Scarlett, I'll have the same!

Late 1969. I'm terribly pregnant. By today's standards, we are relatively poor. We are on a trip to the East coast of Canada from Ottawa in a Ford Econoline van rigged out as a camper. We spend some time on PEI and pick a dirt road to explore on the north shore after doing the obligatory Cavedish tourist area. We discover about a mile of totally deserted beach (not a foot print to be seen). Waves are crashing on to shore and even tho it's September - in we go. The water is WARM and the waves are humonguous! We spent a day larking about and laughing so much as we were tumbled about in the water. Then BBq'ed on the beach and.....Insert romance here...... moved on next day.
Not a pricey vacation we've had since then that can compare! |

Aruba, on our honeymoon, almost 19 years ago.....before it became a big tourist destination. A lot of people said "where's that?" when we told them where we were going. There were no humongous resort hotels around at the time. We stayed in a small hotel who's motto was "barefoot elegance." We sat on the beach every night with a bottle(s) of wine and watched the cruise ships go by all lit up!

Seaside, Florida, for my 40th birthday. We had a beautiful cottage complete with a Romeo and Juliet balcony! ((L)) Picture a big full moon shining over the Gulf of Mexico, a clear, starry night, and two fools in love with each other.

We've had a number of them, but I'd say our trip to Venice, Italy last year takes the cake.
For our ten year wedding anniversary, we renewed our wedding vows on a gondola at sunset. We each wrote our own vows, not knowing what the other would say until it was said, and then we exchanged Venetian glass beads. Many tears were shed and the whole day and evening will be one that we will never forget. |
Our honeymoon of course! A couple nights on Oahu (just to break up the trip from TX), then Fiji, two different islands, then sailing on a private charter on the GBR for 4 nights, and finally a week on Bali. All very romantic!
But the MOST romantic moment was on the charter sail, watching the sun set and see Orion come up in the sky. |
Our 30th wedding anniversary -- a surprise trip to Paris. I didn't know where we were going until we arrived at the airport. He handed me a gift box with the Fodor's Guide to Paris inside.

Last Christmas in Paris. We've been to some romantic destinations...Hawaii, Bermuda, St John, Cotswalds, and though all were wonderful in their own right, they didn't come close to whatever it was that grabbed us in Paris.
|
Looks like lot's of us have given or received surprise trips to Paris.
I gave my boyfriend a surprise trip to Paris for New Year's eve. Christmas morning, he opened his present which was a picture of the Eiffel tower. I wrote across it...we leave in 4 days! We travel lots and that was definately romantic! Also...New York rockefeller center @ xmas runner up. |
The South of France in October this year. I suppose our very best day was one we spent in the Camargue. We had a fabulous lunch at La Chassagnette followed by watching pink flamingoes walking and squalking. Everything seemed so clean and clear that day.

Our 25th anniversary trip to Bermuda, where we had spent our honeymoon. I think it was a combination of the beauty of the place, and the joy of still being in love after 25 years, and reminiscing about our courtship and first honeymoon.

Great Thread!
Paris is magic. So is Bermuda. The greatest place we've emjoyed for pure romance is Laguna Beach. The Surf and Sand hotel has rooms on the beach and when the tide comes in, the water is right underneath your balcony! Not all rooms there are like this, but ask when you reserve. We have not been there for 7 years, yet my wife still talks about it. (I know, I will take her back!) |
I must think about this and get back with my answer, but while all the posts are great, I love PeggyE's so much that I read it twice. Now THAT is my idea of romantic--not exactly the trip itself, but the effort and thoughtfulness that went into it. I am hoping he was rewarded nicely for that one!

All of my cruises. There is noplace more romantic than on a ship in the middle of the sea under the stars.

Montreal, in the middle of winter, for our 10th anniversary. Cold as a witch's behind, w/wind chill it was 25 below. An incredible ice festival on the Isle. Luged for the first and only time in my life. Warmed up in other ways. Amazing, and definitely once in a lifetime.

First trip to London and parts of Scotland, walking hand in hand as the ultimate tourists vising everything we could possibly see, then staying in little hotels that were more like B and B's.
Developing a taste for tea, which when drinking to this day evokes the warmest feelings! |
Thanks for this thread. That's because I scored points with my wife by asking for her input about our most romantic trip. :)
We came up with romantic moments such hiking to the top of Ben 'An (sp?), a mountain overlooking Scottish lakes; several moments in Venice, our favorite city; the beauty and solitude of Bellagio, Italy, which is on Lake Como; a midnight view of a full moon reflected on Crater Lake in Oregon, watching the morning clouds rise to reveal Macchu Pichu; looking down on the lakes below the Opabin Prospect in Canada's Yoho National Park; and others. All of our trips are romantic because of our shared passion for travel. As for the most romantic trip, we decided that that's always going to be the next one to a place to which we've never been. |
Jamaica, even though it is slightly on the dangerous side. It was increased on our scale as it ws our first trip out of the US. Various islands have been romantic, but it was wonderful sitting on an empty beach with a cocktail and listening to the waves.

Ah, it's great that there are romantics out there! My DH is a major one and has kept the fire burning for over 6 years. Tortola....on a beach totally alone,,,Anedaga (BVIs) with a whole stretch to ourselves. Cruising and dancing under the stars. Romantic cabins in the Smokies with a hot tub and a bottle of wine. Lanzerac Manor in South Africa with our private terrace, heated floors, robes. Northern California- wine, mountains, rugged coast. Mendocino- loved it so much that we are returning THIS WEEK!!! XOXOXOX
