Next week we leave for 3 weeks in Italy. Over the summer we will probably take a couple of weekend drives to visit our favorite vineyards in Northern Virginia, another weekend visit to our daughter in NYC, and we almost always get to the beach at Chincoteague, VA at some point during the summer. I'm sure we'll go to a couple more Orioles' games (we got to do Opening Day this year). Early this fall I'll "have" to go to New Orleans for work.

We'll be in Lodnon June 12-17. After that home for the summer except a wekk plus trip east to Syracuse, NY and Providence, RI to visit relatives.

The next foreign trip will be to Macedonia for our "daughter's" wedding. PLease say a prayer [or do whatever suits your piety] that Macedonia will be able to stop the violent spiral that seems to be emerging in the past few days:( For English translations of Macedonia news headlines: http://www.ok.org.mk/ Anyone interested in other sources please email.

Hawaii in late May/early June. Turks and Caicos in July. Turkey in late August. Berkshires in late July.

dan woodlief May 6th, 2001 06:16 PM

Betsy, I won't know if it matches up until I set our dates. It could easily be the end of August before that happens. We have to make sure someone can keep our 2-year old while we are away. I don't think Italy is ready for Hurricane Claire yet. I will keep your dates in mind and let you know.

Betsy May 6th, 2001 06:51 PM

Dan

Will await your itinerary. Maybe there will be other Fodorites who will be interested in getting together in October in Florence, Rome or Venice.

A two-year old could probably dismantle Italy, given the chance! Good luck with your sitter search.

I see that you enjoy Freiburg too. We have been there three times and like it so much that we hope to do a house exchange there in the summer of 2002. We're hoping that someone in Freiburg wants to spend some time in the SF Bay area.

Unfortunately, no Europe trips in the near future, my little bundle of joy (six months old now) put all of those on hold! So this summmer we'll go to my brother's wedding in Seattle and then visit Vancouver and Victoria while were at it (10 days), and then our annual vacation with all of our friends in a huge rented house in Donner Lake (nice little friendly lake near Tahoe)(1 week). Not to bad, really, considering we're "grounded". :)

We leave June 21 for Ireland-10 days there. Then flight to London-3 days there and for the Finale~Paris!!-4 days.
We are a group of 10! Can't wait!!
Next Feb.-a long time dream! The Olympics!! We have reservations for: the Women's FINAL Ice skating!! AND:the closing ceremonies!!! AND women's giant slalom, mens bobsled and men's ski jump!
It will be a blast, an experience etc.
(it BETTER be fun because we could have gone to Europe for the Closing Ceremonies alone!)But FOR US it is the trip of a lifetime...
Patti

I have not planned anything yet, for the first time in years..., I am holding out for a "special deal". Don't know if something will come up, but there is always hope! My thinking is that since tourism in the U.K. is down due to the Hoof and Mouth scare.., I might be able to land my best deal EVER! Wish me luck!

Ursula May 7th, 2001 05:33 AM

Good luck John!

Heather May 7th, 2001 06:46 AM

Wow! What a lot of exciting plans.

Well, I hope everyone has happy, safe, memory-filled trips.

Can't wait to read the trip reports (especially Marc's trip to Russia, as it sounds fascinating and I desperately want to see St. Petersburg).

Happy travels,
Heather

We have learned that we enjoy our vacations better when we set up a base camp, relax, and take numerous day trips. To celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary, we are returning in June to Paris for 8 days, 2 weeks in a Gite in Luberon Valley, and three days in Antibes. We are counting days.

Kavey May 7th, 2001 07:40 AM

Helloooo

Going to Normandy on May 25th, Namibia and Botswana for just over 2 weeks on June 15th, San Francisco on July 21st.

Dont usually take most of my annual leave in the space of a couple of months, just worked out that way...

The rest of the year is going to be lots of Friday to Sunday night short breaks!

Happy Travelling Friends

Kavey

Cindy May 7th, 2001 07:51 AM

How do you people get so much vacation time? I only have 3 weeks, and spent 1 week in St. Lucia in February, will spend another week at the beach in August, maybe 2 days with my sister in Vermont in October and the other few days are for emergencies! Planning a 10-day trip to Italy next June though. Hope you all have wonderful trips this summer and looking forward to reading your posts when you get back from your adventures!

Kavey May 7th, 2001 08:04 AM

Hi Cindy

In Europe many of us get more leave per annum than people working in the USA.

I posted a question on this some time ago and many Fodorites from around the world were kind enough to enlighten me on annual holiday entitlement in their countries.

I am not sure what it was called though, perhaps someone with a better memory can find and top it?

I get 24 days a year plus 8 national holidays (xmas, bank holidays etc) plus up to 6 weeks paid sick leave. (In UK this cannot be used like extra holiday)

Lori May 7th, 2001 08:14 AM
