LOL, great report Sharon! My kind of gals, I love the declared shopping days. they are very important, I make sure to have at least one in every city. Love the lessons also. Totally agree with #1 in Paris. Was there once end of January 20 degrees and raining, didn't care a bit. Thanks for posting.

Anna1013 Oct 1st, 2007 04:52 PM

Sharon,

Really, really enjoyed your trip report – I have to say that I love reading trip reports that involve groups of friends. I actually remember your last trip report – did you guys also go to Italy, or am I just confusing you with someone else?

Your report really brought back a lot of memories on our recent trip in May(both good and bad) – I totally agree with separate rooms toward the end of the trip. We were on a budget, but I think separate rooms are a necessity for everyone to come back alive :) Also agree about not giving up when looking for something, no matter how frustrated you get. Your Amy seems like my DS when it comes to directions – although I called her Jason Bourne for her scary spy-like inherent sense of direction…she never needed to look at a map for more than 3 seconds, and then take off while leaving us running to catch up to her…don’t you love travel!

I never realized you could order a hot citron presse – learn new things everyday on Fodors!

mcnyc Oct 1st, 2007 04:57 PM

LOL!!! What a delightful report, Sharon. I love it, and now, I must go back and reread your Le Clip story.

I wish I had the same knack for writing as you do.

SharonG Oct 1st, 2007 04:59 PM

Anna, you are right. We did Italy and Paris two years ago. We had to change planes on the way over to Rome in Amsterdam and that's what gave us the idea to go there. I think the three of us are planning to visit Prague and Vienna in 2009.

We are all good friends but it does help to be able to go back to your own little private room at the end of the day.

cheryllj Oct 1st, 2007 05:07 PM

Fabulous -- and hilarious -- report! I want to start my own Women with Money tour next year.

I have a friend who is just like your pal Amy -- she refuses to take a taxi and wants to walk 10 miles back to the hotel, no matter how swollen/sore our feet may be. Repeat after me: *we can afford it!*

Anna1013 Oct 1st, 2007 05:11 PM

Sharon - forgot to ask you in my last post - did Amy end up taking the train with you and Saundra in Versailles or did she walk instead? Seems like it got tense, and I wanted to know how it was after with all three of you.

We had a few tense moments on our last trip, and I always like to get input from others who travel with friends.

SharonG Oct 1st, 2007 05:16 PM

Anna, since Amy is 20 years younger, she walked most of the way but did meet up with us at the last stop and got on the train. We never stay mad long and we just teased her and she was fine. We really love Amy. It is nice because I'm good friends with Amy and her mom Saundra who is more my age. Sometimes I do things with just one of them and it all works out fine.

Anna1013 Oct 1st, 2007 06:10 PM

Thanks Sharon,

I have to go back and find your last trip report - I'm positive it was just as hilariously funny as this one was!

Betsy Oct 1st, 2007 06:44 PM

I am at home alone tonight and sitting here at my computer laughing out loud hysterically. You must be Elvira reincarnated, and that's a definite compliment.

I'm sending this thread to my sister who lives in Nashville, who has not been to Europe, and claims she has no interest in going. How on earth could she pass up experiences like these?

tomassocroccante Oct 1st, 2007 07:15 PM

<<after realizing we were too big to wear the clothes we hit the Food Hall where we knew we could find our size.>>

Well, that's just very, very funny.

Sharon, I'm quite sure it would be a kick to sit at the next table from y'all = I imagine the Belgians told their friends it was they who were entertained.

jent103 Oct 1st, 2007 07:26 PM

LOVED the "nothing would fit on our pinkies" comment. What a great trip report, Sharon!

Betsy Oct 1st, 2007 08:25 PM

This is my favorite part..."Saundra and I went across the street to Pescatore, an Italian restaurant that we would frequent for the remainder of the trip always arriving early enough to eat with the waitstaff, our new BFFs."

starrsville Oct 1st, 2007 08:44 PM

I didn't know you went back! Oh, I can't wait for all of this report! My favorite trip report writer!!!

jcrummel Oct 2nd, 2007 02:12 AM

Sharon, Thanks for a wonderful laugh! You write so beautifully. Please, Sharon or someone, take pity on me and help me find the Le Clip thread on the Trio's previous trip, to Italy and Paris. I have searched and searched and come up dry. Thanks for your help!

SharonG Oct 2nd, 2007 02:57 AM

I think if you click on my name you will find the original report about Le Clip. I wrote that one in 3 parts so it is a little confusing.

Thanks Starrs but this is the end of the report!

Betsy, to be compared to Elvira is the highest praise!!!

Saundra and I are planning the Women With Money Tour next Spring so stay tuned.

SuzieC Oct 2nd, 2007 03:19 AM

Thank you Sharon. Thank you. You do write beautifully.

I'll go find LeClip again...

your doppleganger is Audrey Hepburn?

SharonG Oct 2nd, 2007 03:37 AM

Well Suzie, maybe I stretched it a bit with Audrey. I like to think of myself as a young Elizabeth Taylor!

escargot Oct 2nd, 2007 05:33 AM

great report and thank you for the laughs and your wonderful sense of humor...i'm emailing it to my own daughter ......just some instances she will reltate to :)

julieah Oct 2nd, 2007 05:43 AM

SharonG: our upcoming trip to Amsterdam will never be the same.
Thank you! I laughed so hard, I cried.
We should be paying you to write this stuff, absoulutely wonderful.

tomassocroccante Oct 2nd, 2007 05:51 AM

When I read something like this I wonder why it is there aren't more movies made about the charm of travel and its inherent humor. Possibly the movie industry is not much interested in charm when it can keep so busy making stories filled with poo jokes or wholeslase slaughter. (The "travel" films of the past year or so have centered on partying students -is there any other kind today? - and the ease with which they fall into the hands of torturing sadist thrill-seekers. Special.)

