If you take a photo and store it on your phone, it should work even when you don’t have a signal or Wi-fi connection. I thought I could store it in Apple Wallet on my iPhone, but tried it and couldn’t get it to work. Carrying your paper document as backup is a good idea though.

Well Americans only have a paper CDC card.

So they can't store in the mobile wallet. You can take a photo of the card with your phone but I saw that they won't accept photos, you have to have the actual card.

However, the EU says it's up to EU member states whether they want to issue their digital certificates to non-EU visitors. That is, the same app they would use for their citizens to show vaccination status, negative test results or proof of recovery could be used to enter vaccination documentation for non-EU visitors, just to facilitate travel within EU countries.

Again it's optional. Of course EU countries will prioritize getting their citizens on those apps before they consider getting foreigners on them.

How are you taking the COVID-19 test to get back into the US?

Supposedly Antigen tests are accepted. So you can find one there, usually have results in less than an hour.

Or get the Abbot Binax Now test kit with eMed. Basically, it's a home kit with 6 tests for $150. Reason it's so expensive is that you do a video chat with an expert who supervises you in collecting the sample.

BTW, it's absurd they are having vaccinated Americans produce test results on returning to the US.

Scrb11, I edited my post before I saw your reply. The NHS issues a credit sized card, but that doesn’t work with Apple Wallet either. The NHS has an app that stores your vaccination record, and hopefully the US will come up with something similar that will conform with EU requirements.

We are going to figure that out when we get to Paris.

US is not doing an app.

There are some private companies doing an app but it's not clear those will be accepted.

The apps may be accepted by airlines as a way to speed through the check in process.

But what the airlines will accept and what the immigration personnel will accept are likely to be different.

You can get antigen tests at some pharmacies.

This link shows you the screening locations in Paris.

My daughter lives in France. That is why we are going there in August: to see her, our son-in-law, and our grandchildren whom we haven't seen in 2 years. Our daughter told us there is a lab in the town they live in that does COVID tests, and it is easy to get appointments. We might have to pay for it, but it won't be as expensive as in the US.

To return to the US, you only need an antigen test which is the rapid test and costs very little both in the US and in France ($50 or so) and can be done by a pharmacy with results in 30 mins or so. You do need to check that they provide a test result certificate in English.

This link tells you where you can take a test, you can choose pharmacy or test centre and what type of test and who can get the test done (ie not just locals.)

Do you think there are hotels in Athens or Santorini offering COVID-19 tests?
Thin,aristocrat 🦌

cafegoddess Jun 7th, 2021 01:32 AM

In Athens, I was told there is a testing sight at the airport, i think it is 60 euro. In Santorini, they have it in Oia and Fira, 90 euro. If you want the doctor to come to your hotel, it will be 120 euro. We are trying to figure exactly what we will need to do when we travel to Lyon from Athens.

balthy Jun 7th, 2021 02:14 AM

Athens Medical Group do PCR testing only at Athens airport. which is EUR60.

You can get tested at these clinics in Athens. The cost is about EUR20 for antigen (which is all that is needed for the US)

https://athensmedicalgroup.com/

https://bioiatriki.gr/covid-19-en.php

PCR test is required to enter France from Greece. Sworn health declaration is needed which you complete

This is a really good website for checking requirements although I also double check directly on government websites.

Balthy,
My daughter who lives in France isn't sure we can get the test results certificate in English. Do you know if it is possible? Are you saying US Immigrations won't allow US citizens in if the certificate is in French? Do all foreign countries offer test results certificates in different languages? For instance, someone going from Greece to France such as cafegoddess would need her results in French. This seems rather complicated to me and that most labs, etc wouldn't be equipped to supply certificates in different languages. That's only a guess on my part.

The test result from Greece is in English. I stopped at the covid testing center on my way to Rhodes and they told me it will be in English. The way I understood it, test results will be in English regardless of the country. I will keep checking just to make sure.

Thank you for your helpful response. I hope you are right. When do you leave for France?

cafegoddess Jun 8th, 2021 07:20 AM

You are welcome. In 8 days. I will have a definite answer by then, hopefully.
