Whathello Paris

A sad farewell... we will miss you.

Traviata Sep 21st, 2017 11:51 AM

I still have hopes we will meet again at a GTG in October or November.......

iris1745 Sep 21st, 2017 12:09 PM

Perhaps not the WhatHello name, but he is still lurking.

Not sure about the lounge, but definitely on the Europe board.

Keep posting Traviata for your GTG.

suze Sep 21st, 2017 12:10 PM

WhatHello was never in the Lounge.

PalenQ Sep 21st, 2017 12:11 PM

pariswat lives or hibernates!

bvlenci Sep 21st, 2017 12:12 PM

What happened?

suze Sep 21st, 2017 12:13 PM

They quit. Announced it on a thread over in Forum Help section.

I have enjoyed Whathello's posts. He can get lively, yes, but he is a wealth of information. I had the pleasure of meeting him in person too. He is lovely.

Another sad loss to this forum.

iris1745 Sep 21st, 2017 12:28 PM

Pariswat; What about our GTG next May/June??

suze Sep 21st, 2017 12:38 PM

Hopefully people planning GTG have exchanged emails? Or Facebook or something?

suze Sep 21st, 2017 12:45 PM

Is Woinparis still an active account? Is Pariswat still alive?

iris1745 Sep 21st, 2017 12:58 PM

<Is Pariswat still alive?> Yes.

bvlenci Sep 21st, 2017 01:26 PM

On Fodor's, there is life after death.

Leely2 Sep 21st, 2017 04:38 PM

This guy resurrects himself all the time.

Agree with Leely. It is mad.

bvh Sep 21st, 2017 05:01 PM

I agree with Leely2. The worst example of troll behavior I have ever experienced on a board. I can't believe it was tolerated here. I pity the poor folks who are entertained by this behavior. Life has to be pretty dull to find his narcissism tolerable.

Macross Sep 21st, 2017 05:05 PM

I have always had decent back and forth with him.

kja Sep 21st, 2017 05:32 PM

I hope you will come back, Whathello - under whatever name!

marvelousmouse Sep 21st, 2017 05:57 PM

He was fun but often posted nonsense. I don't mean stuff that I disagreed with, I mean stuff that was probably meant to be funny but didn't make much sense. Too bad, though. Have a feeling he's a great guy to get a beer with.

Don't really agree with his reasoning, though. If you don't want to post about travel, why post on fodors? I actually like the travel only rule. The off topic subforums of other travel are generally stupid game threads or politics or oversharing personal life stuff. No value in it.

And his thing about moronic posts...well, stupidity is not limited to fodors, sadly. Nor is it limited to the virtual world. The novel I picked up last weekend is a sad testament to that fact...I'd like to think the author was a monkey but that's probably an insult to monkeys. No doubt they write better than that.

Belinda Sep 21st, 2017 06:09 PM

Maybe his humor was lost in translation. Marvelousmouse refers to his moronic posts. I for one did not appreciate him calling me a "moron".

I think he needs a break. Nobody forces him to answer questions. He seemed to find it a real chore. The people who lost out where the novices who show up here with questions and either get bad info or insults.

Sarastro Sep 21st, 2017 07:36 PM

I think he is a marketing genius.

fuzzbucket Sep 21st, 2017 10:18 PM

He's Belgian. Enough said.

Bokhara2 Sep 22nd, 2017 02:02 AM

More entrances & farewells than Nellie Melba.

bilboburgler Sep 22nd, 2017 03:21 AM

Belgian genius, but what will be the new name ? (see what I did there) :-)

menachem Sep 22nd, 2017 03:38 AM

Whathello is not a troll. bvh and Leely2. Now about you two, I'm not too sure.

socaltraveler Sep 22nd, 2017 06:05 AM

I read more than I post in this forum, and with the exception of one poster, I have always found the name changes that some affect with regularity to be very confusing. Regardless of language, something is always lost in translation before I figure it out the 'voice'.

NewbE Sep 22nd, 2017 06:16 AM

Lots of people have either taken breaks or left over the years, some return, some don't, some are missed, some not. Announcing one's departure seems like a bid for drama that some here--like the OP, who is only stirring the pot--enjoy.

vincenzo32951 Sep 22nd, 2017 06:24 AM

>>Announcing one's departure seems like a bid for drama that some here<<

Amen.

>>Whathello is not a troll.<<

Maybe not. But I'm not sure what you call someone whose singular response is to berate an OP's grammatical errors(s) or who drags out tired anti-America-isms.

Oh, wait. I know the word. It's as... Never mind.

NewbE Sep 22nd, 2017 06:29 AM

His posts are a mix of useful information (especially about hotels and restaurants in Paris) given in an amusing style, and hostile rants. It seems as though his own anger drove him off the boards, as, again, in my observation, frequent flyers on the Europe board took him in stride. I'm sure he will be back.

bvh Sep 22nd, 2017 06:43 AM

Of course he'll be back. He's addicted and no other board will tolerate his behavior.

"like the OP, who is only stirring the pot"

I thought that threads directed at specific members were not allowed in the TOS. Some people are too selfish to care about the TOS. They do what they want for their own entertainment. Revealing and transparent.

MmePerdu Sep 22nd, 2017 07:37 AM

I left once in disgust, deleted my account and know no one noticed. I don't even remember what my name was. This seems to be something else. I, for one, can use the rest. Until next time.

suze Sep 22nd, 2017 07:44 AM

Since the exit announcement was made in Forums Help (a branch few people read) I thought the Europe board posters might be mildly interested in this. No "pot stirring" involved.

bvh Sep 22nd, 2017 08:10 AM

Of course denial. Nothing new here. Totally predictable. I don't recall a need to bring focus to all the other previous tantrums and exits, especially on the Europe board. No "pot stir?" Sure. I almost believe that. Total disrespect for the board.

MmePerdu Sep 22nd, 2017 08:16 AM

Has it been tweeted?

Belinda Sep 22nd, 2017 08:24 AM

He did say on at least one other thread that the post on the Help board would be his last.

I'm sure he is reading this thread with great interest and basking in the "love".

gomiki Sep 22nd, 2017 08:36 AM

(Hijack comment)

Belinda, you recommended a restaurant with truffles in Paris. I can't find the thread. Could you tell me the name? TIA

He can't stay away, his ego will not let him.

Belinda Sep 22nd, 2017 08:53 AM

Truffes Folie 7eme. Book on thefork.com and you can usually get up to a 50% discount.

I think they just opened a second one on rue de Berri in the 8eme.

Have the oeuf cocotte a la truffe noir.. ooh la la!

gomiki Sep 22nd, 2017 09:09 AM

Merci!
