Hey Tommy,
Me again, thanks for the answer,
I have another question.
Me and my buddies are going to party and I know mid april is past spring break, but will there still be an awsome atmosphere?
And what is your call on taking off to the little island, north of Cancun, maybe for a break for a couple of days? what about cost of hotel? thanks in advance! Todd

Kate Jan 9th, 2001 10:50 AM

Hola Tommy! My family is planning a family reunion of sorts over Christmas and New Years (2001/2002) and we are looking at Cancun as a good spot. We thought that renting a villa would offer us the space and privacy that we are seeking. We will have 10 - 11 adults and 7 or 8 kids. I did find one on the web that we are looking at and I wonder what you might know about it. You can see it on Vacation Rentals by Owner #4677. It is in Playa del Secreto and is owned by a professional chef. We would rent the two villas on the ends (there is another villa in between). Please advise--also if there is something else you would recommend, please let me know. Thank you Tommy!!!

tommy Jan 9th, 2001 11:40 AM

Hey Todd,

Your right about it not being springbreak but there is always a party atmosphere in Cancun. When I went in Dec. there definatly was. People go there to party year round. As for Isla Mujeres, I always recommend at least a day trip there. It is such a beautiful island and has the best beach in the area in Playa Norte. If you want to rent a place to stay checkout www.isla-mujeres.net for the rentals there. I have stayed at the Mar Y Sol apartments. It's not much but it's real cheap(about$30 a night). Very nice beach there and great view of Cancun across the bay.

Hope this helps

Tommy

tommy Jan 9th, 2001 11:51 AM

Hey Kate,

I know that Playa del Secreto is a beautiful, quaint little town about 5 min south of Puerto Morelos and about 15 min north of Playa del Carmen. I couldn't find the villa you were taking about, but if you give me the exact web address I bet I can get some more info for you.

Hope this helps

Tommy

Tracy Jan 9th, 2001 12:15 PM

What is Cancun like around Halloween? My college friends and I are planning a reunion in Cancun and want the spring break atmosphere in the fall? Any hotels you recommend in the Hotel Zone and close to the bars?

CHRISS Jan 9th, 2001 02:13 PM

HI TOMMY, WE ARE PLANNING A FAMILY VAC TO CANCUN PRESIDENTS WEEK. I'M THINKING ABOUT THE FIESTA AMERICANA CANCAUN FOR SEVERAL REASONS. 1) LOCATION TO TOWN AND OTHER RESTAURANTS 2) KIDS CLUB 3) SWIMMABLE BEACH. MY DAUGHTER IS 9 AND LOVES TO GET AWAY FROM US AT AN ACTIVE FUN KIDS CLUB (NOT A BABYSITTING SERVICE). hOWEVER WE WERE JUST IN CABO SAN LUCAS AND WE WERE COMPLETELY OVERRUN WITH VENDORS AND TIMESHARE SALES PEOPLE. I AM TRYING TO AVOID ANOTHER 'HUSTLE' VACATION. I KNOW YOU'VE RECOMMENDED THE CROWN PARDISE BUT I CAN'T FIND ANYTHING ON IT IN MY BOOKS. YOUR INPUT IS APPRECIATED. THANKS.

linda Jan 9th, 2001 06:12 PM

Hi Tommy- I need some help! We're a group of six - eight girl friends in late twenties traveling to Cancun for the first time. Not big on sightseeing but rather into relaxation and an exciting nightlife. I have read the correspondence regarding the Moon Palace. Do they have suite accomodations and how do I find out more about planning this little shindig? Also a travel agent I've contacted recently tells me direct non-stop flights are rare and evening travel to Cancun from Chicago is non existent. We want to go in June, leave on a Wednesday night and come home on Sunday night. Oh great one - please help me! THANKS!

tommy Jan 10th, 2001 10:46 AM

Hey Tracy,

Halloween can be very fun in Cancun. Some of the clubs have some real cool parties. It won't be as crazy as spring break but there will be people there. As for a resort, my favorite is the Flamingo which is right across the street from Pat O'Brien's and about a 5 min bus ride to Party Central. Another resort that I like that is a bit closer is the Royal Sunset. Both resorts offer great service, food and nice beaches.

