So. Calif Foderite GTG?

What happened to the GTG. Is it still going? Is it still at Downtown Disney? Inquiring minds want to know.

RzzzA Oct 25th, 2002 03:36 PM

excuse my ignorance, but what is GTG? I'm from SoCal as well and i'm not familiar with that...

this inquiring mind wants to know...

xxx.xxx Oct 25th, 2002 03:42 PM

It is a get to gether. There was one being planed in the summer but I think it was shelved, but we should all be here for the winter. I will look for the old thread.

Art Oct 25th, 2002 03:44 PM

RzzzA - GTG means Get ToGether. There have been some in various parts of the country. I hosted a couple of them at my house some time ago. I will e-mail the person who started talking about it a few months ago.
xxx.xxx Oct 25th, 2002 03:46 PM

Thanks, Al, I cant find it on search.

jjg Oct 26th, 2002 08:40 AM

So what's a So Calif?

not Oct 26th, 2002 08:54 AM

So. Cal and So. Calif translates to Southern California

Diane Oct 26th, 2002 10:16 AM

Art: I see they're still calling you Al. I smile each time it happens. Diane

topper Oct 27th, 2002 07:16 AM

to the top for GTG info.

Sandi B. Oct 29th, 2002 10:25 AM

Hey what is the dealio, I want to go meet fellow fodorites, even though I am new around these parts.

Mina Oct 29th, 2002 10:27 AM

I've never attended one of these, and would like to. My November already looks crappy with business trips though. What about early December? I can help plan if anyone is interested, but I believe someone else started this awhile back?

Nancy Oct 29th, 2002 11:04 AM

Yes, in the summer, Art and a few others were writing about getting together at a restaurant in Downtown Disney which would be convenient for those from LA and Orange counties, and maybe San Diego county too.
I think it was postponed to the Fall, so, Art do you want to help plan it again?

Nancy Oct 29th, 2002 11:05 AM

PS: After reading your great threads it would be nice to meet you, Mina.

Fodor, not Foder Oct 29th, 2002 06:35 PM

Where is downtown Disney? Inquiring minds still want to know?

I think it is Fodor, not Foder.

Art Oct 29th, 2002 07:47 PM

For anyone interested you can e-mail me at the above address.

Sue Oct 29th, 2002 07:51 PM

I've never been to one either and would love to go to one!

Mina, In what area do you live? After reading your posts, I'd love to meet you too! I'm in Palm Desert, but on a week end could drive in for a get together.

Sue

Mina Oct 29th, 2002 09:23 PM

I would also finally like to meet many of the people here who have such a passion for travel.

Sue, I live in the South Bay area. Disney would be a bit of a drive, but everything in So Cal is spread out, it's not a big deal. I think it would be fun. (I've never met a bunch of people "from the Internet".)

I will e-mail Art.

xxx Oct 30th, 2002 08:15 AM

Downtown Disney is in Anaheim. I think it would be a good central location for getting together. The South Bay is remote for most of us and difficult to get to. I hate driving in and out of there. Palm Desert is a long ways out there, but Orange County is easier to get to than LA County. Orange County also works best for those of us coming from San Diego. Any dates set yet?

Sharon Oct 30th, 2002 09:41 AM

Who is in charge of this shindig? We need a leader. Last summer there was a woman who was doing all the footwork, but I cant find the thread.
Art, are you our front man?

g Oct 30th, 2002 10:11 AM

Since Art was nice enough to take it on a few times and even opened his home, maybe it's time someone else steps up. I'd do it, but there's a good chance I'm going to be transferred from So Cal next month.

Mina Oct 30th, 2002 10:44 AM

Like I said, I'd be happy to help, but I've never been to one of these before, so don't know how they work. Is it just picking a restaurant and going from there? That doesn't seem so difficult...

