Rec'd while gone to Paris. Envelope ripped almost in half, but pin intact.

Rex Jun 3rd, 2001 03:47 PM

I want to say thank you to all those who have the numerous supportive remarks; I do not seek to embarrass or discredit Fodor's. Those of us who have a pin to wear feel like belong to a club within a club now - - we're not superior to anyone, and I hopoe that we exhibit exemplary friendship to anyone who spots us wearing the Fodors pins and asks us what they were.

I wore my logo ribbon pins one day (all six of us did) and we got asked once - - but not by someone who recognized what they were.

I'll update the tally once more, tonight or whenever this falls "naturally" to the third page or further back.
Rhonda Jun 3rd, 2001 11:03 PM

Rex, "surprise, surprise, surprise". Pin arrived today in Sydney totally intact and AOK. Took from May 21 to 6 June to get here. Please change my position on tally list.

Thanks fodors.com

Rex Jun 4th, 2001 03:33 AM

6 June? you have Wednesday's mail today (Monday)? Wow, Australia is more time zones ahead than I realized!!

Sorry to poke fun, I'm sure you mean to say 4 June. Glad you got it. I'll have to re-tally later today, since I didn't do it last night.
elena Jun 4th, 2001 04:49 AM

Received intact pin with hole in envelope.

KD Jun 4th, 2001 12:14 PM

Never received anything so far.
Linda Jun 4th, 2001 12:35 PM

Rex, thank you for tallying this. Now, do you plan on doing anything with this info? Do you think Fodors will do anything with it? Sure hope so. I'd like to get a replacement for my lost pin, even if I have to pay for it. E-mailed Fordor's, but didn't get a reply.

Claye Jun 4th, 2001 03:46 PM

Rex,

Add me to the recieved empty envelope list.

Me Jun 4th, 2001 03:55 PM

Got mine this weekend in a USPS envelope. Both Fodors and USPS envelope badly damaged, but the pin survived.

lisa Jun 4th, 2001 04:04 PM

Put me down as having received my pin, in perfect condition.

Rex Jun 4th, 2001 07:28 PM

Have received a pin - - 94
Received an empty envelope - - 29
Have not received anything - - 22

Responses to this "tally" on the US (or any other) forum (other than Europe), since I posted this thread there: two.

As for "doing anything" with this info, I don't know. anyone who wants to cut and paste into a letter to [email protected] certainly has my permission. Since I am one of the people who received nothing, I am not sure what I would gain from asking again. I don't believe they are sitting on any big stockpile of 'em.
Lisa Jun 5th, 2001 07:01 AM

Thanks for tallying the pin count,Rex. I am interested in seeing how many got sent out etc. It got very confusing with all the different posts

mimi Jun 5th, 2001 07:14 AM

author Rex: I am new to this site. what is this pin everyone is complaining about? It's pupose, etc....thanks

Ray Jun 5th, 2001 09:21 AM

Rex
Fodors probably didn't send you a pin because they didn't want to do anything that would further associate you with this forum.

nonegitivecommentsplease Jun 5th, 2001 03:32 PM

Ray,
Couldn't you resist bashing Rex just this once?

Vicki Jun 6th, 2001 03:00 PM

Rex,
Hi it's Vicki from Idaho. I got an empty envelope full of holes and with the return address ripped off inside a postal envelope with an apology note on the back.:( What a bummer I really wanted that pin.

Tracy Jun 6th, 2001 03:15 PM

Hey Rex! Switch me from the "received nothing" to the "received envelope only" list. :-((

Thanks for doing this!

mary c Jun 6th, 2001 03:15 PM

Rex, I ordered mine 1st wk of March - rcvd. nothing. Sent check, too! :)

Florence Jun 6th, 2001 11:21 PM

Geneva, Switzerland, here. Pin received in good order yesterday. I'm on the lookout for Fodors pins in the streets.

Robbie Jun 7th, 2001 06:17 PM

Dear Rex

My pin was in the mail when I got home from Germany. The envelope had a small hole in it, but not big enough to lose my pin.

Rex Jun 9th, 2001 03:29 AM

I think that this might be my final tally (though you never know, perhaps this will spark a whole new round of respondents).

