Have the reasons changed since this was first asked?

caroline Jan 13th, 2002 08:05 AM

mimi taylor Jan 13th, 2002 08:27 AM

It's a nice form of give and take.
A bonus is that you learn things about places that you had not read about in a book.
mike Jan 13th, 2002 08:33 AM

As stated before,,, this forum is alive and kicking....people are on this forum, as they say, 24/7. It is also very entertaining at times when the threads strike a nerve on someone and the chain reaction begins.
mike
John G Jan 13th, 2002 08:43 AM

The reasons John G comes to this site:

1. I have incredible wanderlust that can never be satiated. I think in a former life I was a sailor who traveled the Seven Seas.

2. I spend most of my time on my computer doing research, answering and sending emails, etc. for my job. Coming here breaks up the monotony of my boring day.

3. Most of the people in my orbit don't like to talk about travel unless it relates to going on a cruise, or Cancun. My best friend always states that why can't I be like normal people and go to the Bahamas instead of the likes of Sri Lanka or Angouleme.

4. Tit for tat: If I help someone, in turn, they will help me. I fully believe in the turn of the Karma Wheel.

5. I really like to be polemic. And I love the un-politically correct posts on this forum. Since a child, I have always been fascinated by trolls.

6. I am psychotic.

Penny Jan 13th, 2002 09:11 AM

I first came because I had heard that people in my profession were totally misunderstood and therefore the object of vicioius attacks.

And then I found that while that was true, there were many more who were very knowledgeable about the "little things". While I am very good at getting clients where they need to go for the least amount of money, and I have a very extensive inhouse library of reference materials, none of that compares to the "shining descriptions" you folks are writting about here.

So, I joined in where I could, helped where I could and learned a lot.

I love to travel. Like to be helpful too when I can. And yes it is great to be among fellow addicts that know so much; I learn alot.

Kathleen Jan 13th, 2002 12:27 PM

Because talk of travel is the transport that takes me, momentarily, to where I'd rather be.

For me, I have to admit it's the free beer that comes pouring out of the spigot on my CPU whenever I enter this forum. :~) Thanks, Fodors!

I have gleemed much valuable information from this forum that has helped me in my trips to europe. I also enjoy passing along any of the great experiences or knowledge I have had in europe in the hopes that that another person will experience the same joy that I did.

Joe Jan 13th, 2002 06:15 PM

Mostly I read to gain additional information. On occaision, I am able to provide information to help someone. I really enjoy reminiscing about previous trips as I read other's experiences. It is interesting and entertaining.

A.M. Jan 13th, 2002 08:39 PM

Because my dream is to one day be considered a "regular" and earn my fodor's pin. Plus there's nothing good on tv.
A.M.

Because it is easy to use. Fodors has the best format forum. The others make my eyelashes tangled.

c Jan 14th, 2002 08:11 AM

Because, aside from the anonymous meanies, there are so many charming, helpful, smart, witty, and well traveled people on here that I want to be just like them~

L Jan 14th, 2002 09:58 AM

But how does one EXIT the thing? And where is MY free beer? Ciao

s.fowler Jan 14th, 2002 10:46 AM

I used to come here to chare, learn adn enjoy the virtual company of like minded travelers.

Now I share when I can, but mostly I log on here in the same spirit we slow down when we come upon an accident on the highway.
