My DH says I have great jaw muscles!!! :">
|
Pat~ This year, we'll celebrate early. Remind me of your dates on the peninsula again, por favor!
kureiff~ my sister-in-law lives in Helena. mooslywild~ are you in Spokane by any chance? |
Just reading through these and suddenly saw a new angle on the comment I just made . . . I'm certain DH was referring to my overactive conversational skills. Didn't want you all to get the wrong idea of this timid little southern gal!;;)
|
BayouGal~ okay, my counselor says you and I need another week at charm school, you funny humidity sufferer!
I thought of those army ants.. my younger son and I watch Animal Planet shows.. scary when they show them magnified.. the worst we have here is daddy long legs(which I could use as a nickname for my tall dh too, lol) J. |
I couldn't agree more, BayouGal - I'm a June 23 crab and proud of it.
It looks like we share a knack for research and planning. I'm heading out West next summer for my 45th, The Grand Circle, GTNP and Yellowstone. I must admit your past post have been very insightful and informative, if not down right intellectual…he, he, he! My birthday always give me the best excuse to plan a trip, I mean one more year in the books is an accomplishment, isn't it!! I usually take a cruise to the Caribbean, so if I can pull off the road trip out West, do you think I can manage Alaska for my 50TH!? |
Okay, I'm not eating til there are 100 replies, lol. The first ever Fodor's hunger strike..
after reading about berries, chocolate, brunches and other buffets around the globe, I'm full anyway. What I wouldn't give for a chocolate crossiant right now.. is there a little icon for pudgy wudgy yet?:-d |
Aries-The Ram
March 21 to April 20 jetset, don't go messing with my Birth sign..I have been an Aries too long to change now! lol |
Jetset: Let me know if you ever come visit! I'm in Great Falls.
I've been wondering if Moosley is a resident of Spokane? Or Walla Walla? Where do you live Moosley? :) |
*-:) I propose meeting at the Paris hotel in Las Vegas~ not to gamble, just to eat and walk it off with our Fodor's approved footwear, then see shows, again, rated to be the best on this board, then have some drinks, then retire to our upgraded suites, where we tuck our svelte and toned bodies into cool 3000 thread count sheets.I-)
The next day? We go to Red Rock canyon, for hikes and photo ops. Later, we rent a boat and cruise the lake, sharing our favorite entertaining threads from here.=D> Because a lucky member of the group hit a huge jackpot, we are all treated to a spa treatment, including hair and nails.:) Then our limo arrives, taking us on an evening drive, replete with champagne and caviar(why not).. then we take a helicopter ride to a hillside ranch, where a gourmet meal has been set out in fancy tents, and waiters with those darn Wrangler jeans.. egads, I've spilled my coffee;) |
Walla Walla! And I'm not really a resident anymore- I'm a college student in limbo, LOL. But the "family farm" is near Pine City, and probably 2/3 of my relatives lived in Spokane at one point (or still live there)....So it's fairly accurate to say "I grew up in S.E. Wa". And it's weird...I really didn't appreciate the area until I went away to college:) I mean, I definitely want to move far, far away- but I now "get" why folks settle down here. Anyone had a similar experience?
Not with E.WA, I mean- with their home towns? |
Scarlett~ your 1:43 am post says March 2.. so I thought Pisces.. I grabbed my paper to check the dates. I didn't mean to cast you away from the Aries designation at all,lol.:-?
Now, I am needing to do something which will burn off last night's wine calories after all the food talk! |
mooselywild~ my dh grew up there(dad was a state trooper) in Spokane. When we left and found jobs up here one summer, we only went back to visit(we had owned a home in the valley for a couple years).
The area just grew too much, concrete and subdivisions.. we wanted to raise our family up here and appreciate the year round recreation, quality of living and space to explore. While we miss family there, we love them coming up to visit. After the third day of peace and quiet, walks on the beach, sightings of moose, eagles and wildlife, they always say "oh, we understand why you want to live here". Spokane sure grew the last few years! |
Moosely: I left MT for college and I'm so glad to be back. The pay is lower, but the recreational opportunities are plentiful and family is within a 2 hour drive.
|
Scarlett~ I'm still puzzled..(get a life Jetset).. my friend is March 11, Pisces, my mom was March 14th, Pisces, my niece is March 8th Pisces.
I love you dearly, but how are you not a Pisces? |
Actually, out of curiousity- who here has visited WW? And for which of the following reasons?
A- family B- business C- one of those school field trips you've mercifully forgotten? D- tourism E- passin' through And who has never heard of Walla Walla? <Evil, cheesy grin> |
Post #51, only 49 more before Jetset allows herself to have some food. Help!!
