FOLKS!
Take a deep breath. It is only a message board. Just ignore the people you don't like. (Acutally I just laugh at M_Kingdom since I think she lives in her own personal Fantsyland!) If you take everything on here personally you are bound to get your feelings hurt. As for shoes, I just bought at pair of Dansko Professionals. They are UGLY, but really comfortable. I have had success with Ecco's too. |
Well pgmargate you get my vote for useless post of the day, but I am impressed with you spelling. At least I am getting my laughs.
To Amy and anyone else.... just ignore those of us you don't like, it will make your life easier. I am firmly convinced that those people who get off on putting down the shoe and fashion questions of others actually probably never go anywhere and have ELABORATE fantsy lives where they live in castles with prince charming. I find that imagining things like that makes it easier to ignore them. While I realize that some people get upset with these posts they are legitimate questions and you have every right to ask them. (Of course, that means everyone else has every right to respond.) Hang in there. |
You may notice that I can't spell!
|
Sorry, pgmargate, but from reading the post that you berated St. Cirq for, it looks to me like you were stating that Italian churches are the same as American churches in that attire is completely relaxed, which is certainly not the case. I saw a woman thrown out of Santa Croce in Florence for wearing a sleeveless blouse. And we all know that the fashion police stand at the steps of St. Peter's in Rome with a tape measure. Good evening.

Well, I was just going to let it pass, telling myself that there was no way Pgmargate's syntax would ever pass inspection ("different then?"), but thanks, ThinGorjus.

