Thanks, JJ5. She's flying Southwest out of Midway. I'm far more concerned about the situation on the other end than here. Surely, by tomorrow evening things should be okay here. But there...?

Caph-got a call from dd who is in Chi on business. Doesn't look like Logan(Boston) is going to be open any time soon. She thinks she MAY get out on Tues. but who knows?? She can't get out to walk and explore the city it is so cold and still snowing @ 11 am est.

Well, the wind is still blowing pretty hard in our area west of Boston. It's pretty bad when the dog won't go out. We opened the door before, she looked at the 25" facing her, looked up at us and sat down. The drift as you step out of the door is about 3 1/2 feet. Schools are already posting closings for tomorrow.
Our lone lawn chair on the patio is covered with the wind blown snow. Yet, this morning there was bare pavement on part of the driveway and stairs because of the wind. We cleared the driveway about 7 am and it's actually remaining relatively clear because of the wind.

Sounds alot worse out in the Chicago area than here in NJ.

After about 13" of snow total, the sun is shining brightly, and we've dug ourselves and 3 of our neighbors out with our snowblower. Driveway is melting nicely and hopefully will be clear and dry soon. Town just came to plow our dead-end street, and DH is going out to clear the foot of the driveway now. We're in good shape, but they've already cancelled school here for tomorrow. I guess to allow extra time for sledding.

I'll still have to go to work. :(

bounty, it must be a lot worse downtown than here in the Western suburbs. It's actually quite nice here. The sun is shining, it's 20 degrees but doesn't feel it. We haven't had any snow since yesterday and it's not blowing today. Compared to the cold of last week or the snow over the past couple of days, it's great! I've heard Logan is bad. But I'm going to have to check directly with Bradley to see if things are any better there. My daughter will be calling friends who are already back at school to see just how bad it is there. She's nervous about a delay because, as I said earlier, her classes start Tuesday. However, had she made her reservation for a day or two earlier, she wouldn't have been able to get back anyway. So there's really no point in feeling guilty about waiting until the last minute to go back!

Imagine my surprise, when I finally bundled up and went out to work on my car at 2:30- there was no snow on it whatsoever! I chipped a little ice from under the wipers. I shovelled a little around the tires, and was done in 20 minutes. The wind made it bitterly cold. After a quick 20 minute walk around the block, I headed back inside. I am not going to venture out on the roads until work tomorrow. Safe travels and arrivals all. :)

Still snowing here on Cape Cod!!! 3+ feet expected by the time it's over...whenever that is!! It's going to be days before I get out of the driveway. Have not had a plow come down the street since very early this morning. Winds are starting to slow up a bit. Had gusts of up to 72 MPH earlier!!! YAHOO!

JJ5 Jan 23rd, 2005 02:37 PM

Sunday at sunset:

Winds have subsided and no new snowfall since 1pm. Roads are cleared, but very icy-and drifts have reoccurred at intersections etc. so caution is required, of course. Airports are playing catch up already.

Sorry, above is for SW Chicago and downtown also, as neighbors just came from the RV/Boat show at McCormick Pl. They braved it in a Jeep Cherokee.

Everything will be open here tomorrow.