Art Oct 30th, 2002 11:21 AM

The first two GTG's were potlucks at my home. The third one was a BBQ where everyone brought something to cook. It was not as successful as the first two. The advantage of a potluck at someone’s home is that it gives everyone much greater opportunity to meet and talk with everyone. Last summer I was unable to host another one but could now if that is the consensus. My only problem is seating for everyone if a large number come. The first and second ones had about 18 people so I rented chairs and a fold up table. I have received two e-mails so far, so if you are interested please e-mail me. Also please give your preferences as to dates. The other option is, of course, to meet at a restaurant. Disneyland seems to be of interest to several people. I live in Long Beach, close to the 710, 605 and 405 freeways.

Sharon Oct 30th, 2002 11:27 AM

I live in Orange County, so Downtown Disney is fine with me. I think it is centrally located for all the counties. I know they have alot of restaurants there, where we could grab a few tables and talk. Parking there is good too, with validations.

inquiring minds Oct 30th, 2002 02:29 PM

Well Al or Art, do you know who came to YOUR potlucks; their name or anything about them? That is do you know the name of everyone; not just Elvira and Patrick.

xxx Oct 30th, 2002 02:35 PM

Inquiring Minds - You're plain rude! I hope you have no intention of attending the get together. I think it's wonderful that Art is so generous with the use of his home.

Art Oct 30th, 2002 02:47 PM

Yes, I have the names of everyone who came to each potluck but will not publish them here due to all of the infantile jerks like inquiring minds, nor would I without their permission. Both people named mentioned in posts that they were here.

Sharon L. Oct 30th, 2002 02:54 PM

What did I miss here? Was something deleted? What are you all talking about? It is just a get together, not a summit meeting.

AzzzR Oct 30th, 2002 03:27 PM

From inquiring minds-----We do not live in California or anywhere close---You can all relax, inquiring minds won't be there.

Sue Oct 30th, 2002 08:06 PM

Art,

I think it's very nice of you to offer your home again. That situation would make it much easier (in my opinion) to have a chance to talk to more people. In a restaurant situation, you mostly get to know the ones you are sitting near.

I would go to Orange County or to Art's home whichever is decided upon. But I vote for Art's.

Sue

xxxxxx Oct 30th, 2002 09:11 PM

Yes, it is nice for Art to offer his home, but don't you think Orange County is more accessible to those living south of Los Angeles? Why don't we just pick a restaurant and a day and isn't that all that needs to be done? We will appoint someone, like Mina or Art, to make reservations. But how would they know how many were coming? By all takers emailing one of them?

Art Nov 1st, 2002 04:10 PM

Have received a few e-mails. Any more of you in So Cal want a GTG?
Rita Nov 4th, 2002 10:17 AM

What is the matter with all of you So. Californians? Don't you want to meet up, or are you all at the beach surfing?

Hello Nov 4th, 2002 10:31 AM

Rita, Have you met some of those Southern Californians? Then you will have your answer.

Mina Nov 4th, 2002 10:47 AM

Hey hey now...easy.....

I am waiting for Art to email back a "yay" or "nay" since he's asked people to email him if they're interested. I have no idea who or how many have responded.

If it ends on being a go, Art knows that I am happy to help organize.

And to add fuel to the fire for all of you making fun of Southern Californians, I will say that I vote for breakfast, so that both company and food can be a combination of nuts, flakes, and fruit. Of course, there will always be a few hams.

Just kidding.

Do you know Nov 4th, 2002 12:21 PM

Great sense of humor, Mina. Not all So Cal folks are so blessed.

Rita Nov 4th, 2002 12:28 PM

No, I don't know any real So. Californians. I have always wanted to be one myself, though, I can probably learn to surf. Maybe I will come to the party and meet you all, or am I just "California Deamin'".

You, too Nov 4th, 2002 12:32 PM

Rita, you are another one with a good sense of humor. So Cal needs more of those.

Lynn Nov 4th, 2002 03:06 PM

Would love to participate if I'm not traveling (I travel for business). I'm from Laguna Beach, so Downtown Disney would be great. I'm gone from December 8 through 17th.
