Leaving 3 weeks from Friday for Naples and the coast
|
No wonder Italy gets so crowded. It's full of Fodorites! We're in Rome, Venice, Tuscany May 12th to 30th. First trip to Italy. I've wanted to go all my life and it's taken me 48 years to get there. We were booked to go last May but my mother-in-law died in May and we cancelled. It's a belated 25th wedding anniversay gift to ourselves!
|
We should have a gtg in Rome. Now if we could figure out when???
|
I think a GTG in Rome would be great! I am there May 14-17th with my husband. Anyone else?
|
We will be in Rome May 24th but our schedule is pretty tight...
If anyone organizes a GTG though, post it here before May 13th (when we depart), and we will try to make it! |
leaving in 12 days for Rome!
|
I was hoping for a gtg on the 18 or 19th since I will be flying home from Rome on the 20th
|
A GTG, wow I wonder if I am fodorized enough? However we will be in Rome 5/19 to 5/24.
PS: early in my Fodor-lurking stages I kept asking my daughter what things like IMO meant, she told me authoritatively that GTG was "good to go", WELL I guess I am smarter than she is (or more of a lurker....) |
suehoff
Not to worry, I am kinda new around here myself. So what do you think about having dinner at L'Orso 80 on the 19th? It is very well reviewed here on Fodors. Anybody else wanna come? |
Totally laughing now because we will be in Rome on the 19th and probably having lunch or dinner at L'Orso 80. It's penciled in on our list of things to do!
|
Dejais! Cool! So make it dinner. Wow This could be a blast!!!
|
suehoff
At first I thought gtg meant good to go because whenever it comes to travel I am "good2go" :-d |

we will be in Venice the same time as you and we are from the Seattle area and so very familiar with Rick Steves. I'm sure you will have a great time. What district will you be staying in? We love the Dorsodora area. |
We leave May 10 for Pisa, Lucca and Florence. May 14 in Umbria for a week, Naples to Palermo on the ferry May 21, Palermo to Enna Sicily ( my husband's father's hometown) 2 days in Giardini Naxos. Back to Salerno and Maiori. Fly out of Naples to Dublin for 2 nights. Train to Galway, rented car south for 1 week. Shannon to London for 2 days. Home to The O.C.
|
hotpoet-sounds good to me, maybe even newbies can plan gtg, so I guess we maybe are good to go, right? should we have a secret handshake or password arranged?

I never got your emails. Try it again or just continue this thread. I am in Sorrento now. So how about Orso81, May 19 at 7:30. If no reply one way or the other I will assume no one is gonna make it. I will be carrying my GREAT EATS ITALY book |
ahotpoet...I did reply to Hotmail. *frown* We will be arriving that day and leaving the next to go to Venice so it all depends on jet lag. If we do go we will try to go at 7:30. Brief description....I have long blond hair and am late 40's. Hubby is early 50's and very Italian looking with mustache. And obviously, we will be the tired looking couple. HA!

Kismetchimera:
AnnaMaria, I'm sorry I have not gotten back to you before now, but our May travel plans have changed many times since my initial postings back in January! If you are still interested in getting together for a cappuccino with our teen girls while in Rome, I would love to hear from you! If not, I wish you and your companions very safe and happy travels! -Sandi- |
Sandi, I was thinking about you in these days.
I would love to have a cappuccino with you, I imagine that Brooke, my 13 years old grandaughter, would be happy to meet your daughter also. Our dear Bookchick is going to be in Rome at the same time perhaps we could have a personal GTG.. I will arrive in Rome the 29th at 7:50AM and I leave for Florence the 3rd. My e-mail is: [email protected] |
AnnaMaria, We also arrive on the 29th, but at 10:10 am, and we leave for Venice on June 2. We have two tours pre-booked, so I will send you an e-mail with more details so hopefully we can find a convenient time to meet. And, of course, Bookchick is also welcome!

Marica S :
I haven't been on this site for a while, so I just saw your message. I am not familiar with Venice, so I don't know the Desodora area. The ETBD tour will be staying at a hotel off the Grand Canal near the Accademia. Are you going to be in that area? This is my second tour with ETBD. I went to Rome with them in 2002 and had a great time. I am sure the group of travellers will be fabulous this time, too! |
I leave today!!! Sorry just had to say that - can't wait to be in Venice!

Mammamia I blew it! Ended up going back up to my room to get a sweater since it was chillier than expected and in all the hurry I forgot my Great Eats book. Then the buses were not running consistently. I actually thought I was waiting in the wrong place since there was no one else waiting except some other Americans from NY. I managed to sprint to the restaurant by 8pm. The waiters said no one was waiting so I went into the restaurant to have a look. A family of 5 from Iowa saw that I was alone and invited me to join them so after being as conspicuous as possible on the off chance that someone would step up and ask if I was "ahotpoet", I took them up on their offer. I had the antipasto misto della casa. The meatballs were the best thing on it. These people were very nice to generous to extend this invitation and turned what could have been a disaster (since I had no book to read or crossword puzzle to do and I hate staring into space between bites of food) into a pleasant evening. Still, I would have loved to meet up with Suehoff or dejais.
