sfgate.com said there are 34,000 acres burning, last night tv news said 1200 firefighters. Sure hope they are all safe. A very difficult situation as most of the area is steep mountains, no roads etc. Our poor fightfighters. They are true heros. Have a firehouse around the corner from me so know several of them. Great people.
Now it is the middle of the afternoon and Vacaville does not have the smoke as we did last night but the sky is a heavy horrible dull gray color. Not pleasant.
But the good news is that the terrible winds are no longer blowing.
Marilyn knowing you are in Marin Co. I am really surprised you are not being affected, that is interesting. But sure glad for you.
And this fire is nothing compared to what Florida has just gone through.
Don't know how are dear families and friends in Florida kept their sanity.

It's 55 degrees here in Ravenna,Ohio. The leaves are at their peak and it's raining. I just turned my heat on for what I fear will be the next 6 months.
No fall festivals here, nothing here.

Tropo - I was on Fraser Island back in 1977, short visit since we were careless and left the lids of our coolers and the dingoes had a feast overnight! And I thought I was safe with my Aussie friends.

Now at home in the Isle of Man, after weeks of rain and very windy (aftermaths of the Atlantic hurricanes), now relatively warm, 12C and just breezy.

But the daffodils are shooting out in my flowerbeds, way too early!! Global warming??

I'm back home on my tiny island in the Dutch West Indies after a week of business in Miami. I thought it was hot there, but I now I'm thinking that it's hotter here than is typical for this time of year.

For some odd reason we have had not one iota of wind or breeze in the past two weeks and the ocean literally looks like a calm lake. It's quite eerie and I have no idea what type of atmospheric conditions are causing it, but hope it ceases soon.

Autumn...fall? What's that? Sigh....I love that time of year, and although I love it here on the island, I also wish I were in Texas or elsewhere with the 50 degree nights and crisp 70 degree days. Sigh.

At least we only have one more month until the Christmas winds start. Then, it'll be time to pull out the sweatshirts and jackets. :)

Here in the beautiful Blue Mountains west of Sydney Australia we are having unseasonably hot weather with extreme fire danger and total fire ban. I empathise with the San Francisco posters. Yesterday was the hottest October day since 1942. Fire season has been brought forward two months and there are fires burning down the coast. Having been involved in the local volunteer bushfire brigade for the last 20 years I am worried that this is the beginning of a very bad season. We are in extreme drought. Oh well, enjoy Autumn, I can't wait.

I'm here in Union, NJ about 15 miles west of lower NYC. It's a beautiful fall day, high 60's with clear blue skies. Leaves are beginning to fall. I was in &quot;the city&quot; today and it was fantastic.

No festivals in my town, but went to the Garden State Wine Growers Festival (there are 23 vinyards in NJ) and the Annual Long Beach Island Chowder Fest two weekends ago. Plus there's lots of Pumpkins &amp; hayrides &amp; apple picking &amp; Crysanthamums gallore! :)

Kismet - There's nothing better than warm sunny days and cool crisp nights. We are loving our Smith &amp; Hawken fire pit &amp; toasting marshmellows!

It has been a glorious day her in the Boston Are. We drove to New Hampshire and had lunch at an herb farm and theb onto the farm stands to buy pumpkins and gourds. All the countryside homes were decoratd with scarecrows, ghosts, jack-o-lanterns for the approaching Halloween.
the heady aroma of the frost-kissed apples and the ripened grapes filled the air to make me remember along with the hickory nuts I picked up, that these days are a gift and a prelude before winter enters like a lion.

I'm sitting in my office looking at the beautiful Southern California mountains, they are turning pink and grey while the sun lowers. It was just right today, not too hot and not too cold and no breeze at all. A few minutes ago, friends and I sat outside under the umbrellas, gossiped and drank coffee, and, oh well, I confess, ate some Krispy Kremes!!

Los Angeles, California reporting. Today was a lovely day, a bit windy, in the low 80s, very dry. Fire season has forced smoking/campfire bans in local mountains. Lots of festivals going on; houses decorated with ghosts and goblins. Seasons change slowly here in the 'burbs. The large old oak(?) trees that canopy our street have not turned colors yet. Our neighborhood is VERY quiet and VERY dark at night (no street lights). I love the sound of dried fallen leaves as they rustle down the street from the warm October breeze. It's clearly that time of year to rent Halloween and enjoy a glass of wine on a spooky Saturday evening.
