Favorite entertainment on a Road Trip :)

What is your favorite things to do while stuck in a car? (Besides rubbernecking) :) We may take a road trip, and I always get bored about halfway through. I try crosswords, reading, etc, but I need more ideas....

suze Aug 25th, 2006 10:47 AM

Audio novels (get books on CD or tape from your library)

FainaAgain Aug 25th, 2006 11:00 AM

I love to be silent for an hour or so, then scream unexpectedly "see that hill??" and after that get into a heated discussion with the driver.

starrsville Aug 25th, 2006 11:09 AM

Teasing GoT. She's gets soooo bent out of shape! (Duane Reade, Duane Reade!)

[Kinda like "Ranger, ranger" on Herring Cove Beach (private joke - don't expect anyone to get it).]

No_name Aug 25th, 2006 11:13 AM

slug bug

starrsville Aug 25th, 2006 11:16 AM

I like to read a book, balance my checkbook, freshen my nail polish, things like that.

But, if I have a passenger with me, I like to talk. :-)

redfern Aug 25th, 2006 11:21 AM

Golly.. too much inside jokes going on here- I'm lost :( When I was single I had a heck of a good time traveling.. now with my husband its a little different... Fun in a different way, but also could get a little dull talking cause thats what we do all the time anyhow..

gomiki Aug 25th, 2006 11:22 AM

starrsville, I think I get it :)

miel2384 Aug 25th, 2006 11:22 AM

Trivial Pursuit cards are fun. No real points, but at least you're learning something.

GoTravel Aug 25th, 2006 11:40 AM

ME!!

I'm the best entertainment on a road trip.

The second best is BEER!

Truthfully, Mr.GoTravel and I can spend hours just talking. We work on totally different schedules.

Other than that, I have all kinds of card games like "Battle of the Sexes" and "Worst Case Scenario".

Here is a link to the WCS cards:

GoTravel Aug 25th, 2006 11:42 AM

starrsville, I about peed my pants laughing at that!

When I was in college my boyfriend and I drove across country delivering a Volkswagon Jetta. Through the Mohave Desert, it was so flat, so boring, and so desolate, we actually broke out the Trivial Pursuit board game and played.

Shanghainese Aug 25th, 2006 11:44 AM

Snack and sleep, I am good at both but not at the same time!

offlady Aug 25th, 2006 11:46 AM

My husband drives while I navigate. We are so busy trying to figure where we are and where we're going, who has time for anything else?

My teenage daughter keeps telling me to get the ipod stereo adapter for the car so we can connect our ipods and listen as we drive. The only problem is she has her music, and I have mine.

valeriej Aug 25th, 2006 11:48 AM

Audiobooks! You don't even have to buy them--libraries have them, Cracker Barrel restaurants have a buy and return program . . . etc.

Anonymous Aug 25th, 2006 01:00 PM

Doesn't anybody play license plate games anymore? We got 20 states in 20 minutes, once, stuck in traffic on the Delaware bridge on a Friday afternoon.

FainaAgain Aug 25th, 2006 01:02 PM

How 'bout toe nail painting?

starrsville Aug 25th, 2006 01:04 PM

Faina, see my 3:16pm post. I've found that toe nail painting is just too difficult - unless my passenger is willing to do it for me. Maybe I'm just not as limber as I used to be :-)

BayouGal Aug 25th, 2006 01:04 PM

Ranger, ranger, Starrsy?! That sounds like the ole nude sun bathing ploy to me. As in "ranger, ranger" is coming, so grab your clothes!! ;-)

redfern Aug 25th, 2006 01:07 PM

No nude scenes on my car trip...

starrsville Aug 25th, 2006 01:08 PM

And...that would be it! Gotta put on the top before the ranger makes his/her way down the beach. And, no, diving in the surf won't work. He/she will just wait until you finally come out.

Or, so I've heard :-)

BayouGal Aug 25th, 2006 01:08 PM

Well there's the problem, Red! :-D

seetheworld Aug 25th, 2006 01:08 PM

Then you don't know what you're missing, redfern. The occasional "mooning" out the car window keeps things exciting for everyone involved! :D

starrsville Aug 25th, 2006 01:09 PM

Well, redfern, you SAID -

I always get bored about halfway through

We're just talking alternatives here...

redfern Aug 25th, 2006 01:10 PM

Errr.... I guess I have bad memories of being mooned- by a...what.. 600# guy with his cheeks flapping down the highway......you could hear my scream clear across the world..

JAGIRL Aug 25th, 2006 01:11 PM

STW & starrs,
I thought it was illegal to scare children half to death...:D

starrsville Aug 25th, 2006 01:11 PM

But, at that moment, were you bored?

FainaAgain Aug 25th, 2006 01:11 PM

WHAT???? I can't ride topless???? :-o

BayouGal Aug 25th, 2006 01:11 PM

LMAO, STW!!!!

What a great activity for all of us in which ever city hosts our National Convention!!!

Did I hear someone say "ROAD TRIP?"

BayouGal Aug 25th, 2006 01:13 PM

Wow, yall are fast posters.

STW, I was referring to mooning as a convention activity. Great idea.

Red, was that about 15 years ago? If so, I remember hearing that scream.

starrsville Aug 25th, 2006 01:14 PM

Of COURSE you can, Faina. Just not in redfern's car. She just likes to rubberneck - as long as it's not in her car :-)

seetheworld Aug 25th, 2006 01:14 PM

Just reliving the "days of my youth", LOL! :D Little by little my secrets will all be revealed. :D

600# Lordy, that would make me scream too - you must be scared for life, poor thing. :o

redfern Aug 25th, 2006 01:15 PM

Oh you all can if ya want... and was I bored at that moment? :) Uh, well, I guess I got a good laugh outta it..I bet it was seetheworld I saw...hmm?

saps Aug 25th, 2006 01:16 PM

Is everybody just avoiding the obvious?

I guess my mind is just on my honeymoon to the Amalfi Coast starting in 10 days.

redfern Aug 25th, 2006 01:16 PM

Hey who sayin I rubber neck? me and hubbie just talk

seetheworld Aug 25th, 2006 01:19 PM

No, saps, that crossed my mind too. :D

Days of my youth, days of my....

FainaAgain Aug 25th, 2006 01:19 PM

Saps :$ they may have children in the car.

RedFern, a rubber neck is fine if it's not a RedNeck =-O

redfern Aug 25th, 2006 01:20 PM

So seetheworld it WAS you I saw on the highway....is mooning one of your pastimes?! Gasp!

BayouGal Aug 25th, 2006 01:21 PM

Red, I done tole ya . . . that's an official Fodor Convention activity. We are all Fodorites/Moonies!!!! Got it?!

seetheworld Aug 25th, 2006 01:22 PM

HEY listen there!! Don't you go makin fun of my tuckess!! Back in the 70's we did lots of things...mooning was only one of them. :D

seetheworld Aug 25th, 2006 01:24 PM

Now if any one of you breathe a word of this to my kids, I'll disown the lot of you!!! And deny it! :D