traveler 99:
I have re-read your OP. I have read this thread. You asked for more input so here is mine. NOT ONE shoe brand that has been suggested is CUTE...no way no how! Type in the name Born, Clark, SAS, Easy Spirit, ECCO, or Mephisto on your google or other search engine. The pictures that you see are real...these are the modern day orthopedic shoe for the well over the "heel" woman. Ugly shoes do nothing for your comfort your pride, sense of self, respect, travel experience or for your concern for what you look like and no...you will not fit in...no way, no how, period, dot, end of sentence. You will be as you stated: obvious and uncouth. Cute shoes can be and are comfortable. Get your foot properly measured at a boutique or nice department store. All desginers of cute or fashionable shoes cut them and sew them differently. Hence, you may take a differnt size than what you may usually wear. You also have to get a professional pedicure. Toe nails that are growing like weeds will make your feet uncomfortable. Heels of feet with enough elephant tusk will make a tighter fit on a cute/designer shoe. Wearing ugly or unattractive shoes does not mean you skip the pedicure. We can see the lack of maintenance which is unfortunately very "American Travel Woman" and reflects badly on you and your lack of hygeine(sp) habits. The no pedicure is usually pared with a woman who does not shave or maintain her under arms and the like. Traveler 99 YOU said that you wanted to dress fashionably. Those shoes above are NEVER nor will they EVER be seen in Vogue, Travel Nast, Bazarr, Elle and the other fashion magazines. Those shoes are not fashionable. These shoes do not go with anything even remotely fashionable. I recommend you wear what YOU want but if you want to be cute and fashionable as YOU posted you need to consider: Todds, Jimmy Choo, Timberland, Manolo, Ferragamo, Chanel,St. John, Bally, Keds, Talbots and so on. You may even visit your local high quality thrift or consignment shops for some fashionable shoes and clothes if your funds are tight. Now, I am not talking about the Salvation Army. I am talking about the thrift shops of note where the ladies and "It" girls donate and shop when they want to watch their pennies or just have some fun. Being a "It" girl is also considered a major travel no-no by many... Being well dressed is not a luxury nor is being well dressed the same as being a snob. That mentality is so elementary school girl and it is wrong. It works to alienate those women who travel who care from those women who travel and do not care. Good luck with what you want to accomplish. You will not settle your fashion and cute goals here. Again, it seems to be a Fodor poster sin to care, to coordinate, to wear stunning colors, nice fabrics, to accentuate your sensuality, personality and to have FUN while you pack. It is also a travel no-no to take time to shop and to enjoy the gift of making yourself look good for your travel... Unless you have the Jane Goodal and Margaret Mead get-ups while you travel then you are considered snobby, pretentious, and you are considered Fodor Travel dirt! If you speak of pinks, reds, whites, orange, yellows, pastels, prints and patterns then you are said to be something, a traveler, to be ignored. Considering using something more than a child size lunch box to pack your clothes for your travels...a horrible travel transgression! Speak only of black, brown, gray and kakhi...wear any of the above named walking shoe or else you are a travel woman moron...trying to put on, be something that you are not... Pack a minimum amout of undergarments, include the granny panties, old socks, out dated skorts, well worn t's and sleep in an even older t-shirt and then you are a serious travel woman! Do not bother with dresses, lovely skirts, after-five attire... if you are thinking about "dressing up" like this then you are too concerned about what people think and your whole travel qualifications are called into question...what must SHE be thinking??? All that looking down your noses at women who do not want to do laundry in a machine while on VACATION or in a sink is just as snobby, pretentious and ridiculous too. I always do my thing and if this post does anything...may it reinforce that you too must do your own travel fashion thing. Oaktown Traveler |
Jeeeez, this thread takes the cake for looney responses! Where are these coming from?
I think someone suggested a forum for "What to Wear"...that might not be a bad idea, since there is such a glut of HighFallutin Fashion Advisors posting these days ! I see that registration has failed miserably, the pgmargates and m_kingdoms, others who do little but boast about whatever they think is important. How in the world can any newbie come on these boards and get good advice these days? Amy..the best advice comes from those who have been posting here for years or at least one or two years. Try to weed through the poseurs and you will learn from the experiences of some great and helpful posters here~ |
hmmm...do you only see a one way "GLUT"?
"The advice is NOT good for newbies?" Those with one or two years of posting experience have the BEST advice? Looney Responses...I see...psst..get your mirror out... Shaking Head, Oaktown Traveler |
OT- According to your earliest posting, you " feel as if you have to really have something of significance to say about the travel question before you reply."?
Would that be What to wear with your Jimmy Choos? And that the " boards(Q&A's) are "intellectually elevated". so You simply sit, think and "listen" ... I like to imagine you sitting and just listening..... Grinning widely. Scarlett |
I agree, Miss Scarlett. I think it is time we booked the limo to Betty Ford for some of our darlings. ;)
Afterall, isn't it easy spirits that gets one involved with detox in the first place????? |
Oh John, thank you for making me smile today, I needed that!
Cheers, precious! ((D)) |
Me, too, Scarlett.
And I don't know about the rest of you. But my eyes, and brain glaze over With posts full of one-sentence paragraphs. Are there some synapses missing here? Or am I just squeezed into the wrong shoes? Or have I failed to include enough BRIGHT colors in my wardrobe? I just can't absorb this ad-copy info. I guess I'm TOTALLY missing the intellectual significance. |
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Learn to read complete sentences and not minds... In my post I did not stutter. Get a tutor. Enough bottom dwelling and dumpster diving for me. I am not "dressed" for it either...gosh darn! Please, carry on without me. Washing My Hands, Oaktown Traveler |
"Please carry on without her"
Is it really possible? Oh well, I guess we will try. Breathing intellectual sigh of relief~ Scarlett |
Whew!
That Was A Close One. |
=D>

Darling, Oakie, wear a pair of Jimmy Choo strappy stiletto heels on the cobblestone streets of Florence and you won't be washing your hands, but your feet.
Flats would be best for you. We wouldn't want you to fall into the Arno, would we?? We need you around here for target practice. I must be cruel only to be kind, Gertrude. (That's from Hamlet if you didn't know it already.) :) |
Scarlett,
Too cute! i've been wondering, how do you put the little icons in your posts? |
http://www.fodors.com/forums/smileys/
I have to be strong or I will get carried away with these little buggars! |
OK, so I'm dense-- I opened the link that has all the smileys, but I don't know how to make them show up in a post!
