Born in Winnipeg, Canada; raised in L.A., CA (parents couldn't stand the cold in Manitoba); living in North Central NJ, 50 minutes from NYC for 30+ years....Yikes!

BabsB Jun 25th, 2005 07:09 PM

Live in Elk Grove California, little city near Sacramento.

Have been to France, Italy, Switzerland, Morocco, Monoco and Spain for "Culture". Have been to Costa Rica, Mexico, Guatamala, Belize and Bahamas for Scuba Diving. Am going to Iceland, England, France, Belgium and Netherlands next month. Am planning on going to China in December and Germany and Austria in September. Gosh, no rest for the weary! :)

Where's part 1? Why two?

Sarvowinner Jun 25th, 2005 07:37 PM

I thought it was Part Eleven?

Melnq8 Jun 25th, 2005 07:42 PM

I think the last time I answered this I was living in Kuwait. We're now living in Duri, Indonesia.

Sarvowinner Jun 25th, 2005 07:44 PM

I live in Sydney Australia. While a native Australian, I spent 17 years in Canada - Windsor & Toronto. I have travelled quite a bit and it is my passion. If I didn't have a trip to plan, I would go crazy. We (my husband - also Australian) spent a year in Europe and Moroccco in the eighties where we ran a snack bar on the West Coast of France. These days trips are generally restricted to between 3 and six weeks. Love Asia: Vietnam, Thailand, Bali and Hong Kong.
We are currently planning an RTW with Xmas with family in Toronto, a couple of days in London, NYE en route to Dar es Salaam, a safari in Tanzania and a couple of weeks in South Africa. We can't wait especailly as out 14 yr old daughter is going to Toronto to school in August (staying with her cousins) for the the first semester. We will really miss her but she will have a blast.

Oops...

Just discovered that I've already responded to this thread.

Born and bred in Montreal, spent 3 years in Spain I loooove Spain, been to France,Germany, belgium England Korea China Japan Israel, I loooove Israel, Mexico, Brazil, I looooove Brasil, got stuck in rio durin 9/11 flight blackout. Oh thats a beautiful story when I passed the poorest favela (slum) in rio the day after 9-11 there was the biggest American flag I have ever seen in my life erected with old poles, aeriel rodes and scraps of junk, a flag of no less than 20 ft high by 40 feet wide in an area not normally condusive to Americans (Being Canadian I was always well treated). Proof that evryone morns for such a tragedy, it took my breath away to see how these people with no money fealt the pain for the victims. Oh ya and of course all over the US

mat003 Jun 25th, 2005 08:44 PM

Originally from Omaha, NE; then lived in Chicago for a bit; now technically live in London but travel all the time for work, so I'm sort of a nomad.

I would like to take a moment to touch on something that really bothers me. I think this is a great forum, because people all over the world read it, and I'm really trying to kill this stereotype:

Nebraska is not just one big farm. Especially Omaha. Omaha is the biggest city in Nebraska, with millions of people. I have never even been on a farm. The only cow I've seen has been at the Henry Doorly Zoo, and it's made of plastic. Every TV show makes fun of Nebraska like we're all farm hicks, so I am trying to set the record straight that there is more to NE than corn and steak. Please, if you ever, for whatever reason, are taking about NE, please pass this info on. I hate that damn rumor!

Thank you.

Worktowander Jun 25th, 2005 10:28 PM

As a fellow Midwesterner buried in the same rumor, I will say you're absolutely right. And add that there certainly is more to offer than corn and steak.

But few things better.

You can't buy food that good anywhere else, for any price. (licking lips)

Thanks for your welcome to we new posterers. As newcomers to the site, one feels a real amateur at present, but guess even amateurs have to serve their time before joining the many professionals on this site; however thank you again for your words of encouragement & we hope our odd comments may add some value to the travel value of all readers. San Antonio, Texas

I love this site. I'm so busy most of the time, but I still find time to check out what's going on here.
LoveItaly, I may be going to S.F. for a workshop in July. I thought I was going to go to Italy, but that will have to wait.

sk_whong Jun 25th, 2005 11:25 PM

From Hong Kong.