J., we need you to be in a good health when we get there. Take a drive to the Moose is Loose and get something to eat. |
Hi...
|
Jetset...
|
Hope this helps...
|
your cause! Now go eat! :D
|
Moosely: "E" just passin' through. But now I want to go there for tourism reasons. So many good wines!
My sister seriously considered Whitman. I wish she would've gone there and then I could list "A" as well! :) |
jetset1- yeah, Spokane has REALLY grown. But Danvenport Hotel is amazing, and the liberty fountain (rfp) is neat.
And Walla Walla ain't so affordable anymore:) And now there have been sightings of strange creatures known as "tourists" and "yuppies". Oh, dear... |
August 22 is my birthday. The older I get, the less I'm looking forward to publicly admitting my age.
If this is only the immediate family, I love to spend the day out - like in a zoo, a theme park, in the mountains. Our older son's birthday is only 2 weeks away, September 5. Yes, one of those Labor Days I was in labor, literally. He loves restaurants. So this year we'll heard our guests into the rotating restaurant celebrating both b-days together. I try to do something different each year. |
Whitman's a great school- to some of the locals, though- "it's too d*** liberal"
FANTASTIC library... |
Happy birthday, AuntAnnie!
and SeeTheWorld, only best people were born on Aug 22, don't you think ;) |
Faina!! We share the same birthdate, August 22nd!!! :D I knew there was something I liked about you!!
Happy Birthday to us both!! :D |
Faina's in the house!
My sister-in-law is August 22nd, the oldest of seven(60).. my husband thought his birthday was a day later until we got married and I saw his birth certificate.. his brother is 8/8, dad 8/13, dh 8/20, sil 8/22. I figure November must have been a friendly month back then,lol.:S- |
Oh, and where in Alaska, Jetset1? Thinking about teaching up there somewhere when I graduate. Secondary ed, History, baby!
|
Kenai Peninsula, 2.5 hours from Anchorage(traffic adds or subtracts about 30 minutes)..
Your chances of employment are good up here, though starting in bush communities(i.e. villages) is better. We lived in the Aleutians for many years and I was a substitute K-8 and the turnover is always high, maybe 2 years due to isolation.. The spring job fair in Anchorage has the community school reps from all over. Good luck. My parents taught for many years and I have a niece that teaches. J. |
jetset, I think Scarlett's birthday is March 23rd - she posted twice and the first time she said March 23. I think the second time was a typo.
I've known quite a few people over the years who share my birthday. There must be statistics that show the distribution of birthdays. Perhaps I will do some research. |
Hey- thanks. I know there's a better chance of employment in the "bush"....but what I'm afraid of is how "rustic" some places are. I can survive w/o starbucks, etc, but indoor plumbing is a must:)
|
Hi Jetset---I was born in May, which makes me a very proud and stubborn Taurus.
My favorite place to celebrate birthdays is in the mountains. My last "big OH" birthday was spent mountain biking the Tenth Mountain trail in Colorado with my son. Currently planning the next celebration (2007), a hiking trip in Switzerland with as many family members as can take the time off work. |
mooselywild~
Well, even our small town had espresso, so there is a bit more now than there used to be,lol. Cable tv, satellite dishes.. the only thing missing is cell service in some outlying communities. The hardest part was available and affordable rentals. It is subsidized or provided in some cases. Our village had terribly high rent and not much available, hence, the high turnover. Bigger communities are your best bet. Southeast Alaska is also scenic and on the ferry and plane routes. What I miss most is the fresh seafood right off the boat. Will try to help if possible, J. |
Juneau is nice, but like living on an island. 22 miles of paved roads. In and out via boat/ferry/plane. But, job market used to be pretty good. Don't know about now.
|
rentals in small towns are tough anywhere (well, barring destinations/college towns), so no surprise there. Glad to hear the "espresso bit"- some of the people I've talked to make it sound like Siberia, or a third world country- but then again I think they're the same sort of people who think Colfax, WA is the end-of-the-world-oh-my-deity. <sigh>
Anyway- definitely was looking at SE- looks like a great place to live and maybe not as bad winter (as say, Fairbanks) Been to Ketchikan? |
moosely---"bad" winters in Alaska are very subjective. I lived in Fairbanks for nine years, and I'd take the cold, dry, sunny days there over a rainy winter in SE any time.
|
okay- but I do like rain:)
And jetset! almost to 100 mark! (the ellis island thing is neat, but unfortunately I can't do it, even though at least one ancestor did enter that way- he was German, couldn't speak good english- so the current family name is some mangled version of "what is your name" in German:) ) |
I dated someone who moved to Juneau for a while. It was warmer in Juneau that winter than it was in Dallas or Atlanta. SE Alaska is amazingly temperate.
|
My birthday is January 30th and I like to be out of town on my birthday... this year I"m planning to be in Chicago! :)
