This June to Brugge, Alsace region, and Black Forest for a total of 15 days. Too short, but that's all the time I can get off of work.

In August we are leaving for Europe to STAY for a year! After going to Europe for three-week vacations four summers in a row, we decided we wanted to stay LONGER! We are going to teach English in Slovakia and travel as much as possible on weekends and vacations. Hope it will be as wonderful as we are thinking it will be.

Summer kicks off with a week outside Vienna for a business trip. Then several day trips to Paris plus a couple of week-end trips to the Loire Valley and Normandy. At the end of July, we're driving from Brussels to the Ticino, stopping off in Baden-Baden. From the Ticino, driving up to Velden, Austria, and then back to Brussels. Then a couple more day trips to Paris and bang--it's fall again!
BTilke

Several trips w/in the continental U.S. (Atlanta, Outer Banks of North Carolina, Virginia Beach & Philadelphia). In September, my husband and I are traveling to the Loire Valley - staying in Amboise as a base - then Paris for a week, then on to Salzburg for a few days and finally, Munich. I wish we didn't have to wait until September, though!!!

No foreign travel (but that comes in the "off" seasons for us--next spring hope to do Amsterdam and if enough time, Iceland). First two weeks in June to Northern California to visit family and friends in the SF Bay Area and San Jose area, plus a romntic getaway to the Big Sur coast for a few days for relaxation and to celebrate our tenth anniversary. Hoping for a weekend getaway on the East Coast (home) this fall.

Kam isn't kidding about those No. CA houseguests; my mom informed me that, beginning with us, she'll have houseguests this summer for 6-8 weeks straight, coming in from as far as Australia and South Africa.

Lulu May 6th, 2001 07:26 AM

Just wondering how many holidays you all get off work?

adrienne May 6th, 2001 08:08 AM

In mid June I’m off to Venice, Brugge, and Paris for just over two weeks with my niece (her first European trip and she’s so excited). Nano, I’ll be leaving Paris just as you arrive…will wave to you at the airport! In August it’s London for a week. I usually avoid Europe in the summer but this year seems to be an exception.

Adrienne

P.S to Lulu…I get 4 weeks vacation plus 7 personal days. I’m carrying over 14 days from last year. If I had more money I'd take another trip this year, off season.
Russia in June--my third visit to St Petersburg, plan to go on a cruise on Lake Lagoda, and of course attend the White Nights Festival. Then on to Siberia (my first time in Asia!), to Irkutsk and Ulan-Ude.

We are going to Paris [in a week--wish it would warm up!]. We're staying in a studio at Citadines St. Germain [thanks, Christine]. It all started with the idea of taking our difficult cat with us and renting for 3 months [to really live out the dream]. In the end, that seemed like too long to leave home, and we trust Citadines more than individual owners. Because we're Brit Air freq. flyers and they won't allow animals in cabin the cat gets to stay home {inside as she won't come in for sitter and we have coyotes]. She will need her usual therapy when we return [but that could start a whole new thread]!

We alternate the search for places for a second/retirement home (somewhere near the sea in France) with other holidays. So this year we were in Mexico inspring, and will visit Biarritz in the autumn. Next spring it will be the Floriade in the Netherlands.

Fun stuff!

We were going to Italy this summer but had to postpone due to my husband's knee surgery - so...
We asked the kids where do you want to go instead? They said LAS VEGAS! Kids!
Were doing the Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Disneyland loop - two weeks in the car. Actually, a very fun trip that I did with my family when we were kids.
Audrey

P.S. We will go to Italy in 2003, England in 2002 - so don't feel sorry for us or anything!!
Audrey

Betsy, I will have a pin. When are you planning to go? We will probably be there sometime in the first three weeks of the month. I don't think this will be a very long trip because finding a baby sitter for that time isn't all that easy right now. Probably 10-11 days in Italy. I would like to see the countryside, but for this first trip (of many I am sure) I think I would like to start in Rome for about 5 days, spend 3 days in Venice, and probably try to squeeze in a couple in Florence. It is a mental battle between approaching Italy with a regional strategy or hitting the big three on the first trip.