Hope this helps

Tommy

tommy Jan 10th, 2001 10:52 AM

Hey Chris

The Fiesta Americana is a very nice resort. The Fiestas resort chain prides themselves in service and I've never heard anything bad about them. As for the timeshare, most resorts in Cancun have them. The easiest way I have dealt with them is just give them a very No the first day and they tend to leave me alone the rest of the time. As for vendors on the beach, they are not that bad in Cancun that I have experienced.

Hope this helps

Tommy

tommy Jan 10th, 2001 11:01 AM

Hey Linda,

Well as for the Moon all the rooms are big but they will only allow 4 people per room. Another thing to remember is that the Moon is not in the Hotel Zone, it's south of Cancun. It would be hard to get to the clubs at night. As for getting it planned checkout www.funjet.com or www.applevacations.com
These are charter companies and I believe they run out of Chicago. I know that both offer direct flights to Cancun but I'm not sure they do it on Wed. to Sunday, most likely Thurs thru Sun.

Hope this helps

Tommy

todd Jan 10th, 2001 05:44 PM

Hey Tommy,
Me again for the third time, you should write a book you are a wealth of info.
Last question I think, I know El publito is a little bit further down the strip, can you let me know how far from the bars, and how we get home after hours if the buses stop at midnight? I was wondering, I'm from canada, how much can you pick an all inclusive package from say the east coast in the US? I paid 1600 CDN for two weeks at the el publito, just comparing, thanks bud!
Todd

tommy Jan 10th, 2001 08:44 PM

Hey Todd,

I believe with Apple Vacations you can get 2 weeks for about $1300 to $1400 to the El Pueblito from New York or Newark, maybe less if you catch one of their specials at the time. As for the El Pueblito a bus trip will take about 10 to 15 min from the clubs abd the buses now run 24 hrs. So you won't have to worry about taxis or anything like that. Hope this helps and if you have anymore questions don't hesitate to post.

Have Fun

Tommy

Valeria Jan 13th, 2001 03:15 PM

Hola Tommy!

You would be a big help to us if you can answer this question. My friends want to get married in Cancun the weekend of cinqo de Mayo. That means there are about 25 of us friends who will be traveling to Cancun from Charlotte, North Carolina on May 4th and returning May 6th, 2001. I've tried to find us reasonable airfare (right now they are posting $900 roundtrip each!) and a moderate hotel near the beach (doesn't have to be ON the beach).

What would you suggest I do? What websites or travel agents should I use?

THANK YOU!!!

JC Jan 15th, 2001 07:28 AM

Have you ever heard of the hotel Iguana, or something along those lines? Apparently friends of mine are staying there, but I've enver heard of it. What can you tell me about it, and how far is it from the main tourist attractions in Cancun?

chris Jan 15th, 2001 09:01 AM

Tommy: How's the weather in September? Too wet? I want to take my wife there, but don't want to spend 3 days in the rain. It looks like September is the wettest month in Cancun. But how wet is wet?

Thanks,

Chris

Carrie Jan 15th, 2001 09:43 AM

What about the Aventura Palace? Do you know anyone who has been there? We are planning to go to the Cancun area in March and this is our top prospect so far. Thanks.

Rocky Jan 20th, 2001 04:22 PM

Tommy,

Is there any possibility that there are ATM machines in Cancun that we could utilize our USA bank cards?

Rocky

tommy Jan 20th, 2001 06:40 PM

Sorry all, been offline for a week.

Valeria, I would checkout www.vacationexpress.com They run charters from Charlotte get prices about $200-$300 round trip.