Well, I still haven't seen Paris, je t'aime, so I better not complain too loudly. Still, and at the risk of being called a middle aged woman instead of a middle-aged man, some of my favorite movies are Summertime, Pane e Tulipani, Shirley Valentine. Also The Third Man, Our Man in Havana, Ronin, the Bourne films - my international spy/jewel thief mood.

Just saw L'auberge Espagnole, which should be required viewing for Fodorite Europe posters. Eight students from around Europe all share an apartment in Barcelona - occasionally it feels like the TN TRIO times 3. REcommended.

mcnyc Oct 2nd, 2007 06:33 AM

Ooo ooo! Where's the Women with Money Tour going next?

akm_tn Oct 2nd, 2007 06:35 AM

Hey all,

I am so glad you are enjoying the report of our trip...I will tell you that Sharon is just as amusing in person! We all love these trips and have a great time no matter what happens. Once you find the perfect fit in travel partners, there is no going back.

Amy

Someone asked for the link to our first trip..here is part 1. I hope it works. Also, I don't post that often so clicking on my name should get you there fairly easily.

cheryllj Oct 2nd, 2007 06:43 AM

Thanks, Amy. Ah, yes, how could I forget about poor Raynell and how devastated she was not to get butter with her bread. :)

Amy, you must have a pretty good sense of humor yourself if you don't mind being referred to as "La Diabla." Heh.

Royal Oct 2nd, 2007 07:25 AM

Sharon - hilarious. Loved every minute of it. Your descriptions are so vivid that I felt I was with the three of you.

Amy -thanks for posting the link to the first thread as it was every bit as good as the second.

Will look forward to your next trip posting.

GreenDragon Oct 2nd, 2007 07:34 AM

What a fun report! I could only dream of writing so well. Truly, thanks!

GreenDragon Oct 2nd, 2007 07:35 AM

Forgot to say - I recognize myself in Amy. It's not on the spreadsheet!! I do have a spreadsheet of lodging choices for our trip in June 2008 to Scotland... each column gives the rooms available (we have 7 travelers), the prices per person in USD, their location, website, and 'quaintness' factor :)

anotherjudy Oct 2nd, 2007 07:37 AM

Sharon,
Thank you for posting this! I am sitting in my office laughing out loud. Hope I'm not disturbing those poor sucker here who are actually working.
Judy

Sharon -- what a wonderful report! You've captured so much of my experience in Paris earlier in the year...and make me want to return! Great job (I think you should send it to one of the Travel magazines and see if they'll offer you a job).

SharonG Oct 2nd, 2007 10:10 AM

The Women With Money Tour is going back to Paris. But this time we are going to rest every other day and no forced marches!!!!!

dorie Oct 2nd, 2007 12:35 PM

Best report I have read, except for your first one! I do wish you would run a Women With Money Tour. How's that for an idea. Thanks for the enjoyment, just wish you would travel more often...

GreenDragon Oct 2nd, 2007 01:00 PM

Ah, but if Amy is along for the Women With Money Tour, will you be ALLOWED to rest every other day!

I've been Amy in the past, and am trying to mend my ways. Rather than schedule things every day, I have learned to plan things for myself - and if others wish to join, they may. If not, they can stay at home and rest (which, imho, I can do just as easily at home, why travel 3000 miles to REST???)

annhig Oct 2nd, 2007 01:06 PM

hi, sharon,

thanks so much for the report - i really enjoyed reading about your trials and tribulations.

your description of Versailles reminded me of when my DH was working in Paris one very cold spring about 25 years ago - we scheduled a trip to Versailles on one of the [then] only 4 sundays that they turned on the fountains - I've never been colder in my life and that includes -25C.

i liked the description of your breakfasts as well. Chocolat chaud and coke light make a stunning combination - are they consumed concurrently or consecutively? as with prion sentences, it really makes a difference!

:S-

regards, ann

SharonG Oct 2nd, 2007 01:12 PM

Amy is NOT going on the Women With Money Tour. She really is going to China for her job so her mother (Saundra) and I are going to Paris ourselves. We intend to enjoy ourselves, rest when we want, spend all day in museums instead of on endless purse quests and sit in every cafe we see. She's not the boss of us!!!!

FainaAgain Oct 2nd, 2007 01:43 PM

I am not done with reading day 1 yet, but need psychotherapy already :))

travelerjan Oct 2nd, 2007 01:52 PM

After laughing hysterically, I tried to post a query asking for a link to the 2005 trip report -- but somehow it didn't show up :(.

Thanks to SharonG's sister, I found the first part of it, the Rome segment -- but could not access the vital portion involving Le Clip!!

When u click on SG's name, she's been such a prolific contributor that 150 postings only takes one back to early 2006 -- and apparently Fodor's doesn't track more than that number.

Does anyone else have a link to the FIRST Paris trip by the TRio of Terror -- or some other way to access it?? My e-mail is [email protected]. I live in hope!

Oh, this is so enjoyable and hilarious! Bookmarking for a rainy day's re-reading :))

dcd Oct 2nd, 2007 03:54 PM

Sharon, I know these reports don't write themselves. Lots and lots of effort AND tons of time. Thanks for making me laugh. Another fantastic report!!

SharonG Oct 2nd, 2007 05:09 PM

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Amy spent the weekend with me and we re-created the trip from memory, our journals and the liberal applications of chocolate chip cookies. It was fun to relive the trip. Okay, some of it was fun, after all, I was "with the Amy".

amor Oct 2nd, 2007 06:19 PM

As soon as I saw TN Trio in the title I was already laughing, I just knew it was going to be great. Can Fodor's get SharonG lined up with an agent quick - after the Women With Money trip she will have enough material for an entire book.
