We're going back to our timeshare in Cancun in late April and plan to visit Chichen Itza. Have read in Fodor's that the 1st class buses are comfortable and safe and thought we'd take the bus to Piste, stay at the Dolores Alba hotel and return the next day. A friend had heard that the bus ride is an unpleasant grueling 4 hour trip. What can you advise?
Don

Hello,

My freind and I are going to Cancun March 1st, we have there before but not in a while. I am undecided about where to stay. We have stayed at the Marriot but it is sold out for that weekend. My other choices are the Melia, Le Meridien, Fiesta Americana Coral Beach, Fiesta Americano Cancun and the Hyatt Regency. I prefer to be close to the action, fun, spa and nice atmosphere. Also, no little children running around. Preferable newly remodeled.

What can you suggest???

Thanks,
Sabina

I am visiting Cancun March 8-13, 2001, and have a couple of questions. First, do you know of any special events scheduled during that time (i.e. how to get into MTV's concerts and shows, etc). And second, what are your thoughts on driving to Chichen-Itza? Is it safe? Is there parking once you get there? Admission fees? I am going to investigate your tour recommendation as well, but I've really enjoyed driving around the during my past trips to Mexico.

Hi, Tommy,
My boyfriend and a good friend of ours will be heading back to Cancun Palace for Spring Break the first week of March. Last year, we had such a great time at the hotel that we only went out one night (for the booze cruise)! We're going to try to go out more this year, so I was wondering which clubs you'd recommend. Also, last year we did a jungle tour, and we were kind of disappointed that we didn't get to snorkel for longer. Do you know of any companies that do just snorkeling trips? Thanks for all your help!

Emily

Latoya Feb 14th, 2001 10:14 AM

Can you help me with choosing between Omni Cancun and Moon Palace. I would like to know which is the better all inclusive resort.

latoya Feb 14th, 2001 10:23 AM

hi tommy. Can you help with choosing between the Omni Cancun and Moon Palace. Which is the better all inclusive? Is the beach at the Moon Palace as bad as everyone says?

tania Feb 14th, 2001 12:48 PM

hi tommy: my fiance and i are planning our honeymoon in cancun for september of next year and i am having a lot of trouble choosing between the moon palace and the aventura palace. any great opinions would be welcome, thanks.

bernadette Feb 15th, 2001 05:50 AM

hi all just wanted to add something here i just returned from a WONDERFUL trip to cancun i stayed at the moon palace sunrise! it was great we spent 8 days 7 nights there and it was great! yes the beach was nice but not as nice as the other beaches on the hotel zone. but the pool is so magnificent that nobody really cared about the seaweed in ocean. but the great thing is if you stay at 1 palace resort you get to use ALL 6 for free! so if you really want the beach you can take the free shuttle from the moon palace and go to the cancun, beach or sun palace and lay at their beach its beautiful over there! we payed only $2900 for 2 including the airfare! it was the most for your money! just think you have all those resorts to use and over 20 restaurants to choose from who can beat that??? plus you get 2 free tours and a manicure, pedicure and a massage for each of you check out the website i booked from www.cancunandyou.com have a great trip!

bobbie Feb 22nd, 2001 08:05 AM

Hi, finally someone who know's the scoop! I'm single and will be traveling alone, I have traded my timeshare for one in Cozumel. Can you give me any suggestions to my basic thoughts: my timeshare is from April 28th - May 5th, I thought rather than fly into Cozumel, which is more expensive I would fly into Cancun. I would like to see the Chichen Itza ruins, so I thought maybe I would fly in on Thurs the 26th and taxi it ti Cancun near the bus station. I would like to see the ruins at night as well as day, are there such tours? I could then take a bus to Playa de Carmen and ferry to Cozumel. The other tours south of Cozumel I could book from Playa Del Carmen. The I guess Taxi back to the airport? So any info/tips you can supply me with would be helpful. I'm also a blue eyed blonde and was told it is not safe to rent a car when traveling alone? I though car would have been best inoreder to see the ruins. Thanks Bobbie

