Hey, Margi, I'm older than you! Born in 1942 in Toronto. I've always lived here and figured I'd never leave, but am now making definite (if slightly long-term) plans to move to Victoria, BC. This is a great thread.
|
Margi,

You are a young chick compared to some of us!!One poster is in his 80's!!

For anyone has persevered to the end of this.......I as born/bred in South west Wales.......have lived in Bermuda, Boston, MA.....met my husband-to-be and now we both live in London UK.
And you are all invited to the wedding!!!
|
Oops....and I have just re read my message after posting it, and realised that I either can't spell or can't type. LOL. Oh well.....you can't have it all.

Margi, being born in 1947 means you are probably the AVERAGE age for people posting on this board, though I have no statistics to prove that. I, too, was born in 1947 and find that a lot of folks here are quite a bit older than me, though there are those who are younger than my children. Fodorites make up a world-wide community, from a wide variety of ages, with a wide variety of incomes. The only thing we all have in common is that we love to travel and to learn about it.

Hi Mimi,
I was born in Orleans, France, moved to So. California, and went to university in Ireland where I have been ever since. A husband and two children later, we now live between Ireland (during school terms) and Andalucia the rest of the year. Just found this website and I think it is quite interesting. Some people are very seasoned travellers and offer helpful advice to others.

Hi Mim,
I too love France, and live in Derry, N.H. If I may comment and that other thread, that no matter where you live, there are ignorant people but your attitude could keep them away from you.

What number is this one Mimi????

No one on the board from Las Vegas, Nevada? I was raised near Buffalo, NY, better know to sports writer's, in the '70's, as the arm pit of the East. Survived the blizzard of '77 in Rochester, NY and just had to give up that snow for sunny Vegas.

I think this thread has been interesting. It seems a lot of us have done some moving, isn't that listed under travel somewhere?

Greetings Mimi,
I usually live in a wooded area, here and abouts. When I vacation, I like to visit this site. When I return to the woods I can tell all my troll mates how ego, sometimes generosity, permiates the board. It makes me want to be like all of you. However, as a troll officer I must return to the woods. Remember this: the soul of a troll is to control.

Marge, you didn't read well enough. I've said numerous times (including above) that I'm from Las Vegas--and I was raised outside Buffalo too. Concur wholeheartedly with your decision to give up the snow and cold. Why don't you e-mail me. It appears we are the only two from LV, but, fi we have a GTG we can then know we'll have 100% participation!
|
Can't believe I'm the only Fodorite who resides in San Diego. Are there enough for a get-together---like at lesast one more?

Hi, Mimi-
Great post! I was born & raised & live in Edmonton, Alberta - the city with the largest urban "parks" area in North America (our river valley trails system- incredibly beautiful). My boyfriend was born & raised in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan but has been an Edmontonian since 1976. There's the rest of the prairies heard from, Maurice from Thompson!

We are all nervous, on edge here in Boston. To think they could easily hijack two planes is frightening. Like you, Mimi, I love France (Paris) and I am grateful to have visited early summer.
|
Pandora we are all frightened. That scare about the fire at Prudential put alot of people futher into depression. Luckily, it was caused by a mishap. But they have permanently closed the beautiful observation tower at John Hancock.

to perplexed:

Kuala lumpur, Malaysia is in South East Asia and home to the world's tallest buildings, the Petronas twin towers. Ironically just 50km away is one of the oldest tropical rainforests in the world called Taman Negara. It is 100mil years old and there are still tribespeople and wildlife such as elephants and tigers there.

Oh, I'm from Penang, Malaysia but now work in Singapore.

Flyover

It's called flyover, because when you travel from one coast to the other, you *flyover*, you don't want to stop where I live. We have about 60 nice days a year.

I really hate where I live. You would too. Can you guess where?

Hello to whoever is still following this interesting thread. Born in Lynchburg, VA, grew up from age 6 in Danville, VA...between college and career, have lived in Charlotte and Winston-Salem, N.C., Waltham and West Newton, Mass (sub Boston) Annapolis, MD, suburban Philadelphia (actually Cherry Hill, NJ) Danville, California (east of San Fran) and now back in Danville, Virginia. Wife, Amelia, was born in Rhode Island, early years in Puerto Rico, teens and early 20's in Jacksonville, FL. (Not to start anything, but I could have saved a lot of space here by just saying, "American by birth, Southern by the grace of God." Anyway, we love to travel, and hope to get back to France late next spring, world events and personal finances permitting. P>S>If you know anyone who thinks the term "global village" is just some cutesy catch-phrase, refer them to this thread! Best to all, RobDaddy and Mamma Mia
|
Not my real name because I was flamed on another thread. I live in a town where people are nice to each other. My state of Maine is friendly. I may be only in my late teens but I am not nasty.