Have received a pin - - 96
Received an empty envelope - - 31
Have not received anything - - 21

Although a few well-known regulars (and "less regular" visitors) are conspicuous by their absence in any thread about these infamous pins - - BH, AS, CT, just to mention a few - - I conclude that the responses received so far are almost surely 50% or more of all those who ordered a pin (why would someone order one, and be so unwilling to comment on what they received? - - even if it was nothing).

The traffic on this board is pretty vigorous - - the signs of any dwindling off are not evident to me - - but, as a "community", it appears to me that "we" are a smaller group than my daughter's high school class.

Either that, or the "class participation" is a lot lower than I realize.
Jim Jun 9th, 2001 06:25 AM

Received my pin in envelope with hole in it. Ordered it the first day.

Diane Jun 10th, 2001 02:39 PM

oops! Take be off the not received list. Turns out my son opened it when we were in Italy. He set it aside for me and forgot about it. I found it when I cleaned the bakers' rack in our kitchen today!

Beth Anderson Jun 12th, 2001 10:29 AM

rec'd pin a few weeks back.

pin had made a small hole, but I got it nonetheless/

now, where did I PUT it...

Rex Jun 12th, 2001 05:15 PM

topping... for Deepa...
Ima Srprized Jun 12th, 2001 05:22 PM

You sound like logo wearers that you put down.

Anna Jun 12th, 2001 06:12 PM

I received my pin while I was on my trip to Turkey and Greece. The envelope had a hole in it, but the pin was still in it. I like the pin and think it was a very nice gesture of Fodor's to give them away.

Dr. Betty Jun 12th, 2001 06:49 PM

Cripes Rex, topping for Deepa? What do we have to do around here to get a pin, have deepa thoughts? I'll have to get to the bottom of this.
Yours in all things deep (but not deep enough),
Dr. Betty

mary Jun 12th, 2001 06:50 PM

Get a life! It's a pin, for chrissakes.

Mariarosa Jun 20th, 2001 12:29 PM

I am SOOOO excited! I just got my pin in the mail today! It was mailed yesterday (maybe I hadn't received it because they had to order more?). It arrived in perfect condition.

I will be in Puerto Rico and the BVI's in September and then Italy or France in February, so hopfully I will spot other Fodorites!

dave Jun 20th, 2001 12:52 PM

Where are you writing from Maria?? This might give hope to the rest of us!!!!

xxx Jun 20th, 2001 03:10 PM

Hey, the pin lives! Now if mine would just show up...ordered the very first day.

AC Jun 20th, 2001 03:42 PM

REX:
What's the tally now?
AC=none
AC's Mom=got it
ordered together

Daphne Jun 20th, 2001 04:42 PM

Got home from a month in Paris to find envelope with a hole in it [within a clear Post Office apology bag] and no pin. I don't need it now because I'll be staying home until next year, but thank you anyway, Fodors--it's the thought that counts! {Didn't see any over there but my eyesight isn't all that sharp.

Mariarosa Jun 20th, 2001 05:30 PM

The pin does live on! Dave, I live in NYC, about 30-40 blocks away from Fodors. I also ordered it the first day. The envelope that it came in was a padded envelope (were the original envelopes padded too?). If you haven't received your pin there's still hope!

Rex Jun 20th, 2001 07:21 PM

Wow - - the count might really go up!!??

They're going to prove me wrong! Maybe there were a lot more requests than 150... and more manufactured? and padded envelopes? stay tuned!!

Maybe they will even send one to me!!
topper Jun 21st, 2001 03:43 AM

padded envelopes? send this back to the top. who else has received a padded envelope?
Gerry K Jun 21st, 2001 05:22 AM

I was one of those "empty envelope" folks until this morning when I received a Fodor's pin in a padded envelope. Thanks, Fodor's. It will serve as a good excuse to begin planning a trip. Not that I need an excuse. (By the way, I got three Fodor's travel books for Father's Day. They must have known I was a good customer.)

Cheers,

Gerry K

dave Jun 21st, 2001 05:53 AM

Does this give everyone that received an empty envelope that we may get a padded envelope with a pin in it!!??

Gerry, where are you writing from? Maybe we will all be receiving pins afterall!

Gerry K Jun 21st, 2001 07:08 AM

Dave, the pin was received in upstate
New York.

Cheers,

GK