Roni Feb 26th, 2001 08:19 AM

Hi Tommy, you helped me once before with some questions about going to Cancun. Anyway, we're not planning our trip approximately around Oct/Nov. It will be my husband and I, and our 2 teenage boys (16&17) We definitely wanted an all inclusive, and were thinking about Cancun Palace. Can you give me your thoughts, as we would want something where the boys can pretty much do their own thing (boogie boarding) in clam waters, and we can do our own thing. I thought about Cancun Palace, Omni and Grand Carrib.; Royal. What do you think about these choices, we definitely want an all inclulsive (conservatively priced), good location, calm, beautiful beach, with stuff to do on the resort as well, although, not over run with small children. Thanks again for your help tommy. [email protected]

Mark Feb 27th, 2001 03:32 AM

Tommy,
Do you have any information on the Omni Cancun Hotel and Villas (rooms, facilities, beach, etc.)? Thanks for your help!
Kelly Mar 9th, 2001 06:53 AM

Tommy has not responded to anyone since January 27, 2001. I would not post anything to this message board anymore, but open a new message.

Margie Mar 12th, 2001 02:23 PM

What can you tell me about a hotel in downtown cancun named Maria De Lourdes?
Is it in a good area. How far from the beaches and please tell me of the surroundings.
Transportation in Cancun:what is the best ways to commute? Which are the best discoteques in Cancun?

Kelli Mar 12th, 2001 04:29 PM

Hi Tommy,

I am using a timeshare trading service to go to Cancun and my choices are the following: The Royal Sands, The Royal Islander, The Royal Caribbean, The Royal Mayan, Club Internacional de Cancun, Omni Cancun, Club Baccara, Beach Palace, Blue Paradise Resort and Club Casa Maya.

We have to pick a 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice. What do you recommend. We are looking for a nice but very fun and lively/party atmosphere. (not too many young children).

Thanks!!

Jenn Mar 12th, 2001 11:50 PM

Hi folks,
This is to all the experience travelers
if Cancun. My daughter and her
classmates of her graduating class,
ages 17 to 18 years,with chaperones,
will be leaving for Cancun May 13th,
2001. Are there any warnings, advice
or recommedations out there? They will
be staying at the Costa Real. Anyone
know anything about this hotel? Good or
bad? The class will be there from Sun-
Thurs. Recommended amount of money to
bring for expenses outside of hotel?

Of course, I know that she will be
drinking, that's what it is all about
when you are 18. I trust her but; I do
not trust Cancun. What precautions
should she take, such as on this "Booze
Cruise"? Appreciate all your help.
This is my baby chic and her first big
trip away from home. Need reassurance
that things will be safe for her.

Thanks again.

Jenn

Steve Mar 13th, 2001 07:53 AM

Can you give me any info on Club Las Velas, because i've heard some bad reports about this.

Thanks

LuvCancun Mar 13th, 2001 11:55 AM

My words of advice to you and your daughter about going to Cancun are:
Be very careful! It will be a wonderful trip and I think she will be fine. I went on a senior trip myself 10 years ago and I thank my parents for letting me go. Anyway, I have been to Cancun 3x and it is great. I would caution her about being out in the clubs. If she is drinking I would make sure someone in the group be sober. Please be very leary of men buying you drinks. Unless you see the bartender pour it, I would not accept a drink from a stranger. Even a bottle of water. There are creepy guys everywhere here and in Cancun that prey on young cute drunk girls out at the clubs. People can slip something into a drink and the girls won't know what happened to them. I am not trying to scare you, just make you aware. DO NOT TAKE DRINKS FROM A STRANGER!! That is my 2 cents!! Have fun and take the Jungle Tour, it is awesome!

Lauren Mar 13th, 2001 05:35 PM

Hey Tommy. My friends and I are leaving in a few days for Cancun. I just wanted some more information about the nightlife. What are your favorite clubs? Which ones should we not miss? Also, is it true that there is a $20 cover charge for every club, and once you're in, all the drinks are free? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Paul Mar 14th, 2001 12:11 PM

Hi Lauren! I was in Cancun last year for spring break. The best and funnest clubs are: Dady-O, CocoBongo, LaBoom, and Senior Frog's. Yes, you pay $20 for a wristband to get you into these clubs. To get your drinks once you're inside, give the server $1 or 2 in tips. Otherwise, you will wait a while for your "free drinks". Have tons of fun, the clubs don't start happening until 11 or midnight.

Sharon May 6th, 2001 06:45 AM

We are a group of 8 women traveling on our girls trip to Cancun the first week of June and would like to either charter a catamaran or go on a party cruise. We are a "fun" group and would like to get some information on available charters and/or cruises. If we charter our own, do you have any recommendations as to private boats with fun skippers? My thought is to not necessarily have to go with big outfits that are strictly "tourist driven." I do realize that the cruise boats are not private, so there I would just be looking for a recommendation.

