I live in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. In Europe I have been to Ireland, Scotland, Holland, France, Germany, Italy and Belguim. In the Caribbean I have been to Bahamas, BVI, USVI, Turks and Caicos, St. Martin, Anguilla, St. Kitts/Nevis, Grenada, Grand Caymen, Aruba, Jamaica, Cuba and Pueto Rico. I have also been to Costa Rica, Panama, Columbia, Hawaii.

I live in Northern Illinois, about 20 miles from Chicago. My entire family ancestry consists of immigrants
from various European countries and none of us had arrived in the USA prior to 1933. Most of my life has been spent in Chicago IL proper.

My wish is to spend at least 2 or 3 months in Europe sometimes during the next 3 years. I'm working on it.

My love for travel is not shared by many around me so I often have traveled without being "in couple", and have found that I have never regretted a European trip, or for that matter, any other outside North America adventure either. The last three years I have traveled often but I am seeing more of the USA now as my present job gives me less time in sequence to vacation. I have about 8 European trips under my belt during the last 22 years, mostly into Austria, Germany, Italy or Sicily where I have living relations. But I have been to many others also.

We moved here just over a year ago from the DC area. I grew up in Virginia Beach, so Pittsburgh is A LOT different!

mamarosa Dec 18th, 2004 03:47 PM

New poster here! Tarpon Springs, FL. I was born in Tarpon Springs, grew up between here and Keighley, West Yorkshire UK. Have travelled numerous times to England, have also been to Greece.

I love this site......hubby believes I'm becoming addicted! I adore reading the stories and travelling vicariously through all of the contributors!

We will be travelling to the UK this summer. It will be the first trip for the kids and hubby. I'm very excited and I'll probably plan this thing to death!

LoveItaly Dec 18th, 2004 05:14 PM

mamarosa, welcome!!! And yes, sigh, Fodors can become an addication. But tell your husband how absolutely knowledgeable you will be for your trips thanks to all the wonderful and generous posters here. Do you think that will help? :-" It is worth a try, LOL.

luvpenguins Dec 18th, 2004 07:49 PM

New Mexico (the state not the country LOL)

LoveItaly Dec 18th, 2004 09:51 PM

luvpenguins, in case some people didn't get your comment, several polls have showed that many people in the US think New Mexico is in Mexico. Can you believe that? LOL indeed.

BTW, I was able to spend 3 months several years ago in New Mexico when a former classmate of mine was there due to her husbands job. They invited me to join them and I did. Fantastic state!!!
Very beautiful and sure have some wonderful memories.

At 4,500 ft. in the forested mountains of north-central Arizona. Visibility: about 60 miles. Four mild seasons. Almost no bugs. An earthly paradise.

ucsun Dec 19th, 2004 10:55 AM

the OC...wow who knew one TV show would make a county famous down to 2 letters. but for those outside the states...orange county, ca. formerly DC...i guess i live in areas that can be identified by 2 characters only. so where else could i live (not counting LA)?

Maria_H Dec 20th, 2004 03:01 AM

I'm fairly new to this amazingly international forum. I live in the north of England, just 20 minutes drive from Manchester airport, my escape route to the world.

We holidayed throughout England, Wales and Scotland, when our children were small, enjoying walking and visiting the great outdoors, as well as historic houses and castles. Now they are grown up, we can also venture further afield. We've done driving trips through Germany and Austria to the Czech Republic and through northern France to Switzerland. We've visited Italy - Tuscany and a driving trip from Rome to the Cilento. Also done packages to Turkey, Cyprus, the Canaries and about a dozen different parts of Greece.

As you can see I'm hooked on holidays! Next stops, long weekends in Budpest and Venice and the Canadian Rockies in the summer...

Ralstonlan Dec 20th, 2004 03:51 AM

We're from Essex, Massachusetts, a very small town 30 miles north of Boston. We are on a point of land known as Conomo Point, one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Every time we travel, despite how absolutely wonderful our trip may have been, we know returning home will still be the most beautiful. Thank you Fodor's for turning me into an addict! I love this forum!

SingleMom Dec 20th, 2004 04:56 AM

You guys have it all wrong - Africa is the most stunning and interesting place to visit (but that said I'm leaving in a week to fly to Italy!)

I live outside the city of Durban, which is on the east coast of South Africa, and has the largest port in Africa. It's subtropical and has the most amazing winters, and temperatures right now are hitting around 30 degrees C but with added humidity. Durban is also the holiday capital of South Africa because of its wonderful beaches, mountains close by and game parks in between - not to mention the warm and friendly inhabitants!

In my previous job I travelled all over Southern Africa, and as far afield as Nigeria, but I try to take my son on an overseas trip to somewhere exotic every 2 - 3 years. Italy is exotic for us as we never see snow where we live!

cod Dec 20th, 2004 02:33 PM

I've been scrolling through these posts posted since September, and it seems I am unique! I live in Ireland, in the Inishowen Peninsula in north Donegal, with stunning scenery, but no weather to match, so we very rarely seem to get Fodorites here. Most of the posts relating to Ireland seem to refer to Kerry and Galway. You don't know what you are missing! All you need to do is bring a raincoat!

hobbes Dec 20th, 2004 04:36 PM

In the last year Bangkok, New Delhi and now HK...

SeaUrchin Dec 20th, 2004 11:11 PM

Cod, I have been in your area and it is so beautiful I would love to return sometime, as soon as I get off of my Italy kick.

I agree more tourists should come up your way, wonderful scenery, music and friendly people!

Hello,

I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. We have beautiful long autumns, warm summers, yucky springs and milder than the average Canadian winter. Halifax is also the world's largest natural harbour.
Here are some pictures of the area:

I was born in Chicago and have lived in Seattle, Albany, Willow Grove, Pa and now in Huntington,Long Island, New York. I met St. David in Honolulu, Hawaii and he has been to many more places than I, a good bit courtesy of his Uncle Sam. He has even been to the North Pole. We have made many trips to Europe, but find something new on Fodors all the time. Traveling is a wonderful experience and talking to others on this forum with the same passion is a delight.

Spend lotsa time in Italy/Greece. Haven't seen too many tourist requests for Houston, wonder why not, maybe I should look on the USA thread. Hmm.

I live in Castellón, Spain where I was born.
I'm sure I have not travelled as much as most people here (Spain, South of France, Italy , Lisbon and London) but I feel very happy when I can help anyone and at the same time get help for my travels :) I also practise my English and specially learn some language that you don't find in the academic texts :)

AnthonyGA Jun 25th, 2005 06:28 PM

Paris, France.

Currently (at 4:25 AM) the weather is slightly overcast with a temperature of about 68° F. The weather has been extremely hot lately; into the 90s during the day (the normal highs for June are in the low 70s). My tiny air conditioner was not designed for such high temps and so the heat in the apartment has awakened me early (it's cooler outside, but Parisian apartments heat up a lot faster than they cool off). Usually the weather at this time of year is beautiful, but the past few years have been increasingly hot; the effects of global warming are undeniable in Paris.
