Ok, here's a few more for your viewing pleasure... we just can't get enough of our Sox! :D

No offense to the Sox, but the painted cows mentioned above (the CowParade project) first appeared in Zurich. Chicago was the first US cow city, though, and the project is now worldwide.

Good going makai1, I know they were out there somewhere.
And the other team, Orcas, wasn't the Texan one but the other side of town one. I'm never clear- too excited! I can understand the Astros' feelings. I just don't want to put a hex on anything by mentioning Northside negatives anyway. Oswalt, your time is coming and it isn't going to be the time you want. Go,Go,Go White Sox! Jon, you were voted the top hottie in the Southtown today- pitch like you know it. :D |
Oooh! The Picasso has never looked so good, nor the Art Institute lions so happy! Wish I were there, but this is the next best thing! Thanx!!!
|
JJ5 - That's terrible!!! What's the matter with those Cubbies? That is truly sad!
|
Funny JJ... just down the street from my parents house there's a yard all decked out for Halloween with gravestones... one of which says, "RIP White Sox". It has been up since the beginning of the playoffs. At first I was tempted to knock it over, but then decided later that it was quite humorous as the Sox continue to show their talent... with AUTHORITY at that! =D>
|
I remember when the A.I. Lions had on the Bears ear muffs. Can you imagine the company that got the special order on the huge plastic batting helmets.
What a country! Yup, and our school paper has not one article on the Sox, Orcas except for an inner page picture of the A.J. whiff call- like that won 5 games. Sour grapes BIG TIME; and it wasn't bad until now because now most everyone knows: CHICAGO WHITE SOX - 2005 World Series Champions It's coming and just a matter of time now. It's arrogant, but I can be because this team isn't. I was just thinking how nice it is going to be next summer sitting in the upper deck 556 section and looking at my new pennant flying out there. WHOOOO-HOOOOOOO! :D :D **== |
Hi JJ5,
Just want you to know that these two Minnesotans (my DH and I) are SO pulling for the Sox, and have cheered them on from our living room! I almost blew a gasket Sunday night with that Gram Slam! Go Sox! ((L)) and good wishes! Tiff |
Tiff, my youngest son called me immediately. We used to go real early and watch Frank Thomas during batting practice.
What a week for Paulie, huh! Could you imagine and the timing!!!! He has a first born son in the 4 days off and then proceeds to hit a grand slam in the World Series. He says it is going to get better before the week is out. Thanks for the good wishes, because the other kind are not nice to witness. Ironic since when it was the other way around, we all rallied in quite a different way. |
<He has a first born son in the 4 days off and then proceeds to hit a grand slam in the World Series.>
I got chills when I read that! I wasn't aware of that news. What an unbelievable week for him. I will have to tell my hubby that. Thanks for sharing that "behind the scenes" info. :) :) Best of luck tonight, we'll be watching! [-o< |
Just so you know it's rabid SPORTS fans, not just singling out Astros fans:

I'm the kind of girl that gets choked up at the drop of a hat, and those pictures have me in tears! :) Go Sox!
A hometown girl |
We have four brand new papas on the Sox. Crede's wife had their second daughter in the last week of the regular season. Rowand had a girl, and there was one other girl born in the week before the playoffs started as well. Buerhle's engaged. And Garland's girlfriend is a glamour blonde former Playboy Playmate. Paulie just got the boy. And his wife/baby and parents are coming in a limo from AZ to TX to see the game tomorrow. Guess we all know what they do in the off season. :))
We watch batting practice and workouts before them, when we go to the game at the Cell. Lots of times we have gone to Chinatown first, if its a day game. And yes, memejw, I do know about rabid fans. That just ruins the fun for everybody. College football can get rabidly brutal. |
Take heart, JJ5. My Mom tells me that Harry Kerry's widow owns a restaurant and that it is all decked out in support of the Sox. Harry Kerry is the one who used to sing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" at all the Cubs games. So, there are some classy Cub fans in your corner of the dugout!
|
Actually Orcas, good ole' Harry used to sing "aah one, aah two" long ago at Comisky for the stretch... before his famous Cubs days. It amazes me how many people don't know that.
I pulled up a few more pics for those that want a look. Go Sox! Konerko Grand Slam http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/photo?sl...48&prov=ap Pods homer http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/photo?sl...64&prov=ap Pod & AJ http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/photo?sl...61&prov=ap Best of ALL http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/photo?sl...11&prov=ap |
Harry Carrey was the Sox announcer for years before he was a Cubs announcer. He started the "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" song during the 7th inning stretch and it has continued at Comiskey Park after he left. We always sang it. They have a pictue of him singing it at the 1959 Sox W.Series in the paper just today. Southside paper, that is- SOUTHTown.
You see how these things build up over time! I bet you thought Harry was always a Cubs person. Harry would have been rooting for the Sox anyway- as he was always for the good time. He left because of "pay TV"- he never wanted to work for cable TV and wanted to stay with WGN. WGN nationalized Cubs coverage and widened their fan base that far as well within the Tribune dynasty. Do you know who Jack Brickhouse was? Well no matter. GO SOX. Countdown begins. |
I remember the name Jack Brickhouse, so I looked him up on the internet. I've been unmasked as not a very big baseball fan. In fact, I'm not much of a sports fan at all. :-[ But I'll always root for a Chicago team and for anything Chicago, as I was born there and I love Chicago! ((L)) My Mom still lives there and we visit her as often as we can!
|
Hey! a north sider here. Admittedly not a huge sports fan of any sort, but have been known to cheer for the cubs in a cross town classic.
I've gone on recored cheering for the sox (the very 1st reply to this post). Ease up on us JJ5, give me a break here- we north siders are nice people too :) |
You don't have to tell me that, I know it. My DIL is one of the best.
I just want the Cubs fans, and they are not all Northsiders by any means, to let us have some fun without any name calling. Just ignore us over here with the huge smiles upon our faces. :D |
And please also not to steal the pennants off my car and/or let us wear some Sox shirts (and nice ones at that) instead of putting in a dress code right now because it's us and it is. Oh yes, it is happening; and very much like the RIP bit detailed by makai1.
There is a great German word that is untranslatable but means "crying/being sorrowful over someone elses'good fortune"- that would fit it exactly. Those who don't want to jump on the bandwagon- FINE- but then without protest just let us be to have some fun. |
