Travelinwifey, I have to say I found your reference to Pierce Brosnan as an "older man" somewhat depressing as he's my age!

Maggi, I agree KSS is a beautiful woman and don't have issues with her weight. I was just curious as to her size.

This didn't happen in Hawaii but the U.K. IS an island! ;-)

I have a Queen Elizabeth/Prince Phillip sighting. Back in 1998, we went to Westminster Abbey to tour it and found the place mobbed with camera crews. Turned out the Queen and Prince Phillip were going to be there in a few hours to dedicate some new statues of martyrs.

We waited at the fence for two hours when they finally arrived. Some royal aides came up to the fence and told us all to clap. I thought it was hilarious that they felt they had to tell us to do this. She was in matching purple hat, dress and shoes. Got some great photos. They went straight inside. At least some day I can tell my future kids I saw the Queen!

When we stayed at The Maui Prince Gwen Stefani and her band No Doubt were staying at the hotel also. Now I say that I hung with rock stars at the pool.

Sorry Gardyloo. The Big Kahuna just fixed the problem. Go to this website to see a picture I took of the most famous celebrity ever to appear in Maui, at the Four Seasons on Wailea Beach this December!

Just saw this thread. We were in Matzalan Mexico. At the Pueblo Bonito. All of a sudden one day it appeared most of the guest were being ushered from the hotel with their luggage. Not a happy looking group. My DH asked the desk clerk what was going on. He was told that the next day Pres.Reagan was arriving to Matzalan. He would be staying at the hotel next to ours which had an open lot between the two hotels. Think the hotel where the pres. was staying was the Westin, can't remember.

Anyway, we were told they we and another couple were not going to have to vacate our rooms. Both my DH and the other gentlemen were retired military officers. About the same time the Mexican Marines arrived on the beach. The US Marines arrived at our hotel. Navy Seals were in the water offshore and Mexican ships were in the water. Strange times!

That night we were asked not to leave the premises. No problem as the restaurant there was great. So we were given a table on the terrace. We ordered wine and all of a sudden the waiter sort of punched my DH in the ribs and said "stand up!" So we did. The President of Mexico (Salinas) came in with his troupe of people About a dozen of them. They sat at the long table in front of us. All men except for a beautiful women (who we learned was the assistance of something?). Dinner was served to us, the other couple and the presidential party. After dinner we went out by the pool and watched the young US Marines frolic in the pools like a bunch of teenagers. How young they looked out of their uniforms. The Mexican Army patroled the beach, we were not allowed the leave the premises.

The next morning their was a knock at our door. The darling hotel maids. They indicated that we should come out on the hallway that overlooked the street beacause President Reagan was going to arrive. By car, by helicopter no one knew. The street was completely closed to traffic.

So, without a shower, we went out on the open hallway. My DH went into the kitchen and made us BloodyMary's. I was in a sundress, barefoot. Their were US Marine's stationed at each end of the hallway, but we were not bothered as long as we did not try to leave the hallway.

Discussions were that at the next hotel that all employees were told they could not work at the hotel while Pres. Reagen was there. A big insult to the Mexicans, which we sure understood.

So we stood on the open hallway, waiting to see what was going to happen. Drank BloodyMary's and talked to the darling maids and the other couple that had been allowed to stay in the hotel.

All of a sudden US helicopters appeared. About 5 or 6 I believe. Then the one with Pres. Reagan. The helicopter was so close that we could see his face. He waved with a smile. And thought "oh my, here I am in a sundress, barefoot, drinking BloodyMary's at 10:30 in the morning". Then of course more US helicoptors followed Pres. Reagans helicoptor. US military was awesome. Made me realize how other countries view us. That night the President of Mexico (Salinas) was back at our hotel. We had found out that the owner of the hotel (not sure if it is now the same owner, probably not) was very good friends with Salinas. Salinas had a few beers. Then he and his entrouarge left the terrace and walked through the lobby. And got on a nice bus and left for Mexico City. Before he left he shooked hands with all the hotel employees and us and the other American couple who was allowed to stay at the hotel.

What a difference, how the president of Mexico arrived and left and how our president arrived and left.

It was a couple of interesting days.

LoveItaly: Wow....what a story!!!!