Never been to Europe before. But plan to be there next month. Find this site very informative and userfriendly.

baldworth Jun 26th, 2005 04:38 AM

North Georgia, outside of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

I am another new participant who is in awe of all of the info on this site. You guys are great! I only began European travel last summer but I have got the bug bad. We went to Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France, and England in three weeks and it hooked me. I have been studying European history since undergraduate school and it has always been a passion. My daughter and I are going to Paris in two weeks for a three day convention and then back to Europe for a four week trip in summer of 2006. I am also a teacher but special education not history, alas, so it is difficult to share my experiences with my students. I appreciate all of the tips even though I'll probably never be able to stay in some of the places that you describe. Maybe I can get my wife interested when the kids are all grown and we are closer to retirement.

Keep it coming!

John

lp_nyc Jun 26th, 2005 07:36 AM

I live in NYC...

I have travelled throughout the US.
Canada, Indonesia (Sumatra, Java, Bali), Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Venezuela, Belize, Costa Rica, Mexico, Norway, England, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, and lived in the Netherlands for a year and a half.

Have also been to Guadaloupe, but I don't really count that, as we stayed at a Club Med against my better judgement and wishes.

Hi

I'm from Ipswich in Suffolk but last year moved to Basingstoke in Hampshire, England but I would love to live in Italy.

mcburja Jun 28th, 2005 06:49 AM

We left Toronto about 12 years ago to live in the country about one hour west. Started reading this forum when beginning to plan our upcoming honeymoon in France (only 5 weeks to go!).

Amazing site with such great advice, laced with wit and enough acerbic commentary to make coming back each time worthwhile.

As a new-ish poster, have to admit I'm still trying to figure out 'ttt' and 'topping'.

cigalechanta Jul 5th, 2005 06:28 PM

it means topping as does ttt to the top of the thread as I am doing for you and if I notice that sometimes people with the information may not top during the day when you post, so later at night, you may top your post for the night posters to help.
Welcome!

Gruezi!

Half of my life I've spent in Olympia, Washington State's Capitol City, and the other half in Rothenthurm, Switzerland, located somewhere between Lucerne and Zürich.

Sekem Nov 8th, 2005 12:01 PM

London, UK.

I now live in North London (Golders Green) but I was born in Des Moines, Iowa- and have been lucky enough to live all over the US growing up- and then got to go to work for an airline, which was a childhood dream. Ended up living and working in Cairo, Riyadh, Paris, Madrid, and finally London. Feel in love with London, and a British woman and never left!

murphy89 Nov 8th, 2005 12:10 PM

Alberta, Canada. I love my home country, but can't wait to see more of the world!

Ocnmeg Nov 8th, 2005 03:19 PM

Evening all! Grew up in Oakhurst, NJ, moved to FL, moved back to NJ and now live in Ocean Grove 6 blocks from the ocean (and 5 minutes from where I grew up). Although we are overrun with tourists in the summer (who ask "Which way to the beach" when you can literally SEE it from my porch) I can't imagine living anywhere else:-)

NYC, way way way uptown. If anyone wants info on the Fried Chicken Hut, just let me know.

klondike Nov 8th, 2005 07:13 PM

Welcome, Palouse_girl! I hope you benefit from/enjoy the forum as much as I have!

I think the last time I responded to this question I lived on an Island, now I live in land-locked Juneau...not much easier, or more economical really, to get to beloved Europe!

cigalechanta Nov 16th, 2005 03:55 PM

I see new names posting, let's hear from you.

bonzhoor Jun 24th, 2006 10:47 PM

Just posted to the original "Where do you live" thread, thought I'd do it here too...

Hello everyone, born here, moved back to Manila, Philippines where my parents are originally from - hello kap1210 - moved to SF and lived in the city for a long time but not long enough, then moved to Boston - hello Cigalechanta - we're practically neighbors. It's so nice to see so many people here in Boston on this very nice and informative group - do you folks ever get together in Boston - would love to join!

I ran into this board the day AFTER returning from a trip to Paris because I was just so depressed and hung over from that wonderful city, and kept surfing the internet for more Paris, or at least the closest I could get to it. I found this group and was hooked for days!!! Got even more depressed because I realized what a wonderful resource it is and would have helped a lot with the planning. Oh well - now that I know, it will definitely help with all future planning!!!