Stacy May 6th, 2001 05:59 PM

I'm interested in the Baccara hotel in Cancun because it sounds more intimate and quaint than some of the giant international resorts. Is it very special, or just ok?

Julie May 12th, 2001 08:43 PM

I will be staying at the Flamingo and wondered what dive shop is closest to the hotel?

Also, do you have to be a licensed scuba diver in order to dive in Mexico? Do they offer a quick diving course in Cancun?

Robin May 13th, 2001 01:10 PM

My friend and I are going to Cancun June 8th -15th and staying at the Cancun Palace. What is the hotel like? And what suggestions do you have for us to do for the nightlife? We are both 21 years old.

Jonathon Jun 17th, 2001 11:33 AM

Hi Tommy,

Curious if you can help me decide where to go in Cancun. Travel agent recomended Moon Palace but most say beach is full of seaweed and it's far from Cancun. I'm going with my cousin, we're both single and 30, is Riviera Maya the place to be, or should we look into Cancun or Cozumel. Any info would be appreciated.

thanks.

Matt Jun 19th, 2001 04:00 PM

Hi, this is a great thread, I hope you can help me out. I'm going to Cancun for a conference from July 13 to July 23 (during which I will put in a 4 days vacation as well). Where should I stay?
The conference is at the Convention Center at Punta Cancun (near the Camino Real hotel). Should I stay in a hotel near the convention center or downtown, where I hear there are economic hotels/hostels?
How far is downtown from Punta Cancun and how is the transportation?
Where is all the nightlife action, downtown or Punta Cancun? Is downtown dangerous? Does anybody know an economic but decent hotel downtown or elsewhere? How is the Holiday Inn downtown?
Thanks, Matt

Rita Jun 24th, 2001 07:21 PM

Would you reccomend a trip to Isla Contoy to see the birds? I have been in
the Cancun area before and I am fluent
in espanol. I just ned to know if this is a worthwhile trip. I am also going
to Merida.
Thanks for your help!

Cindy Jul 3rd, 2001 12:45 PM

My husband and I are planning an anniversary trip to Cancun. We have two dates of travel to choose from, 9-29 for a week or 10-27 for a week. We also plan on staying at the Hotel y Villas Solaris (timeshare). Can you provide some insight as to which date would be better regarding the weather and at which end of the strip this hotel is located at?

Craig Jul 4th, 2001 08:07 AM

Hi Tommy!
Going to Cancun soon and planning to stay at the Ritz-Carlton. Is snorkeling close or would a different location be better? I would prefer a 'nicer' resort...hence the Ritz-Carlton seems to be our first chioce. Beach, snorkeling and fine resort I guess would be our most important items we would be looking for.

Noemi Jul 4th, 2001 11:22 AM

Going to Playa del Carmen on July and we are planning to stay at the Rui Tequila. Is snorkeling close or would a different location be better?.
Snorkeling would be our first priority we would be looking for.
Karen Jul 9th, 2001 12:41 PM

We are looking at going to Cancun x-mas 2001 and staying at the Flamingo, it seems to be the most reasonable package. We are taking our 19 year old. I don't really want a lot of young kids. What is the average age group? Is it clean? How is the pool, the picture doesn't look great? Does it get sun all day or is it shaded by the building? The beaches? It is all inclusive is the restaurant satisfactory? Give me all the details you know please.

robin Jul 10th, 2001 07:54 AM

hi tommy - hope you're still answering questions! We have to decide between Moon Palace & Ritz Carlton for Cancun vacation this month! 2 adults, 15 & 7 year old .... which would you pick?

nique Feb 12th, 2002 07:26 PM

hey tommy,
is it possible to go to cancun and experience all the luxury of the beaches and nightlife without a hotel? I'm 17 and want to just pitch a tent on the beach, or stay in (the equivalent of) a hostel, if we are not generously offered to share a room here and there. Am I dreaming? Anywhere on the gorgeous yucatan to do this?

this is really cool of you!
-nique

Joe V. Feb 15th, 2002 08:56 PM

Is it possible to avoid the college spring breakers in early March? Where should I stay in Cancun that caters to the over 30 crowd? I would appreciate any advice you can offer

NADIA Mar 12th, 2002 09:21 AM