JC, I have never heard of the Hotel Iguana and I can't find it anywhere on my Can-Do map.

Chris, Yeah Sept is the wettest month in Cancun. That's the month with the most tropical activity. But unless there is a hurricane coming thru most likely you will have short showers in the afternoon for about 15 min then clear.

Carrie, The Adventura is a nice resort but it has a man made beach which is a little hard. I might suggest that if that's the one your looking at then checkout the RIU Palace or Iberostar

Rocky, there are ATM's all over Cancun and they will take almost any debit or credit card.

Hope this helps all

Tommy

Dean Jan 21st, 2001 01:06 AM

WE have a package at the Marriott Casamagna for March 16th weekend. I have nothing against Spring Breakers but would prefer some peace in a upscale resort. I cannot change my travel dates. Do you have any idea how crazy the Marriott may be at this time?
Jamie Milke Jan 21st, 2001 04:17 AM

Tommy,
Am presently considering a 7 day stay at Moon Palace for family of six. Have read your comments about being bumped to other Palace resorts. Which of the Palace resorts are most appropriate for children Is the issue with being bumped a frequent occurrence? Also, can you recommend any other resorts with all-inclusive packages that would be comparable to Moon or better and include activities for kids? Traveling in June if this impacts your recommendation on where to stay..
Looking forward to your reply. Thanks.

tommy Jan 21st, 2001 07:45 AM

Hey Dean,

Well I wouldn't worry to much. The Casa Magna has a policy against springbreakers plus it's probably too expensive for springbreakers to stay there. So it shouldn't be crazy. I would just say stay away from the streets in the evening.

Tommy

tommy Jan 21st, 2001 07:49 AM

Hey Jamie,

Well if you go to another Palace resort I would say the Beach Palace is the family resort of the Palace resorts but if your going for the kids I highly suggest you check into the Crown Paradise. This is the number 1 family resort in Cancun. It has the only kids water park in Cancun. Great service and food. That might be your best bet.

Tommy

esti Jan 21st, 2001 04:34 PM

Dear Tommy, Hopefully, you can ashed some light on my indecision. We are going to Cancun April 9 , (it seems that we miss spring break from what we read on your website, Hooray!!) We have been to the Sheraton and the Fiesta Americana Cancun . The FAC though somewhat limited in its facilities and amenities had a wonderful beach. shallow, clear and never andy waves, (its on the top of the seven). However, my menory of the Sheraton, ten years ago, was a black flag indicating dangerous swimming conditions everyday. Is this menore accurate, or was it just an unusual event? The hotel seems to have alot more going on, or at least its bigger. What do you know of the beach and the htel in general..
Thanks!!!!!!!!!

tommy Jan 22nd, 2001 10:04 AM

Hey esti,

The Sheraton is a nice resort. The staff is very, very good and so is the food. The beach is very nice. The resort even has some small Mayan ruins on their grounds. I really would worry to much about the ocean. Most of the times I have been in Cancun it has been red flag but I have found that it is still okay to swim or snorkel in. You will get more waves there but in March and April the waves seem to be not as bad because these are the 2 driest months and not much weather activities to stur up th waves.

Hope this helps

Tommy

John Jan 22nd, 2001 01:54 PM

Hi Tommy,
I have a stay in May booked at the Westin. What can you tell me about it. Also, what about getting around?

Angie Jan 22nd, 2001 03:18 PM

Hi Tommy! My husband and I are travelling to Cancun in early Feb. Wondering what weather to expect and if you have ever stayed at the Cancun Palace? Neither of us have been to Cancun!!!! Any info would be helpful!!!!

tommy Jan 22nd, 2001 09:41 PM

hey John,

The Westin is one of the best resorts in Cancun. If you checkout my website I have a few pictures from there on a couple of my pages(trip report). The resort is known for it's Mexican decor and great service. The beach is very nice and there is some great snorkeling right off shore. As for getting around the buses will run by the resort about every 5 min so it's not hard to get around. 5 pesos will get you anywhere in town you want to go.

