second Port O' Call in NOLA, Winsteads in K.C., Cheesburger in Paradise in Lahaina. If in Minneapolis, the very best is the "Juicy Lucy" at Matt's bar on 35th and Cedar. They've been serving them up at least since the early 50's, when Matt's was known as "Nibs." (Grew up in the neighborhood.) The Lucy has the cheese, onions if you want, in the middle of a double patty. Indescribible!

A little hole in the wall bar in Las Vegas called MugShots. A half pound of pure heaven!

gail Apr 21st, 2002 06:53 PM

Have to add Sequoia Burger in Sebastopol CA. Redwood burger with avocado can't be beat. Cloverdale has the good Ole PICKS, great for an old time inexpensive hamburger, but if you are in Cloverdale you must visit Hamburger Heaven for BBQ.

Whoops! make that Hamburger RANCH in Cloverdale. They have a outdoor BBQ patio.

Shady Glen, Manchester CT has THE best cheeseburgers. They fry the cheese on the grill so it's dry and crispy and top the burgers. They do the same with hot dogs to make cheesefurters. You can even order the cheese as a side dish. Nice dairy bar atmosphere. Of course their ice cream is tops too.

All American in Massapequa, NY on Long Island

I am amazed that no one so far has mentioned Island Burgers & Shakes, in New York on 9th Ave near 52nd. Simple, sublime burgers with every conceivable garnish, also has excellent grilled chicken sandwiches.

FATBURGER -LAS VEGAS!

Holy home-baked buns! FIVE GUYS BURGERS in Alexandria Virginia. The fries are sublime as well.

Zott's (really called the Alpine Inn) in Portola Valley, CA, very close to Palo Alto and Stanford and Pie n Burger on California St. in Pasadena, CA. Don't be tempted by the tradition "O" (Oasis) at Stanford---they're really pretty bad.
