Lyn-of course, you are right! The Apple Pan is on Pico-I live 2.5 hours from there now and only get there a few times a year :( I used to live between Olympic and Pico (in the 60's)-sorry for the brain dump!
Shadow

Say it ain't so about Dotty's jpm. We were planning to visit Madison again in less than two years. Are they relocating, or is it gone for good? It had only been at the current location for less than a decade. It used to be on Regent Street.

Dan,

Not sure if/where they are relocating. It was a huge stink in town and many, many people sided with Dotty's. They've torn down the entire block to the side of the civic center and are building a massive "arts center".

another vote for Cheeseburger in Paradise on Front Street in Maui.

Oh, I'm getting hungry reading this post.

The Anchor Bar in Superior, WI is my favorite. It's a little hole in the wall on kind of a sketchy street, but it has an impressive list of all different kinds of really yummy hamburgers.

Another contender is the pepper cheeseburger at The Pickwick, in Duluth, MN. This is my stepdad's favorite - the burger is breaded and deep fried, topped with pepper jack cheese and served with onion rings. Scary but soooo yummy if you're not scared of gaining 5 lbs. in one sitting.

My third favorite is Britt's Pub in downtown Minneapolis. They've got a great burger with some kind of tangy cheese (like blue cheese but not - can't remember the name of it). Their fish and chips are also killer.

Four Seasons Boston
- Bristol Lounge (One of two restaurants at 4S Boston) makes an unbelieveably good burger. They use only ground sirloin, and man they really grill it to perfection and serve it with a heaping plate of fries. Of course, you must pay dearly for this burger. Sitting in the beautiful Bristol Lounge, you'll likely forget about the cost of the burger and enjoy.

Both in NYC:

$$$ Patroon's $17 amazement. Should be illegal to call it a hamburger.

$ Jackson Hole on Second Avenue.

THE VORTEX in Atlanta...it is so good! Burgers are great and so is the atmosphere. Skulls and crossbones and pictures of naked ladies on the wall. I think that alone would make people go there?

Eh Melissa, did you post yet? Loong thread, but gotta do our all-American best. Kua Aina in Haleiwa for best Oahu burgers, phone your order in: no wait when you go pick-em up.

The Great Lost Bear in Portland, Maine. They have over 50 micro brews on tap and they will even make your burger just "bruised" if'n you desire. Portions are fat boy sized and I enjoy their selection of hot sauces. Pulling on my Carharts and going to there just about now. See ya...
Hermann

The Moose Jaw in Frisco, Colorado. The burgers are large and the view in the summer is the best!

Another vote for Jackson Hole in NYC. The best burgers and amazing fries!

I read this entry today from a travel board on my homepage (BBC online) :

"The Fat Boy" burger Corpse Guy - 17 Dec 2001 20:13 - 1st post
In Kansas City, Missouri.

There are a few places to eat, one of which that doesn't stand out quite as much as the others is a place
called "Otto's grill"

They have a list of HUGE burgers one being "The Graceland" contains a burger...peanut butter...and a
grilled banana. its only put on as a joke but they will make it for you.

However... The is one that out does all the other, it goes by the name of.. "The Fat Boy" consists of..: A
huge burger, 1 fried egg, a soft cream cheese with green peppers and jalepanos mixed in it followed by 4
rashes of crispy bacon covered with 2 different kindas of cheese melted over it. served with a side order of
lettice, tomatoes and sliced onion.

Yes, i ate this creation and survived, but on finishing the fat boy, you will slip in to a coma like state for a
few hours, tis worth the whole trip! i recommend JT should go there and pig out on one ;)

sandy Jan 12th, 2002 05:53 PM

My oh my! Hamburgers, french fries, onion rings and malts. This is why we are the most obese people in the world!
Too bad our favorite things don't return the favor.

IN ST. LOUIS, MO....Dooley's located in Downtown St. Louis has the BEST burgers anywhere in the St. Louis area....sit at the bar and order from Pam (very friendly)...tell her Cheryl sent you :)

I am so glad someone said Five Guys in Northern Virginia...their only flaw is that there is no location in downtown DC. Be sure to get the most fabulous boardwalk fries too

I've been doing some serious research since this thread was first posted late last year. In California I tried In N Out a couple of times. No character, fake retro look....pretty mediocre, IMHO.

Many thanks, however to Meg and others who recommended Port of Call in New Orleans. On the edge of the French Quarter, this place had a line out the door on a weekday afternoon. Great burger, terrific drinks, hometown friendly crowd. Reason enough for a return trip to NOLA real soon.

KenCt - Thank God there's finally one person who wasn't thrilled by In N Out. It means that those of us who love our animal style double doubles won't have to wait in quite as long of a line. Given the success of this fast food chain and the fact that it's the first stop for many people traveling to California, I don't think they're going to be too concerned that you weren't excited.
