Vote for canonization May 1st, 2002 11:34 AM

I agree with Howard, because of your history it sounds like this would be very meaningful to you and you should try to see the canonization.

abc May 1st, 2002 12:18 PM

&lt;&lt;The first abc was Kavey and I think the rest were here friends trying to throw up a smokescreen.&gt;&gt;<BR><BR>Why wouldn't Kavey come forward and own up to this?<BR><BR>How many other names does Kavey use?<BR>

none of your business who I am May 1st, 2002 12:26 PM

First, what makes anyone so sure who the first abc is? Second, if someone is posting anonymously, which is legal and allowed here, why should that person then come out and identify him/herself, defeating the purpose of not using a recognizable name in the first place. Third, since you, current abc, are using the exact anonymous ID and address of the person who first used abd on this thread, ain't you the dirty ole pot calling the kettle black?

Yet another May 1st, 2002 12:45 PM

Let's just ask her and settle this once and for all.<BR><BR>Kavey, were you the first abc who posted this?<BR><BR>Author: abc ([email protected])<BR>Date: 04/30/2002, 11:20 am<BR>Message: Rex: FatGorjus<BR><BR>And if it really was you, so what? We forgive you for the silly post. It was just a joke, after all, anyone with a sense of humor can see that. I see no intent to be malicious here.<BR><BR>So, was that you, Kavey?<BR>

none of your business May 1st, 2002 01:48 PM

You've gotta be kidding, other regular. Why would anyone tell YOU that they posted as abc? Why do YOU care? And who are YOU to decide who gets forgiven unless you're the "victim" of the alleged offense? <BR><BR>Now get back to Babs question which is really interesting.

top May 1st, 2002 01:54 PM

for the Venice tourists!

kavey May 1st, 2002 02:05 PM

Yes it was me, not you. Now let it be.

Heather May 1st, 2002 03:08 PM

Babs, the canonization is an incredible opportunity to bring home something so meaningful from your childhood. If it isn't asking too much, can you post some thoughts on your experience when your return? I think it would be fascinating to read about.<BR><BR>Have a wonderful trip!

Rex May 1st, 2002 05:22 PM

Thanks for owning up, Kavey<BR><BR>I started to address you as FatKavey. I can't tell if it was actually you or not (you didn't say), but it appears that youy retracted and apologised.<BR><BR>And stinging you back would be more of what we need less of, here on this forum.<BR>

FatKavey owns up, and possibly retracts and apologises May 1st, 2002 05:38 PM

This thread dies. Thousands cheer.<BR><BR>Film at 11.<BR>

fed May 1st, 2002 06:05 PM

No way that post a few places above was from Kavey. Rex, you are too obvious. if you cannot be more original go back and change a diaper.

interesting May 1st, 2002 06:15 PM

Rex just posted spelling apologise as the British do, which is what made people think abc was Kavey in the first place. Interesting.<BR><BR>Rex, did your alter ego post the first flame to you to get back at John G then, when everyone thought it was Kavey you backed away and let it play out? Funny we didn't hear from you until immediately after the retraction. abc probably isn't Kavey or anyone British at all. She's a nice lady and look what's happened to her on this thread.

nuthouse keeper May 1st, 2002 06:22 PM

Sometimes we just need to remember WHAT the Rules of Life really are....<BR><BR>1. Never give yourself a haircut after three margaritas.<BR><BR>2. You need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it <BR>should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.<BR><BR>3. The five most essential words for a healthy, vital relationship are "I <BR>apologize" and "You are right."<BR><BR>4. Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.<BR><BR>5. When you make a mistake, make amends immediately. It's easier to eat crow <BR>while it's still warm.<BR><BR>6. The only really good advice that your mother ever gave you was:<BR>"Go! You might meet somebody!"<BR><BR>7. If he/she says that you are too good for him/her--believe them.<BR><BR>8. Learn to pick your battles; ask yourself, 'Will this matter one-year from now? How about one month? One week? One day? One hour?'<BR><BR>9. Never pass up an opportunity to pee.<BR><BR>10. If you woke up breathing, congratulations! You have another chance!<BR><BR>11. Living well really is the best revenge. Being miserable because of a bad or former relationship just might mean that the other person was right about you.<BR><BR>12. Work is good, but it's not that important.<BR><BR>13. And finally... be really nice to your friends and family. You never know <BR>when you're are going to need them to empty your bedpan<BR>

So sorry. The orderly assigned to keep watch over the computer in the psych. patients' rec room fell asleep on the job. The patients unfortunately exhibited bizarre writing and posting behavior while he was snoring away. It's a sickness, you know. One of them particularly liked posting as abc. It brought back fond memories of the days before his problem manifested itself when his gramps was teaching him the alphabet. Must discipline that orderly. And will speak to the doc tomorrow about changing some of our patients' medicines. Must run along now and make sure that our geriatric patients have some supervison on the internet too. Sorry again. Remember, they're ill.

Flo, RN, again May 1st, 2002 07:19 PM

Sorry, the gerries, er old people, er elserly, er seniors, were also playing on the internet. One little guy cliams he used to be a doc. Can't remember hius name, though, so he keeps claiming to be othr people--men, women, it doesn't matter. Please excuse them.

Voting for Venice. You can actually see a bishop at mass at San Marco quite frequently, for what that's worth.<BR>

Babs,<BR>If it is true your father wrote the letter, and you show no signs of polio, count on it as a miracle. You owe it to Padre Pio to be present for his cononization, stand up for him, as he did you, you are part of what makes him a saint!

Carol May 2nd, 2002 05:43 AM

On the other hand, she may just be blessed 9in a secular sense) with a robust immune system, and maybe she had an extremely mild case. But I think it would be appropriate and meaningful for her to go, too, in light of this story.

anonymous physician May 2nd, 2002 06:21 AM

This is not an attempt to throw cold water on the medical history offered by Babs.<BR><BR>No one under 50 remembers what a poliovirus infection was like. The fear of the unknown was as great as the paralysis that affected 3-4% of those children and young people who contracted polio. By epidemiology and serology studies it is known that 10-20% of cases had no symptoms at all, although mild fever might not always be recorded faithfully. The vast majority developed gastroenteritis, manifest primarily as diarrhea. Similar to any other viral gastrointestinal infection.<BR><BR>Fewer than 4% developed neuromuscular paralysis. Deaths occurred in about a quarter of those, both in "iron lung" children and those who were not adequately ventilated due to problems of transportation or scarcity of suitable expertise. A quarter were mild and transient, and about half had continuing paralysis, ranging from crutches and braces to wheelchairs to long-lasting respiratory weakness.<BR><BR>So, many, many children (millions) had polio; a small number of those had "infantile paralysis". And a substantial number of those had the kind of spontaneous recovery, described by Babs.<BR>
