First off I'd buy a farm in Marche or southern Toscana. Then id just stay there eating and drinking the produce from my farm.

Well, I'd have to go property shopping in Paris.. for my ultra-chic little artists flat. After I had that all worked out I would head across the Channel to England (Conwall to be exact) to buy that Victorian Fixer-Upper that I would restore to FULL Glory.. and run my little B and B (complete with pub downstairs and jazz club for my musician husband)!!!!! Anybody got a good tip for numbers?

Ninka Oct 22nd, 2001 04:56 PM

I don't have to dream about it. I am so lucky I am able to go anywhere I want and my first choice is always France anyway. I have no desire ever to travel to Australia or Asia.

Jen Oct 22nd, 2001 05:12 PM

I'd go to South Africa for an extended safari at all the top camps - Singita, Ngala...etc.

After that trip, I'd split my time between my new farmhouse in Provence, probably a little south of St. Remy in Maussane les Alpilles and my house on Balmoral Beach in Sydney, Australia.

Fodorites are welcome to visit!

i'd buy out a whole floor in a paris apt. building-preferably on ave. mozart in the 16th where i once stayed for a month. i'd let my personal secretary handle the flow of friends and family through my apts. i'd stay there myself from april through june. of course i'd have the frequent trips outside of paris to other countries, but, definitely paris will be my base. then, in july i'd come home to the u.s. and hop on my sailboat and cruise around the great lakes until october. then, i'd rest up at my home on the shore of southern lake michigan with an occasional jaunt around the country to see friends. after the holidays i'd head to miami where my cabin cruiser will be ready and waiting for a winter tour of the caribbean with some serious scuba planned. than start the whole thing all over again.
dream, dream, dream.... dream.

For that genuine millionaire experience, I'd head straight to Monaco and check myself into the hotel opposite the Casino (forget the name). Probably get a Jaguar and drive around Provence for a while, then head off to Prague, Germany, Amsterdam, back to France, on to Italy, Greece....
On the way home, I'd stop off at Mauritius and Lord Howe Island.

First, I'd buy a small vineyard with a beautiful 2 bedroom house (limits the visitors) in the Bordeaux region (somewhere around Bergerac); then, a two bedroom apartment in the 11eme and would never go near the 16eme except to buy off-priced clothes, though I would eat at all of the 3* restaurants at least once.

c'mon, bore, wouldn't you buy yerself one uh them there fancy trailers and take the family to Dollywood?

Diane Oct 23rd, 2001 07:24 AM

OK. First things First. I'd probably find the best plastic surgeon in the world and stake myself to about six weeks in a luxurious spa...wherever that is. A nip and tuck here and there, a good exercise and diet program, should put me in the best mental and physical condition to enjoy my new wealth. (And being a size 8 again would make shopping more fun!) Then I'd host a fabulous week-long family and friends reunion in Tuscany, at a beautiful, fully staffed villa. Next, I'd be off to Milan to shop for furniture for my New York townhouse (several blocks off Washington Square..or maybe a nice 3 bedroom flat uptown, overlooking Central Park West) We could spend half the year between NY and Europe, and then find a comfy get-away in Northern California on the coast. From there we could stage our trips to the Far East and South America.

I guess I'd really need to hit a BIG lottery. A couple million just wouldn't cut it for me....

douglas Oct 23rd, 2001 01:20 PM

anywhere but here right now!! It's wet, dark all the time and foggy, and has been for a week!!!!

anon Oct 23rd, 2001 02:05 PM

to Douglas
You MUST live in Scotland!! I'd even hazard a guess at Aberdeen!!! Am I right?

Linda Oct 23rd, 2001 02:21 PM

I would buy two homes--one in or around Interlaken and the other in either Dresden or Budapest. From those bases, I could have some wonderful long weekends and trips.

bob Oct 24th, 2001 09:31 AM

Just put my lottery on for tonights draw! If I win I would love to go to Barcelona and Berlin. Then I would really start my travels with a round the world trip!!!!

bore Oct 24th, 2001 12:40 PM

to Elvira
what is Dollywood?

Karen Oct 24th, 2001 12:40 PM

I have thought about this often, anon! I would rent a lovely large villa overlooking the sea in Capri, for two months anyway, and invite friends and family to come for visits of a week or so at a time. I would enjoy being there the whole time, of course, and really getting to be a part of this most beautiful place.

anonymous Oct 24th, 2001 12:50 PM

Karen
Capri? I have never thought of there before. What do you like about it?

Rex Oct 25th, 2001 09:46 AM

Austria for the beautiful mountain walks! Then somewhere nice and warm- possible Australia.

kavey Oct 25th, 2001 12:24 PM

Straight back to Namibia and Botswana for a much longer safari.
Followed by much globe trotting all around the world.
shell Oct 25th, 2001 03:48 PM

A holiday? Hmmm, that would be back to the USA after I moved to Europe :))

Karen Oct 25th, 2001 04:26 PM

I'd start with Peru and Thailand. Then Italy, Belgium, Paris and Spain. Then Costa Rica and Chile. Then Turkey and Austria. Then the Matterhorn. San Francisco, New Orleans, Key West. Oh, gosh, this could go on forever.
And...I'd hire someone to lose that last 10 pounds for me that seems to be hanging on for the last few years!!! That would be TRUE luxury!!

Isla Oct 26th, 2001 09:19 AM

My holiday home would be in Italy. I'd spend some time touring the States-to places such as New Orleans, San Fransisco, New York, Las Vegas!!!!While I was in these places I would find out where else would be worth seeing that was off the tourist trail.
