Paris: May 3 through 16.

Poohgirl Feb 15th, 2007 08:17 AM

In September I'm going to Budapest and plan to stay in several other cities outside the capital, but I haven't decided which ones yet. I'm also hoping for a long weekend in Chicago sometime.

In addition to being retired, I wonder if a lot of these posters are European or maybe from Austrialia/New Zealand? Although I don't know about our Down Under friends, we all know how Europeans are fortunate to receive more vacation time that we do in North America.

So far...Rome - 7 nights end of May/beginning of June. Can't wait!

Hope for more as the year goes on.

Our rough plan for September and/or October is Liverpool, Blackpool, Manchester (including the Manchester Ship Canal cruise), York, Belfast, possibly Dublin, possibly the Orkneys or Shetlands depending on time. My main interest is industrial and commercial sights, particularly of the industrial revolution era, especially railways, shipping, and canals.

Tulum, Mexico next week. Probably something spur of the moment in May. Possible Switzerland in July for the International Horn Society meeting, will try, but probably not going to happen. Planning for Lviv and Kiev in September or October. New York City and Fort Lauderdale in between to visit family.

End of March: professional meetings in Tampa, FL (have never been to Florida!)

May 14-30: France (7 days Paris)

Late June (maybe): North CArolina (wedding), with stop off in DC area to see relatives

March - either Vlieland or Terschelling, and later in the year La Palma (Canaries) for a week, and back to the UK at tsome point to see the family no doubt. Saving hard for Tanzania next year so not so many trips this year.
I envy all of you the time and money for your trips!

To Seattle in March for my brother's 70th birthday, to Yellowstone in May--just because despite having lived much of my life in the West, I've never been there. To London for a couple of days on the way back from our main trip to Ireland.

We have four grandchildren, and we promised all of them a trip when they turn 16. In the past we have visited Australia, New Zealand, western U.S., and last month the baby turned 16.

On Memorial Day, we take her and a friend to Rome, then on to Paris, and finally London. It will be a little more than two weeks, and a delightful time with a sweet little girl.

After this summer, it's just us old folks. BORING....

Hi Poohgirl, in relation to public holidays for NZ/Aust, here in NZ, the norm is only 3 weeks annual leave. However, there is legislation going in this year to bring it up to 4 - this will bring NZ in line with Australia. In Europe, those lucky people seem to have at least 5 or 6 weeks off as the norm. I haven't got anymore holidays planned this year, as used them all up in Dec/Jan this year when we went to Europe for 5 weeks. So I will have to wait quite a long while now for another holiday. Feel devastated about it really.

JimF~ Your trip is going to be so special! I went on several vacations with my grandparents and they are some of my most cherished memories! Your granddaughter will never forget it!

My roommate and I are living in Istanbul this summer!! May 23-Aug 15...I unfortunately will have to come back and finish my undergrad.

Wow...my plans suck for 2007! :(

I will be going to Paris/Switz in 2008!!! :)

I am amazed at most of your travel plans. I look forward to the days when I can go on several trips in the same year (if those years ever come at all). Not to be presumptuous...but I'm assuming that many of the posters in this thread are retired.

...sigh.....

I'll be retired in 20 years :(