My aunt "received" President Reagan in her home several years ago. The building she moved into (here in Buffalo) was the first senior citizen complex funded by the federal government. The prez was there for the ribbon cutting and she was chosen as the resident he would visit in her apartment. She made some Italian cookies for him, but he wasn't allowed to eat them.

Oh well, we have a wonderful picture of the two of them holding hands and smiling.

(I know, not travel related).

Hi dear Fodorites, and of course I should have clicked on the "Prview My Reply" button and then clicked the "Edit" button, so I could have corrected my spelling. I do know how to spell, honestly, but I am not the world's best typist.

Yes, it was an experience I always said I would never forget, but guess in a way I did until I read through this thread today.

Keep in mind, we went to Matzalan, the Pueblo Bonita for three weeks as we were completely burned out from our business, elderly family members etc.

Think we were there for about a week when this happened. I felt "honored" at the time that we were not told we had to leave the hotel. It was quite an experience. And in a way a tad bit scary, not because of the US Marines but because of the Mexican Marines patrolling the beach, the Navy Seals, the ships just offshore etc.

But it was fun also. An adventure! And then some years later it turned out that Salinas ended up living in Ireland and his brother was arrested for fraud or something. And did you get the "assistant" comment. She was really beautiful btw. LOL.

This 3 week trip had more adventures, it was amazing. But won't bore you with the rest of the vacation. Take good care my Fodorite friends.

Buffalo Girl, oops forgot to comment on your post. Pres. Reagan evidently did not eat anything that was not prepared by "his people". That was the negative and upset regarding his being in Matzalan. The chefs at the hotel on the other side of the vacant lot from the Pueblo Bonita (where his helicopter landed) had evidently originally planned a fantastic dinner for him and Pres. Salinas. And then they were notified that NO, that was not possible. That a chef from DC would prepare the dinner that night. And the hotel staff were evidently replaced with DC people. So all the employees of the Westin ,I am almost certain it was the Westin, when you face the Pueble Bonita it was on the right of it with at that time a huge vacant lot in between. The staff at the Westin had evidently bent themselves backwards so to speak to serve a very special dinner for our President. And then the were told they could not even be in the hotel. A big insult. The Mexicans were crushed. And guess your Aunt had the same experience.

Aw Caph52! Sorry! To me "older" would be > 12 years of my age:D And I married an older man! But Pierce could be my Dad. Guess that makes him a DILF B-)

All of my celebrity sightings have been on Maui. Several years ago, I actually talked to Eric Clapton - the thrill of my life! Also heard a spontaneous concert under the Banyan Tree by Willie Nelson & Kris Kristofferson one year. Most recent sighting was Jerry O'Connell with some friends - saw them several times - he is the nicest guy - even took picture with my son-in-law. Also saw Jeff Gordon (NASCAR driver) that trip.

Annabel May 4th, 2005 11:58 AM

Last year I was in Manhattan for lunch..I was in a cab around the ABC studios building. I happened to look out the window and I saw a tall man with white hair from the back....I must have been a half block away but I knew who it was....My favorite daytime guy David Canary aka Adam Chandler! As the cab drove by I opened up the window and yelled....I love you David! He looked up and waved back at me....he must have thought I was crazy, but it gave the cab driver a big laugh!

Even though he was half a block away, I would have recognized him anywhere he stands out in a crowd.

Annabel~
I just finished watching him on AMC...
Very Cool!

to answer luvmail's question. I saw Richard simmons at a Womens Show in Lansing, MI. I was a Sales Director for a hotel and we had a booth and he was walking around. Talk about high energy.

Don't worry. Knowing that Richard Simmons was on GH does not date you too much. If it does, then it dates me too. LOL

starrsville May 4th, 2005 05:43 PM

Okay Annabel - and others...

How many remember David Canary from Bonanza?!?!?

luvmaui71 May 4th, 2005 05:56 PM

Hey Starrsville,
I do, I do, remember him from Bonanza! In fact growing up here in Northern Nevada, we used to go to the Ponderosa Ranch for visits in the summer. They actually filmed there the last few years, the show was on the air. My older sister and a cousin, used to have HUGE crushes on "Candy" his charactor on Bonanza, and they swear to this day they saw him there walking across the parking lot!!
So yeah, we remember him,,, and it dates ME!
