I hate the idea of having a monitor. I have seen this done on other sites and it is annoying. Fodors is a better place because it doesn't have monitors. Please forget that idea.

Gees, what's with all the drama today?? I like the board the way it is and yes, there are occasional trolls and they are the ones who should be banned.

I like this board because I can get travel advice, read great trip reviews and the occasional thread that leaves me with a tears in my eyes from laughing so hard.

For all we know, we can get a board nazi who will, at their discretion, delete threads or ban members if they don't like what they read.

Leave the board the way it is. When I can't travel, I live vicariously through those that do. It will be a shame if this board changes for the worst.

IF they choose a monitor - will we know who s/he is?

It's pretty clear that the majority of responders (me included) think the board is fine as it is. But to be fair, PK posed the question without giving us enough information.

What, exactly, would a monitor do? How does that differ from a moderator? And what are the administrative powers this person would be invested with?

Peter, how can you expect well thought-out answers giving us so little information to work with.

I was born to be a Fodor's monitor.
I have never made anything I would call a mistake.
If you disagree with me, you are obviously insane and must be banished.

There is no question about it.
I love Big Brother.

How about making everyone on the board a monitor. Give us some appropriate symbols like Budman's mug to attach to threads that we thing are Trolls, Not about travel, stupid, wrong, mean spirited, or any number of other things. When enough of them pop up it could ring the editors bell and they would know to have a look and make the call.

Is there a way for me to post my troll instead of the above url?

I'm sure there are thousands of congressional staffers waiting in line to volunteer.

This question was asked days ago and answered by many interested posters, but I don't believe the powers that be have checked back, or at least have not posted in reply.

elaine Nov 12th, 2005 04:00 PM

No suze, there are no replies, only trollish questions and kafkaesque bannings. Shows a glaring lack of courtesy and collegiality, to me.

crefloors Nov 12th, 2005 04:57 PM

I was thinking that myself yesterday. He's done a lot of that lately.

cigalechanta Nov 12th, 2005 05:00 PM

Maybe they are reading all our emails. That would take time :) some of us have sent many. I ask that all be disbanned and start over, no hard feelings.

suze Nov 13th, 2005 08:29 AM

I think it's awful sad and does not speak well, when Fodor's staff with "power" don't follow the basics of polite posting guidelines... do check back on threads you start to thank all the posters for their time and thoughtful replies, don't start threads just to make trouble, etc.
