Family kicked off flight
Fascinating story on CNN:
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/...off.plane.kiro That it happened does not surprise me. What astonishes me is that some people think it is their "right" to fly even if they (or their children) are incapable of behaving appropriately (SAFELY) on a plane. How can people think that an airplane and its passengers should be forced to endure disruptive unsafe behaviour? |
Obviuosly this family has a lot bigger issues than being thrown off a plane - as in a pack of kids with some sort of behavioral disorders _ or else just raised by a pack of wolves.
If she can't control them when they're this young what will they be like in 10 years? I'm suprised they were let back on any flight at all. |
The family did not cooperate with the flight attendants, and should not have continued on. Safety is paramount.
If they felt marooned without money, it's their fault for not being prepared. Something tells me this must have been really awful to get them booted off the plane. I really pity the other passengers, especially those seated near them. This family seems to feel very entitled. |
Good job, Southwest!
Well done! |
I still think Southwest is the airline the others should be EMULATING rather than running them out of business...
|
Mom should have been charged for two seats. I really pity the person who had to try to sit next to her. Such attitude.
Flying is a priviledge, not a right. |
Good for Southwest. This doesn't sound like excited kids as much as it sounds like uncontrollable kids presenting a safety issue. How sad that the mom doesn't seem to get that it's up to her to control her children.
|
Somewhere along the way, the sense of entitlement has become distorted and tarnished. Very sad. Very selfish. No apology to the other passengers and flight staff, just a whole lot of poor me.
Anytime I am delayed, I remind myself, "how blessed am I that I have cash on hand to get a snack, a book to pass the time, imagine if..." Well they are the imagine if. Sadly, Mom and Auntie seem oblivious to the fact that they were delayed by their own demise. Mom admits the kids were out of control, yet claims no responsability to her own demise. Blame the system, blame the airline. If only she would look within and see where in lies her own blame, and reconcile that. Very sad. |
Good Lord.
My daughter is an airline employee, I am just incredulous at some of the hair raising tales she tells me! And her passengers (on a legacy airline) are supposedly more experienced/sophisticated travelers than those on the short-hop Southwest flights. Yes, we like to bash airline service on Fodors but when you see appalling stories such as this it's hard not to be sympathetic to the employees! |
Better to send the trucks and the cameras and the reporters to cover this story instead of addressing the true state of the union.......
sad times indeed...... |
Good for Southwest.
|
Shame on CNN for covering this and giving voice to these loosers.
|
I want to know what critter is in that cage that Henry's holding. Looks like a tarantula to me.
|
That TV reality program "Airline" was all about Southwest Airlines. The unruly family in today's video is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of bad behavior. I couldn't watch a second episode of the program, because the drunk/smelly/pompous/stupid passengers that had problems with the airline were so obnoxious. It became apparent to me that these were passengers that would have been Greyhound denizens years ago, when they couldn't afford a plane ticket. Maybe higher fares will bring back that kind of stratification.
|
While I feel bad that one of the kids is autistic, I believe the family has to accept that, depending on the child's function level, perhaps long plane rides are just not possible and certainly not when there are other children present with their own disabilities requiring attention and supervision. And mothers who travel "without any money" (as she claimed) should be charged with child endangerment. What if flights had been delayed and she had to buy meals for her kids?
And how did they finally get to Seattle? Was she able finally to control her kids enough to take another flight? If that's the case, she loses the argument that it's all Southwest's fault. |

<Mom should have been charged for two seats. >
Three is more like it! |
I wondered about the travelling with no money part. I completely get being poor and not having money to spare - been there, done that. I also had enough sense not to travel if I couldn't scrape together a contingency fund.

I like the pregnant sister missing teeth segment- it gives it that homey, hill-billy rant charm.
|
"I still think Southwest is the airline the others should be EMULATING rather than running them out of business..."
Who is running Southwest out of business??? Southwest's financials are in better shape than any other US airline. |
These are probably the dispruptive kids in their classrooms, the ones who run around in restaurants, bolt through the grocery store etc. etc. all while the ignorant parents think everything is fine. If someone complains they cry "poor me" or the complainer is labeled a child hater. They need parenting classes more than cross country travel. They also need a few other things, but I don't want to sound mean...
|
I hope more airlines follow this and do something about families who don't make any attempt to control their kids.
We had a miserable flight to Orange County on AA last week. A couple were traveling with 3 kids ranging from age 2 to 6. The two younger kids screeched for the first half of the 4 hour flight and kept fighting and pulling on each other. The parents did nothing! They were sitting on back to back rows and didn't bother separating the children. They had no games, books, toys to entertain their children either. We were lucky the kids got exhausted and fell sleep. |
When's the lawsuit....?
Maybe after they win $30 million they'll have some money in their pockets...or maybe not! |
So, Marginal, are you saying that if airfares get higher, then the people who can afford to fly won't be "drunk/smelly/pompous/stupid"? Yeah, like there aren't any drunk, smelly, pompous or stupid rich people.
|
They were all on their way to Seattle? I'm confused. When did the Jerry Springer show start taping in Seattle?
|
<b>They were all on their way to Seattle? I'm confused</b>
From Detroit to Seattle via Phoenix ... not exactly the direct route. |
Is that how the Jerry Springer show was routing them?
Bill_H, I think going through Phoenix IS the direct route for many of Southwest's flights. |
A sad story and a story that appears as though the mother needs parenting classes. Our city gives for free (tax payers pay I guess) classes for parents that do not know how to be responsible parents. Obviously from some of the children in our city not all parents that need help as to how to properly raise a child go to these classes.
Good for Southwest. |
How were those women impregnated? :D
|
Great video, grandma looks a little butch to me.
|
ROTFL crefloors! Well a paper bag over the head perhaps? Sorry, couldn't resist.
|
This seems to be the final chapter to a very sordid tale: http://www.kpho.com/news/16813576/detail.html
|
I wonder if the kids behaved themselves on the Alaska flight? If so, and guess they did as no mention of their not behaving, it would appear the mother can control them when she finds out it is necessary.
|
creflors: In the car business, they say that there is an ass for every seat.
In the food business, they say there is a hotdog for every bun. |
Darn it- Southwest caved.
Bet they are on their "No fly" list. I really pity Southwest for all the abuse their staff has to put up with from rude and non-compliant passengers. |
As one pundit recently said while discussing discount airlines, "when you let the riff-raff fly, you pay the price."
Crude. Cruel. Crass. But, we must admit, accurate. |
<i>Shame on CNN for covering this and giving voice to these losers.</i>
The story broadcast by CNN came from KIRO in Seattle. Please explain why CNN should not have aired it. |
Just to point out that Southwest Airlines is not the only one kicking off unruly passengers.
American Airlines Cancels Flight Due to Hostile Passengers http://www.myfoxny.com/myfox/pages/H...1.1&sflg=1 |
CNN was totally on the side of the passnegers and the kids. I was totally on the side of Southwest and was really happy that most on this blog are as well. It is just an example of how news stories are covered. Unless you are there you really don't know what happens. I was not there, but you could tell by the statements the woman was making that she should not have been allowed to go on the connecting flight. Allowing children to run around simply is not allowed. I do understand that a lot of children have special needs, but still rules have to be obeyed in many areas of life.
|
Boo hoo...they had to pay for last minute tickets and they got a refund from Southwest? On of my friends just had to jump through hoops to get a refund on a ticket for her FIL who passed away. They are still charging her MIL the price of a higher last minute ticket....
They look like white trash to me. I would love to hear what the other passengers have to say about this. "I like the pregnant sister missing teeth segment- it gives it that homey, hill-billy rant charm" LOL!! |