Hope this helps

Tommy

tommy Jan 22nd, 2001 09:45 PM

The weather in Feb. is great highs in the mid 80's lows in the 70's. Very little rain if any at all. The Cancun palace is my favorite Palace resort. It's definately a high energy resort. Great staff, service, beach and atmosphere. Make sure one of the tours you take is to Isla Mujeres. A great island to explore.

Hope this helps

Tommy

Sandy Jan 23rd, 2001 01:40 PM

HI Tommy
I am traveling to Playa Del Carmen and was considering staying in a bungalow. It is quite inexpensive. Why is this? Are they unsafe? Open to passersby or "creatures"? I realize this is not related to Cancun, but i was hoping you would be able to let me know what a Mexican bungalow was like.
Thank you
Sandy

Videophile Jan 23rd, 2001 07:08 PM

Tommy- great info.
Any advice on the CAMINO REAL CLUB TOWER?
I'll be there in feb and was hoping it
was nice. Also- any day trip ideas
besides chichen itza or isla mujeres (already
did them!)
Finally- top 3 restaurant recommendations?

tommy Jan 23rd, 2001 09:21 PM

Hey Sandy,

Most small places in the Playa area can be very inexpensive. It doesn't mean that it's unsafe or not a nice place to stay. You have to remember these small hotels are having to compete with big mega resorts. If the bungalows are in Playa I seen some that were very nice and cost about $20 a night.

Hope this helps

Tommy

tommy Jan 23rd, 2001 09:27 PM

Hey Videophile,

The Camino Real towers are very nice. Try to see if you can get a room as high as you can. The view from the top is amazing. As for day trips go to Xel-Ha and Tulum. Both beautiful places. As for my top 3 restaurants.
1) Iguana Wana
2) Captain's Cove
3) Lorenzillo's

Have Fun

Tommy

CLAIRE Jan 24th, 2001 02:27 PM

Looey Jan 24th, 2001 10:12 PM

I just love getting my balls licked out on the beach in the hot sun!!

Kathleen Jan 25th, 2001 07:20 PM

hey! I'm spontaneously leaving for Cancun on 3 days. Been doing reading on Isla Majeres and think I want to spend as much time there as possible. I've read that the hotels are gone by noon. Has this been your experience.- Our plane arrives at 2:30-thinking maybe we should stay in Cancun first night. What do you think? We're doing budget travel so looking for safe but inexpensive any suggestions?

tommy Jan 26th, 2001 09:16 PM

Hey Claire,

The Tucancun is a nice 4 star resort. I have had a friend stay there 3 times and says that the staff is wonderful. The beach is very nice and the food is also pretty good. A very nice resort.

Hope this helps

Tommy

tommy Jan 26th, 2001 09:22 PM

Hey Kathleen,

I would say go ahead over to Isla Mujeres and get a place there. If you want a cheap place visit http://www.sundreamers.com/mim/home.htm
Mary will take care of you they have several different properties to offer and very reasonable prices.

Hope this helps

Tommy

Holly Jan 27th, 2001 12:38 PM

Tommy,

We are going to be booking a trip on Monday to the Blue Bay Club. What have you heard about it?

Susan Eason Jan 29th, 2001 08:17 AM

My husband and I are traveling to Cancun for the first time this February. We are staying at the Cancun Palace. The hotel does not provide transportation from the airport to their hotel. Is it a good idea to pre-book your round trip transporation (Airport-hotel,Hotel-airport) and so Which company offers the best prices? Or should we wait til we arrive at the airport to find our transportation?

jennifer Feb 5th, 2001 02:40 PM

Tommy,

The last time I was in Cancun I saw a go cart track there. Is it still there? Do you know how much it costs to drive them. I cant seem to find anything about this place. Please help.

Jennifer
